  1. The School for Special Children is hoping to reach all who have supported the children this year. Dear Volunteers, Donors, and Supporters, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for all your hard work and support over this past year. We have had our biggest year in fundraising in 2017 and we’ve been able to buy things for the school such as IPads for the faculty, which has been so useful with all the wonderful apps that are used for teaching. We are also in the process of buying a new jungle gym for the backyard at the school which will give the children hours of fun climbing and sliding. Whether you attend or are more directly involved in our house tours, the fashion show, the Chili Cook Off or helping at Casi Nuevo, we are truly grateful for the time and support you have given us over this past year. So again, thank you and I hope you have a wonderful holiday and a happy and healthy New Year. All the best Jan Riley President

  5. Rotary Club of Ajijic will be holding it's 3rd annual Art Auction this Saturday Feb. 11th at the HOTEL TAPATIO in Tlaquepaque. We are asking the local artist community for donations of their various works of art for our auction. The proceeds from this event will support our local projects such as OPERATION SMILE & LOVE IN ACTION etc. In exchange you'd be a VIP guest at our event. It's a great way to get your work shown and gain local notoriety. I would also extend a free office visit whenever needed for the next year at CHAPALA MED. 7. A big happening in San Juan Cosala. One person's dream ... Nancy Brown... helped by a terrific team of expats and lots of SJC residents is about to open tomorrow. Nancy has wanted to help the disadvantaged in San Juan Cosala and is going to do it through a token store. She has collected many items that the families need by asking her Austin Tx community and her friends here to help her get it started. You can read about what's going on by going to the link provided. There are a lot of photos showing how the practice set-up went today. And even more importantly, you might clean out a kitchen drawer or a linen closet and donate to this excellent cause. It really is a "hand up not a hand out" project. http://operationfeed.weebly.com/token-store.html
  8. April is charity month at the Lake Chapala Duplicate Bridge Club. 20% of every session fee will be donated to charity. This is a great way to have fun playing bridge while helping the local community. This year the Lake Chapala Duplicate Bridge Club is proud to support the University Vocational Assistance program (UVA). UVA is perhaps the oldest continuous lakeside charity. It has been in operation for almost 40 years assisting lakeside university students in the pursuit of their dreams of a higher education. UVA has an organized procedure for evaluating potential participants in the program and monitoring them though out their university career - home visits are required, 8.5 grade point average is monitored each semester and assistance extends through the licensing process. These students represent the future of our community and we truly need to “feed their dreams and watch them grow”. The Lake Chapala Duplicate Bridge Club is located in Riberas Del Pilar between Mom’s Deli and Maskaras Clinic. Sessions are held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday starting at 1:15 in the afternoon. There is also a Friday morning session at 9:00 AM that includes a short lesson for less experienced players. Please join us during the month of April and help support this worthy cause.
