It is mandated by law that doctors in training provide their time and give back to the country. I don't see how this impacts their capabilities in any way. To me, it's shocking how much doctors up north charge for even the smallest of services.

After they do 5 years of training at the university, in which the last 2 years they spend most of their time in the IMSS hospitals, the students are required to do a year of free service to a government institution as a way of paying the government back for what was considered a free education. They would not send a student to a "for profit" business like one of the pharmacies. They send them to IMSS hospitals and clinics, and Centros de Salud, for example.  The best doctors are not going to sit at one of those pharmacies for 200p a day after going to school all those years. Who would? Only someone who can't find anything better, or someone who is a doctor and owns the pharmacy and makes money from selling the medications.

Does that say something about the doctor?

Yes I think it does. The doctors who work at those Pharmacies are paid a wage similar to that of an uneducated construction worker, ( or less) after attending university and doing their service for 6 years. That wage will not attract the best graduates of medical school, nor will the very limited and repetitive nature of the patients' complaints they will hear. Anyone good at medicine will not settle for a job like that, in my opinion. To me its shocking that any doctor will work for those wages. I have seen jobs advertised in the past at those pharmacies offering a wage of 200p a day. For a doctor. Imagine.

  3. In 12 years I have never had a housecleaner or gardener ask for time off for medical appointments or for IMSS coverage.  I don't think you are obliged to pay for sick days but you are obliged to pay for "vacation" days, which most workers never actually take, so maybe you could make the days he takes off his "vacation" days so that you don't have to pay them out at the end of the year with his aguinaldo. Instead he gets that one day a month with pay.

I sure hope that when you bought the house the realtors made sure you got finiquitos for the years they worked for the previous owner.

  4. I have to just say that I am surprised at how many foreigners will go through this whole procedure, to try to get a 50% discount on their 200 dollar property taxes, from a municipality which  desperately needs their tax money.  I am only guessing but I bet the staff who weren't very friendly were thinking the same thing. When they see foreigners living what is "the high life" compared to theirs, travelling, eating out in restaurants often, buying all kinds of things those workers could never afford, simply even owning a home which many of them never will, and then wanting to save that $100 because they have heard that they too are "entitled" to this discount, it might make them somewhat upset, don't you think?

    What about large animals?

There was a mare with her colt penned off Pepe Guizar up by the cemetery.  NOTHING for her to eat.

Sure, green in her enclosure,, but it was all castor trees & shoots - poisonous.  She'd long ago eaten all the grass & edible weeds.

Really hurt me watching her wasting away trying to produce enough milk for her undersized baby.  I would make the cabbie go a block out of the way.  I did stop & ask at the mechanic's shop who owned the property & the mare, but got shoulder shrugs... (and am fluent in Spanish).

Finally, the horse disappeared about a month ago.  I hope she didn't die.  I hope someone took her out of there & rehabbed her, got the colt onto formula.  She was in Condition Level 1 and I was dreading finding her dead there one day.

Crippled & sick as I am, I'd like 5 minutes in a locked room with the culero owner!  Just me & my walking stick & him!   And when I'm finished, I'd like to lock HIM in a tiny space & just see how much he finds to eat there, let him drink from a polluted runoff...  y despues, darle otra paliza para que no ovida su leccion!

    Gah!

Being bilingual must have made it much easier for you when you reported the animal neglect to the numbers and emails at the top of the post.  What response did you get from them?  Maybe your report is what helped the horses be removed.

Please take note that no one has mentioned how good service is from E2 (now SmartPV).  That's because I and everyone I know that purchased from them has never needed service!  Also, I highly recommend getting proposals from 2 or more vendors.  Pay particular attention to the manufacturers of the panels and the inverter.  Personally, I wanted US, Japan, or European brands.  Those vendors have stayed in business for many years.  Many others e.g. Chinese have failed.  Your 10 or 20 year warranty is useless when a maker is out of business.  Finally, insist that your proposal shows the make and model number of every component.  Without that information your warranty will be useless if the local company goes out of business.

We also used E2 Energias ( now SmartPV ) and had excellent service and a price 1800 USD lower than eSun's quote.  We would highly recommend them.

  7. He is young and single and so is willing to do pet sitting as well, to supplement his income as he gets his practice established. Who better to look after your animals than a Vet? In Canada we used to have a Veterinary Technician pet sit for us and it was great because our diabetic cat needed regular shots and many people aren't comfortable doing that. If any of our pets were sick she could also take them to work with her, so it was a great arrangement. He spayed my Pomeranian a few months ago and did a great job, with the cleanest little incision and in no time she was healed up without a mark on her. Dr. Omar also has a cell number where you can reach him on off hours, and it is 331.341.0538
