  1. If I were younger I'd buy a condo there and split my time between the city and the lake. Best of both worlds. When we first visited Guadalajara its restaurant scene was non-existent. Now it rivals CDMX. There are all ranges of eateries from food trucks to high-end places. Other than the wine prices at the best restaurants, their food prices are reasonable given the quality and innovation of their dishes. I'm a local cheerleader for Ajijic restaurants, but frankly there is no place here that comes close to Alcalde, Bruna, Tukuun, Allium, to name a few. We starting doing foodie trips to Guadalajara then Covid hit and we stopped. Recently re-started and spent a week in October; rented a condo and used Uber (or our feet) to visit a lot of great eateries. Hope to return for a week after the holidays.
  2. It was 3 days, now it's 1 day. NEVER was 72 hours, and it's not 24 hours now. Test anytime the day before travel is good ALL day for your flight the next day. CDC Guidelines are found here https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/international-travel-during-covid19.html Also clarification here, https://www.forbes.com/advisor/travel-insurance/covid-travel-rules-restrictions-latest-news-12-02-21/ The test requirements include taking it within one calendar day and is not limited to within 24 hours of your departure. This means that passengers will be able to take their test at any time during the day before their flight, no matter what time their flight departs.
  3. Looks like there will be a new form to fill out for travel to US. From CDC website, https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/international-travel-during-covid19.html Contact Information REQUIRED All air passengers to the United States are also required to provide contact information to airlines before boarding flights to the United States. This strengthens a travel process already in place to rapidly identify and contact people in the U.S. who may have been exposed to a communicable disease, such as COVID-19. Access to travelers’ contact information will allow U.S. federal, state, and local health departments, and agencies to share appropriate health and public health information necessary to help keep the public safe.
  4. Most labs turn-around time is within a few hours for antigen tests. I don't see this change from 3 days to 1 day as a major hassle here, other than many labs are closed on Sundays which will be an issue if you have an early Monday flight. btw, CDC has announced the 1 day testing requirement begins for flights to US in Monday, Dec. 6th.
  5. https://thepointsguy.com/news/pre-travel-testing-shorter/ The one day rule applies to US Citizens as well as other travelers. Either an Antigen test (fastest) or PCR test is needed. It is not a 24 hour timeframe, it is anytime the day before you travel, or the day of travel, regardless of your flight time. Shorter testing window coming next week Unfortunately for travelers, pre-travel testing to fly back to the United States is about to get more stressful than ever under a new policy that’s about to take effect. As of next week, travelers will have even less time to arrange for COVID-19 testing to fly back to the U.S. — regardless of vaccination status. The new rule will require all travelers, vaccinated or not, to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no later than one day before departure. This gives travelers less time to arrange for a COVID-19 test before their flights and can potentially complicate the plans of travelers with particularly jam-packed itineraries or those in more remote areas.
  6. Latest on boosters here, https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/mexico-reverse-give-covid-19-booster-shots-81472246
  7. On a few occasions where I've "won" the random special enhanced security lotto and had to go through the non-pre-check TSA line, the biggest problem with the line are the passengers. Clueless as to the rules, which are posted prominently....can't read, won't read. Not prepared to remove shoes, keys and coins still in pocket after 3rd try through the security apparatus. Bunch of bozos. I feel sorry for the TSA agents.
  8. This is the most active group that I know of now. Grupo Axixic Chimalli https://www.facebook.com/groups/279480229656232
  9. https://ttp.dhs.gov/ Check your credit cards...many reimburse the $100 fee. Card is good for 5 years, so it's just 20 bucks annually if you have to pay out of pocket.
  10. The info I posted is from this website as of today, https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/covid-vaccinated-travellers-entering-canada Vaccines not currently accepted Cansino (Convidecia, Ad5-nCoV) Gamaleya (Sputnik V, Gam-Covid-Vac) Vector Institute (EpiVacCorona)
  11. That changed yesterday for Sinovac which is now OK, but Cansino still not accepted. https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/covid-vaccinated-travellers-entering-canada Starting November 30 2021, the following COVID-19 vaccines authorized by the World Health Organization (WHO) will be accepted by the Government of Canada for travel: Bharat Biotech (Covaxin, BBV152 A, B, C) Sinopharm (Beijing) BBIBP-CorV (Vero Cells) Sinovac (CoronaVac, PiCoVacc) Vaccines not currently accepted Cansino (Convidecia, Ad5-nCoV) Gamaleya (Sputnik V, Gam-Covid-Vac) Vector Institute (EpiVacCorona)
  12. Get Global Entry...guarantees TSA pre-check and oh-so-fast thru immigration when arriving in US.
  13. Yes, mobile units. I can remember seeing them as long ago as 2009; here's a thread from the OB from very early 2015 when it was outside the Farmacia Guadalajara in Ajijic. They did both mammos and density tests for 850p total, both tests. https://www.insidelakeside.com/t13397-mamogram-bone-density-mobile-unit?highlight=bone+density#152430
  14. Yes there is a mobile unit, not sure who operates it. I last saw it set up near the Ajijic Plaza about a year ago. Years ago I saw it at parking lot at Farmacia Guadalajara.
  15. I've used all the domestics here. I pay for add-ons for whatever they offer....more carryon's, front of plane seating, early boarding, seat selection when purchasing. Some of the MEX airlines don't offer all of the aforementioned, but most offer some of them. I don't use MEX airlines going to US....much better service with US carriers, and yes I treat myself to biz or first class. Life's getting too short for me to sit crammed in back of plane when most US carriers only charge around 300 USD extra round trip to sit in a tad more comfort upfront. Have used domestic no-frills carriers in EU and they have same issues as domestic MEX flights. I don't use US no-frills carriers like Spirit...again, why torture myself at this age.
  16. Lydia had them for 750 at her medical supply store in Ajijic (carretera at Aquiles Serdan, next door to Vinos America).
  17. Where did you get that quote...was it from the Chapala gobierno?? It sounds more like 'gringo' advice re: closing windows. If you pay attention you will see that locals OPEN their windows when the spray trucks go by. You can see MXN advice here from another MXN government spraying campaign. https://www.tamaulipas.gob.mx/en/salud/2021/08/conmemora-tamaulipas-dia-internacional-contra-el-dengue-con-acciones-de-prevencion/ "He asked to let the health personnel (brigadistas), duly accredited, enter the homes since they are trained to guide, apply abate in containers used to store water and eliminate the breeding sites of the Aedes Aegypti. In the same way, open doors and windows when the spray trucks pass by."
  18. From the FB page of Chapala Gobierno. Not sure if it includes spraying. 20. Sure they do, you can create a QR code to link to any page on internet or to documents, pictures, etc. Now, if you mean to display their proof of vax, well you can, sorta. I created a QR code to link to a photo of my FL vaccine card. I also created a QR code to link to my FL "proof" of vaccine medical record. On the later, because the site is password protected, it goes to the log-in page. I enter my p/w and then my VVR (verification of vaccine record) appears. QR Code generator appears on the upper right in Chrome, just above the bookmark bar, at least it does on my PC. I don't recall putting it there, noticed it a few months ago.

  22. I don't know this for a fact, but since his current site is mostly open to the elements, it could be he's not looking for 4 solid walls and roof. Lots of newer younger chefs and owners going in that direction. Look at Meraki, Tabarka, Lobo de Mar, La Pacena. These are the places serving the most innovative food right now. They are all mostly open to the elements, and other than La Pacena, with limited roof coverings. Even Cocinart when they added their new patio, opted for a non-traditional roof/canopy that went up very quickly. And Gosha's opened with no covered seating, then added a roof covering in their 2nd or 3rd year, as I recall.
