A friend wrote this to me today "I got stopped in a transit roundup today & got a ticket for no current emissions test. I’m working with a Mexican friend to go & get that. If you have a new car (my friends bought their Nissan March a year ago last December) do you need emissions checked every year? They’re wondering if they have to go in." I was under the impression that emissions testing was currently on hold and would not be resumed until at least June. Has that changed? Also how long until a new car requires emissions testing? A 2017? A 2018?

Yes, that's what I saw but it never occurred to me that they wouldn't have a service department. I wonder how people are to get Subarus serviced to keep the warranties in effect. I sure don't want to drive to Monterrey or somewhere to have a service . . . 'Tis a dilemma.

I understand the Subaru dealership on Av. Vallarta has closed. By searching Subaru Mexico online I see a dealership listed on Av. Pablo Neruda. Does anybody know if that Subaru dealership actually exists?

How does one deal with tiny ants that appear from under the baseboard daily? Is there an exterminator in Ajijic?
I would like to know if an exterminator can get rid of those tiny ants. I've heard them called sugar ants. My maid calls them esquimiles. I had them crawling up and down the walls in a couple of places in my bathroom. I finally popped the face plates on the plug and light switch and sprayed inside with a heavy dose of Raid. That was two weeks ago. So far no more sign of them.

That's ridiculous. I'm going to suggest people get better screens. They don't come into my house.
I agree. I don't usually have bobos or other insects in my house unless I leave a door open. The rare one may come in through the dog door in the screen door. I always assumed that all screen here was extra fine.

I used to enjoy Chef Pian's cooking at Tepetate, being old fashioned I still believe in being faithful to your former employer thats why I will never frequent Chef Pian's establishment who after already one move might not necessarily be around for a long time.
I have no idea what you are referring to about being faithful to one's former employer. You obviously know more about the reason Chef Pian left Tepetate than I do. Employees are not indentured servants; they have the right to change jobs and move on in their careers. All I know is that based on my recent experiences at both places Pian' s food was superior to Tepetate's. I will choose to return to Pian's over Tepetate. If my only choice were Tepetate I would pass. Now i want to try Simply Thai again after many years to compare with Pian's.

I finally made it to Pian Thai in its new location on Hidalgo. I ordered a combo and the food was very fresh and well-prepared. The peanut sauce wss as I like it, thick with a little kick to it. The other two sauces were tasty too. The fresh roll was so much better than the one I had recently at Tepetate. I'm pleased to have Chef Pian back preparing Thai food that I like.

I don't mean to get nitpicky here, but what you are saying is that you like the peanut sauce better than that at Chopsticks. I like the sauce at Chopsticks better; in fact I like everything at Chopsticks better than at the Thai place. But, differences in taste make the world go around.😋
I think the peanut sauce at Chopsticks is too thin, not peanutty enough, and not very flavorful because it does not have enough heat.

Tamarind sauce? Now I'll need to try it. Thanks.
I believe tamarind juice is one of the basic ingredients in pad thai seasoning that gives the dish its flavor.

I was very disappointed in the fresh rolls I had recently at Tepetate, mostly filled with rusty cabbage. Their peanut sauce is good, much better than Chopsticks.

After you've seen the rest, you might want to consult with the best!
Dr Rafael Rodriguez practices in Guadalajara and in San Antonio, Texas.(you can google him)
He is hailed as one of the best COPD specialists in Mexico and Texas. Will answer your emails too!
Phone 333 642 1083I highly recommend Dr. Rafael Rodriguez Blanco. He was my pulmonologist when I had a massive lung infection about 7 or 8 years ago. He practiced in Guadalajara and is on staff at the University of Texas-San Antonio. Excellent doctor.

I sent you a PM with the lawyer's contact information. Good luck!

I can recommend a lawyer based in Guadalajara but who comes to Lakeside for clients. He helped a friend out of a tough situation when her husband died and somebody else tried to take control of her and the estate. That s lawyer speaks English. OK me if you want his information. In some cases it is better to not hire locally due to possible conflict of interest.

I don't see any combination plates on the menu like those offered at Tepetate. Am I mistaken about that? I like a variety of tastes.

A new assisted living place just opened in Riberas del Pilar, about 1/2 block North of the Jewish synagogue. I don't remember it's name but maybe somebody else will know.

What happened to the lady who used to be just behind the mercado in Chapala? I always found great garden clothes there....
Was that Smokee's? If so, I think that store has been closed for years. There is another Smokee's in Plaza Bugamvillas. I believe Smoked passed away years ago.

No don´t exit the baggage claim área into the lobby of the TJ airport and see those INM officials at the kiosk because they will not take your FMM cad and will tell you only at the border willl they take it. I enter from the TJ baggage claim área the CBX área, get my ticket for the CBX at the CBX counter about face walk 50 feet following the "To Mexico" sign where there are 2 INM desks for people using the CBX to enter Mexico from the.US. Then I about face walk 50 feet back to the CBX entrance área from the TJ airport baggage claim area and follow the sign "To USA" by giving my CBX ticket to the security at the entrance to the CBX.
That sounds like what I did but they refused to take the FMM form and told me I had to go to Otay or San Ysidro land crossing to do that. Beats me . . .

I have used CBX with my RP card. You talked to the INM officials in the TJ baggage claim área. Those guy are generally there to monitor foreigners in Mexico without legal immigration documents, not to hand out FMM cards to legal residents leaving Mexico and think you still have to leave the airport and probably don´t care about the CBX. If you had taken the CBX entrance from the baggage área, bought a ticket for the CBX and walked 50 feet in the opposite direction to where you are - now you have technically left Mexico not when you are still in the TJ airport - and followed the sign to Mexico there are 2 INM desks. There with your CBX ticket, your boarding pass from a national flight, your passport, your INM resident card they will give you a FMM card to fll out and take it. You then about turn and go back to the CBX entrance área and follow the to USA signs and leave Mexico. When returning to Mexico hand INM the larger top portion filled out with your entry info.
I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. I had the FMM form filled out in hand. I asked where immigration was and was directed to the opposite end of the baggage area from the CBX entrance. That was where I had entered the baggage area originally. The official there asked if I was a US citizen when I entered. There was a podium there with the INM seal. That gentleman was the official I returned to in order to turn in my FMM form. He is the one who told me I had to leave the airport and go to either the Otay or San Ysidro land crossing to do that. I stood by podium for awhile and another INM official approached me and told me the same thing...leave the airport and go to one of the land crossings, that they did not take the FMM there at the airport.
So are you saying I should have left the baggage area and walked out into the airport itself where I would have found another INM desk that would have received my FMM form? It seems odd that the INM officers in the baggage area would not have told me that rather than directing me to a land crossing. One would believe they would know that. I'd like to understand what you are saying for future reference. Would you be so kind as to clarify, please, where the INM desk that does receive the FMM form?

I had a friend that walked across the bridge and INM didn't want his form. When he returned the same way, no consequences as no one wanted his form on his return either.
Yes, I believe I said that I was told that it you leave and return by the CBX you don't have to follow the normal procedure of checking out and checking back in through INM.

This is a warning to residents flying to Tijuana and entering the U.S. via the CBX. I recently flew to Tijuana and crossed to the U.S. via the Cross Border Express (CBX) to catch a cruise ship out of San Diego. Before entering the CBX in the luggage claim area of the Tijuana airport I went to the INM desk there to turn in my FMM form as a permanent resident exiting Mexico. I was told that I could not do that there and in order to turn in the form I had to exit the Tijuana airport and go to a land crossing at Otay or San Ysidro. The gentleman at the entrance to the CBX told me it was not necessary for residents to "check out" of Mexico with the INM form . . . if they were also returning via the CBX. As my cruise ended in Fort Lauderdale I would reentering Mexico via Mexico City. As I had already paid for the CBX as well as a shuttle on the U.S. side and I was under a time constraint to be at the ship at a certain time, I decided to enter the U.S. via the CBX and deal with the consequences of not "checking out" of Mexico after my return. I still have to talk to a lawyer about that situation so as to not jeopardize my permanente status.
I was quite surprised that there was no way to go through the proper procedure with INM at the Tijuana airport. I had researched a lot about the CBX beforehand but never came across any information regarding this. It never occurred to me I couldn't hand in my FMM form before entering the CBX. So this is just a warning to those who might plan to do like I did . . . exit Mexico via the CBX but reenter through another point.

I highly recommend Dr. Gabriel Hernandez. He is at Casita Montana on the corner of the carretera and Calle Colon in Ajijic on Tuesdays. You can contact Ann Dyer at Casita Montana for appointment. He has a very good reputation and a very caring manner.

I was very pleased with the services of Handy Artistic Upholstery, 69D Hidalgo, Riberas del Pilar, Alberto Alvarez, 376-106-0332 or cell 331 437 9593. Near the new gas station. They also cleaned some furniture for me, doing a good job at a good price.
I have used Handy Artistic recently and so far am pleased with their work. It has been quite awhile since I've had Oscar do work for me but I was pleased with it back then. I don't know how the charges for labor compare between these two shops.
Are emissions tests being done currently?

So are you saying that currently there is no admissions testing system and these cops were stopping and threatening to fine people illegally in hopes of getting a mordida?
