  1. Greetings! We are Sam and Mari, also known as “SamMari.” We are a semi-retired couple who have experience (and good references!) housesitting in the US and Mexico. Available from Nov. 1 2018 to March 31 2019 for a housesit in the Lake Chapala area. We are presently housesitting in Ajijic. If interested, message me. How to private message: Hover over my photo on the left and a pop-up will appear. Click on Message in the bottom left corner.
  2. Hi everyone, Does anyone need house-sitting from Sept. 28, 2018 to the end of the year (possibly longer)? If so, please consider our services. We are available for medium- to long-term housesitting (3 weeks to 3 months). We love this community. We are two mature professionals who house-sit and pet-sit full-time. We love house-sitting as we carry on our online careers (we aren't yet retired). I'm Charles Doersch (60), a professor with the University of Colorado teaching online courses, and my partner is Sean McCollum (55), a professional education writer for children (more than 45 books published) with ongoing contracts with major US publishers. Since 2013, we have racked up experience with more than 25 sits in Mexico, England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Italy, Turkey, Panama, the Dominican Republic, the US Virgin Islands, and the United States. Our Mexico experience includes sits in Jalisco, Michoacán, Sinaloa, and Guanajuato. Our Spanish is quite serviceable and getting better. 🙂 We have comprehensive experience with caring for pets and livestock -- they come to rely on us and trust us very quickly. You can check out our credentials (with references) at HouseSitMexico.com, TrustedHousesitters.com, and HouseCarers.com. We do not charge for house-sitting. It is our privilege and pleasure to take care of lovely homes and estates, and beloved companion animals. **However, please don't hesitate to contact us directly if you're at all interested in knowing more about us and our availability. BEST is contacting us by e-mail Charles.Doersch@gmail.com. Hope we can be of service.

  6. Hello all. My wife and I will be moving to Lakeside soon, coming from Panama, where we’ve been living for 2 ½ years. We saw a lot more short-term house rentals a month ago than we do now, and today is only the beginning of April, so we’re kind of surprised. We thought there would be more rentals. Is this normal for the summer house-rental market Lakeside? My plan is to come alone after Semana Santa for a week, ahead of my wife and old cat, to find a rental house. I plan to drive around with a few realtors to see their listings, to drive myself around looking for Rent signs, and to look for Rent posts on bulletin boards. I read that LCS, El Torito Market, and Superlake are good for bulletin boards. We’d rather rent directly from a landlord, like we hve in two places here in Panama.. Questions: Would one week be enough time to find a rental house for May that has what we want? Would it be better to come before Semana Santa? Would it be better to come for longer than a week? Does what we want even exist? Any other advice for finding our ideal place? I hope it isn’t too self-serving for this forum, but we’re looking for a short-term rental house initially, not in the village, but close enough to walk or bike until we get a car, with all these: Furnished 2 or 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms Detached At least 1400 sq ft Lake view Filtered water Fireplace Big TV Dishwasher Bathtub Measurably fast internet, with WiFi Good security, like with bars on windows Quiet, like with no barkers next door Private, like not easily visible inside by neighbors Big yard, instead of a small walled garden Up to $1000/month Is it possible? Any advice to find this place? We’d also be willing to housesit and do small repairs on the house until October, or maintain a house for sale and do small repairs until it sells. If it was in the hills, we’d rent a car until we get our own. Thanks everyone.

  8. My partner (Kai) and I (Sheila) have been providing free*, full-time, house and pet sitting services in the Lake Chapala area for over 3 years. We are homeowners ourselves and we have much experience caring for homes and pets. We have many local references. We have an opening from June 14th through the end of August and are currently considering sits of 4 weeks in length or longer. We sometimes consider shorter assignments if it fits in to our schedule &/or fills a gap between assignments, so it doesn't hurt to check in with us if you have a need for a sitter, even if it is for less than a month. Our website details our experience and shares more about us = http://www.housesittingbycycle.com/. We are also members of HouseCarers, a professional house sitting association. If you're looking for exceptional & professional house & pet sitters from June 14th through the end of August, please contact us with your details (dates needed, number of pets and/or no pets, responsibilities, special needs, etc.) and we'll get back to you A.S.A.P.. Thank you! ~Sheila & Kai [*We offer our services for free because we feel it is a mutually beneficial exchange. We adore animals and sitting allows us to travel, live and work in beautiful places around the world. We earn our income through other means (rental property & remote online freelance work). We provide care and security for your home and/or pet(s) while you provide us a place to live and work remotely via the internet. We feel this is a win-win situation for everyone involved.]
  9. Good morning all! I wanted to take a quick moment to introduce myself and offer my free services as a housesitter. I’m one half of a bilingual Mexican-Canadian couple. We live in Guadalajara, but we are looking to relocate lakeside in the near future. The big city is getting to be a bit too chaotic and we’d like less traffic and more hiking trails! Housesitting is the perfect way for us to get to know different areas of Jalisco before committing to purchasing our own home. During the holidays, we are normally found housesitting a large beach home in the bay of Chamela, but this year our scheduled housesit is undergoing major construction after being hit hard by Hurricane Patricia. As locals, we have managed situations ranging from escaped horses, flash flooding, power outages, snake and scorpion bites, and everything in between. We are also accustomed to dealing with everyday Mexican bureaucracy at CFE, Megacable, Zeta Gas, etc. Finally, we have a 4x4 off-road capable vehicle (we are “xtrailers”) and we’re not afraid off large or remote properties and the upkeep that they require. Each of us runs a telecommuting business and we work from home during the day. We also have a loving, well-behaved rescue dog that travels with us. He is well trained and personable, but he has also proven to be an effective "guard" dog in the past and alerted us when someone was trying to break in. If anyone is looking for short term or long term assistance, please let me know. We are happy to drive out to the lake (or elsewhere) to meet in person! And if anyone has any questions on matters pertaining to Guadalajara, please consider me a willing resource. Saludos! - Jo
  10. Thinking of going away but need someone reliable and kind for your pet or plants? I've housesat in three locations in Ajijic in the last year. I am a PhD student in Geography and a writer, studying at the University of Victoria. I'll be looking for a place this August (2015), for a month over December 2015/January 2016 (the holidays) and next summer (May - August) of 2016. I have excellent references. I am quiet, responsible, non-smoker and I speak Spanish. Please contact me through www.maleeaacker.com or maleeaacker@gmail.com. Thank you.
  11. Good Morning, My partner, Kai, & I have posted on this forum before about our free house and pet sitting services but I've recently created a website to share more about ourselves and our experience : www.housesittingbycycle.com. We currently have some openings available from November through January. A bit about us: We've been living in Ajijic for a little over a year now, having stopped here while on our around the world cycling journey to write a book about a sustainability project we completed back home (VT, USA) before we started our tour. We've been house and pet sitting in Ajijic/Chapala for over six months and we have references you can contact to verify our character and quality of work. Kai & I have years of combined experience as professional property manager, veterinary assistant, pet owners, and home owners/builders. Since we work from home all day, we're able to be attentive to pets' needs as well as to provide a live-in presence in the home while you're away. You can find out more about us by visiting our site. Feel free to contact us via our website or a PM if you have any house or pet sitting needs. Thanks so much! Sheila
  12. **UPDATE** 7/24/13 We have an opening between ~Aug 25th through ~Sept 25th for house or pet-sitting. Please contact us if you would like to meet us or talk about your sitting needs. Thank you! **UPDATE** 5/26/13 We had accepted assignments through the end of August but due to a homeowner's change in plans, we are now AVAILABLE FOR JULY AND AUGUST. Please contact us if you would like to meet us or talk via phone about your sitting needs. Thank you! ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** Posted 4/17/13 Extremely Responsible, Trustworthy, Cat-Loving Couple available for Free Housesitting in Ajijic/Chapala Area My husband and I are in our 40's, from USA, and while fulfilling a long-time dream of bicycling around the world, we found our way to Lake Chapala. We’ve stopped here to take a break from the road, to write an eBook and to do some volunteer work. We’ve been enjoying living/renting in Ajijic and Chapala since September so we know the area well. During our stay here we’ve rescued two cats and found them forever homes (you may remember our postings on this forum about the cats). Currently, we’re very happily house-sitting and caring for two cats (one of the cats we rescued) while the owners are away. We live full-time and rent-free in their home and have access to a quiet, private place to write our book while providing an almost-constant presence in the home - both good for their cats and for their peace of mind. We clean the home regularly (obsessively, really – it’s our nature), greet the gardener weekly and provide our own food/drinks. We are low-energy users and work mostly outdoors, on the patio, during the day. It seems to be a win-win for everyone involved. If you have a need for a similar arrangement over the coming weeks or months, please feel free to contact us. We are available after the 25th of April till whenever 1st of July through the end of August. We will be in this area until we finish our book, which could take up to another few months or more. More About Us I (Sheila) am a former IT technician/network administrator, currently a website designer, writer, photographer and artist and my partner (Kai) is a former airline pilot, currently a writer and a photographer. We have primarily worked in the non-profit sector for most of our careers. As we travel we offer our experience & skills to non-profit organizations or indigenous communities in exchange for learning about other cultures and building valuable new skill sets. We have met and become friends with many others in Ajijic and Chapala and can provide a list of references from both full-time residents/ex-pats and landlords, if necessary. We can also provide current and past house-sitting references. We own and manage our own duplex back in Vermont and do all of our own work so we understand and are extremely respectful of the concerns and needs of homeowners. We're sociable folks and love getting to know new people but we're not in to partying. We’re non-smokers. Sheila loves gardens and is willing to water and care for plants. We’re flexible on dates if given enough notice. We'd be happy to answer any other questions and/or would be willing to meet you to see if we'd be a good fit for your house-sitting needs. Please PM me to exchange information and to set up a time to talk with us, if you're interested.
