  1. Yoshi is a beautiful adult Shepherd mix who just loves to have fun! He is both elegant and silly. How is that possible? Well, he's got many distinguished traits of the Shepherd breed. Yoshi has a quick, adept mind, an agile physique that's on the large side; a sweet, intelligent face; and gorgeous looks. But if you've been around Shepherds at all, you know that these traits also include goofy playfulness! Yoshi is great with other dogs - the more, the merrier, as far as he's concerned. He's a tail-wagging machine when it comes to meet-and-greets with dogs, and he will happily join in the playtime. Add a person into the mix, and he has found his bliss! Yoshi came to us as a young dog who was a handful. We sent him to our local expert trainer, who taught him how to calm down, focus, and let his true personality shine. And boy, is that shine bright! Yoshi is such a joyful dog. He now absolutely loves to go on walks, and he is good on leash. After the initial excitement period, he settles down and walks like a true gentleman. He's a fairly big guy, with a healthy activity level, so he would make a fantastic running partner. A true inspiration for you to get out there and run with him! His calm, sweet temperament makes it a pleasure to spend time with him. Yoshi is more than happy to exchange kisses and conversations with his human. He is very trainable, always eager to meet the challenge of behavior tasks. And he loves anything that stimulates his gray matter, especially when it involves interacting with people. He still needs a little work on focusing, but will be a great student of obedience. He has mastered a few simple commands and can only improve. Yoshi has been at The Ranch far too long. We would love to see him go to a good home where he can truly shine. Help this deserving boy find his forever home. You won't regret it. Meet Our Dogs Contact Us
  2. “Leo the Love Sponge,” as one of our volunteers fondly refers to him, is a social, sweet, smart, athletic boy. Leo loves to go for walks, and he makes it a pleasure to walk him: he bounces around with sheer joy, but never pulls. What a happy dog! Leo is a nice medium size, so his athleticism is not overwhelming. Learning new tricks, like leaping on command, is one of his favorite things. Oh, and did I mention how handsome he is? Leo has a great smile and a healthy, glossy black coat. When Leo came to us, he was shy. So shy that he did not want to let us put a collar and leash on him, even though it meant he would get to go for a super fun walk. Leo would avoid having people touch and pet him, which made it difficult for our volunteers to walk him and thus a challenge to socialize him. As with all of our dogs, we wanted to make Leo as comfortable as possible at The Ranch. We worked hard to get him to accept a collar; once that happened, the rest is history! With a little perseverance, a few treats, and lots of love, Leo transformed into the delightful and very special dog that he is today. Leo thrives on affection and radiates love. Help him find the loving home he deserves, and he will gladly reward you with many kisses. Meet Our Ranch Dogs
  3. Sweet and friendly Pokemon is definitely a gamer! He came to us with his buddy Perla. Both of them were very well cared for by a local who sadly died recently. It's clear from his demeanor that Pokemon was previously in a happy and loving situation! Perla is much smaller than Pokemon and at first we were concerned with their level of play. Was Perla safe? But it soon became obvious that Pokemen knew just how rough he could play without hurting her. Perla adores him. He is a cutie, with a sweetly unique face and sparkling brown eyes. He is very good on leash, gregarious, and absolutely loves humans. Pokemon is athletic and active, joyful, engaging and well you get the picture. We can't find anything wrong with this guy! He's the perfect size and is just a happy and sweet dog. He would likely do very well in agility training or similar activity, but we think he also would be content with just being your grand champion BFF, as long as you are by his side! Pokemon is a 3 year old Shepherd mix, high-energy and smart! Contact us Meet our dogs
  4. THIS IS ME - MTNTMAMA - BUT MY ACCOUNT HAS BEEN HACKED AND LOCKED???? Our Manchas, like most Ranch dogs, has quite a story to tell. For most of our dogs, we knew little about their early lives but that's not true for Manchas. Manchas and five litter mates were found in an arroyo when they were only a few weeks old. All six of those pups were extremely traumatized and unwilling to trust. A wonderful Mexican rescuer took the pups into her home and cared for them until they were about four months old. At that point, she was just so overwhelmed that she asked for our help. That was over four years ago. During that time, one by one his litter mates blossomed with the love that The Ranch hands were showing them and found homes. Manchas was the slowest to trust, but now he's fully socialized. Manchas is a beautiful boy who weighs about 40 pounds - a perfect size for many people. He loves his walks and holds his tail up high and prances around The Ranch as if he were a king. He also greets visitors to his run with the sweetest hug - not overwhelming, but just enough to show you that he is happy to see you. With his spotted coat, he is really a stunning dog. Manchas has more than served his time at The Ranch and is so ready for a forever, loving home. I know that he wouldn't disappoint and would reward his adopters with tons of love and loyalty. He's almost five years old - let's give him the happy life he deserves. If you’d like to meet this beautiful dog or any of the other nearly 100 dogs at The Ranch, please contact us.
  5. Our Safari is one sweet little pup. She has really seen more than her fair share of difficulties in her 8 months on this earth. When she was only a few months old, she was abandoned at a dump. Luckily, a devoted rescuer found her and cared for her until we could take her in. At the time she was abandoned, one of her front legs was broken. Our vets attempted to let the leg heal, but it soon became obvious that additional measures needed to be taken. We made the difficult decision to amputate. After surgery Safari went into foster care and her foster mother loved her. She was charmed by Safari’s sweet, gentle spirit and how she quickly adjusted to her new life as a tripod. Now back at The Ranch, Safari is such an easy, lovable pup. She happily greets us each morning and plays with her kennel mates. She only weighs about 30 pounds and we feel she’ll be a medium sized dog. If you’d like to meet this beautiful dog or any of the other nearly 100 dogs at The Ranch, contact us for directions on how to find us.
  6. Oh Simba, you are a beautiful dog! He has the most dramatic brindle markings and the biggest doggy smile! He is a nice largish dog who weighs 45 pounds. He's about 18-months old. He is always happy and full of excitement when it's his time for a walk. He can initially appear to be a little over active in his run, but it's just because he is so happy that it's walk time! Once he's out on leash, he's amazing. Simba came to us last August. We felt that this beautiful dog would be adopted in no time. In fact, he was placed on hold by a rescue in the US, but sadly the adopters weren't able to go through with the adoption. He would do best with an active family. He does fine with other dogs and is gentle enough to be with young kids. Maybe this is just the dog you've been searching for? Contact Us
  7. So our Miss Trudy…..she is an overlooked treasure at The Ranch! She arrived in June as a young pup, but was just a bit shy and introverted and didn’t immediately draw the attention of an adopter or a rescue group. Now that she’s been with us for six months, she’s totally good with people, good with other dogs and just really good in general. She’s ten-months old now so still has a lot of that puppy energy. She would do best with an active family and I am sure she would like her own yard. I’m sure she’d welcome another dog as a playmate as she really loves wrestling with her run mates. She weighs 35 pounds now and probably won’t get much bigger. And really…who could resist those ears! If you’d like to meet her or receive more information on this beauty, please contact us. 8. Ranch Dog of the Month by Syd Sullins August marked the third year that Snow has been in our shelter. We hate to see lovable dogs spend so much of their life with us, but Snow’s story is complicated. When she and her five litter mates were very young, they were found near death in a culvert by a local rescuer. The rescuer has a huge heart and is usually able to help all her dogs learn to trust again, but she didn’t have any luck with this group. Their trauma was severe. They basically acted feral. When they were about six months old, the rescuer asked us to take them as they were just too much for her. We did accept them and it took a while to start to get through to them. But our Ranch hands as usual worked their magic, and one by one they became more socialized and we were able to find adopters for some….but Snow and two of her brothers remain at The Ranch. They are all now wonderful dogs. They might be a bit hesitant with strangers but can’t resist anyone who comes into their run with a leash - they love their walks. Snow especially is a sweet and loving dog. She’s happy to have visitors, does well with other dogs and has perfect manners on leash. But, as often is the case with white dogs, she’s deaf. Also she has a irritable digestive system and does best with grain free food. And for some reason she’s lost many of her teeth. I was fortunate enough to foster her for several weeks to evaluate how she behaved in a home. I loved having her! She did often seek out a room to be by herself to nap. The bathroom was a favorite spot but she also was often very sociable and loved to be near me. She did really well with my other dogs. She immediately figured out house training, although she did best if she was kenneled at night. So Snow comes with a little baggage, but most of us carry some as well. I do know that she’s a wonderful dog that is so deserving a warm, loving forever home. She has more than done her time at The Ranch. Could you be the special person she’s been looking for? CONTACT US
  9. Canela is a very special girl. She was discovered tied to a tree every day. Some very kind people approached the owner and purchased her. She was fostered until we could take her to the Ranch. She came to us skinny but happy. She is almost a year old and very willing to learn, be loved and play. She gets along with other dogs and is super affectionate and playful. She would make an exceptional companion. Canela needs some training but is great on a leash. Her amazing personality along with her intelligence makes her a spectacular dog. If you need a hiking companion, a watch dog or a canine to love, come and meet Canela. CONTACT US
  10. Meet our beautiful Vincente! He was a street dog that most likely had a home but was abandoned. It’s obvious that he’s friendly and happy to get his walks and be the center of your attention. It’s also obvious that he is good with other dogs. And it’s also obvious that at some point in his life, he had to be a fighter - he is a distemper survivor. Odds of surviving this awful virus are only 50/50, and Vicente was one of the lucky ones. Unfortunately, distemper can leave it’s mark long after the dog recovers. Vincente has a slight, but noticeable, facial tick. This in no way affects his ability to love and be a great companion. It’s just something that he carries with him from his past; I look at it as a badge of honor for his courage. Vincente is about two years old and weighs 45 pounds. CONTACT US
