  1. Working for me but it is often slow or temperamental.
  2. Unfortunately, my friend Mrs. Ellie passed away a couple of years ago. She would be delighted to know that her efforts have apparently paid off.
  3. The peso is at its strongest in sometime. It is now below 19/1 From USDUS Dollar To MXNMexican Peso 1USD = 18.9685MXN
  4. I work (volunteer) in the LCS and there were no helicopters overhead from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm on the lake by the LCS
  5. I have not had a US address for 16+ years. What little mail I get comes either to my Mexico Post office box, my house address, or via internet.
  6. I am not sure it is really ending but there should not be too bad of a rush because you only can do the test on the month your license plates indicate.
  7. I also live in Upper Ajijic for 17 years full time and yes the police have come to my house all dressed up for a donation. I am very happy to give.
  8. Housing and Medical will be your two biggest costs over the years. If you plan to live here permanently the medical costs will increase as you get older. Do not plan on a free or cheap ride in Mexico.
  9. Thanks to the link yesterday I was saved from total disaster last evening. I turned on my TV for the news and of course nothing worked. I would have been totally in the dark and would have had no idea what was going on if I had not read the link and printed the new channels. Now, once again, it is just a matter of learning the new numbers for all of our favorites.
  10. This is an old contact who I have used in years past. Tec. Gualberto C. Real 765 5653 A better place to get a recommendation would be from the people in Tio Sams. When they sell ovens, etc. they send a man to install them. That is how I found out about the person above.
  11. A few years ago my Wells Fargo credit card was used in London to withdraw cash from a machine. The only time I was in London , or England was in 1966 for a brief 8 hours. How is that possible? Wells Fargo made every good and sent me a new card.
  12. Just for fun I checked CP Electronics in Guadalajara. I know in the past they have carried SHAW products. Not much in the way of receivers: Stocked--HDPVR630 for pesos 11,000 Out of Stock--HDD SR 800
  13. You will want to go to the information desk. This table is under an awning in front of the library. They will be happy to answer all your questions.
  14. On garbage Thursday this happens to me. A neighbor (?) who is walking their dog picks up their dogs poop in a plastic bag and leaves it on top of my large garbage bags. The truck comes by takes my large bags but leaves the small plastic bag with the poop on the sidewalk in front of my house. If I only knew where the person lives I would kindly return it to them.
  15. Any brand is fine. Manufacturers are not really "manufacturers"; they are like re-packagers Oh, Computer Guy....is nothing sacred anymore.
  16. Thank you all. I have a good idea of the basics, minimum that I am looking for. Now, how about brands? Lenovo was mentioned. I am not comfortable buying a fairly expensive piece of electronics at Walmart given their tendency to repackage returned items for sale again. I can look next time I am at Costco and Best Buy also.
  17. OK. Let's keep this simple. My friend is Mexican so the Spanish keyboard is required. He will be using the computer in his home in Puerto Vallarta. He has never used a computer before that I am aware (although his wife does have one) so yes, he will be a novice user. Forget about Clouds, etc. Computer Guy, thanks for the suggestion about size, etc. What is a practical number of gigabytes I should look for in a computer? I prefer to overshoot than get too little. Remember, I have never used or purchased a laptop so are there any ancillary items that do not come with the laptop purchase that I should buy for him that he will need? We are not talking printers here. Please keep the suggestions coming. This has all been very helpful.
  18. I am a life long Desk Top computer user. I am thinking of buying a computer (laptop) for a Mexican friend but I am totally ignorant about laptops. I am looking for a quality machine---not the cheapest and not the most expensive. I would appreciate any suggestions for a reliable brand and what to look for. If it matters the person who will be receiving the computer is an adult. Also, I am not interested in Apple. Do new laptops come with Windows 10 installed? Thanks for the help and suggestions.
  19. Speaking of Telmex my internet service is off and on the past two weeks. The problem is not at my house but in "the area." Other neighbors are experiencing the same problem. We never know when it will be operational and for how long. It goes off from one to three times a day for varying times. We are two blocks up from the Telmex office. I have filed a report with Telmex. I feel like the unimportant, and overlooked, child.
  20. What about the large apartment construction behind these? Where are the cars going to? That area is already a terrible bottleneck. I cannot wait when more cars are trying to enter traffic at this area.
  21. I know about all the local calendars but I asked about an American style calendar where Sunday is the first day; not Saturday. Even though I have been here well over 16 years somethings just never change. At my age I am often confused about the date as it is 😄
  22. I am looking for an American style large 2020 calendar. This is the type that is 12" x 12" when folded shut. Up until last year I have always bought these at Costco but starting last year they no longer sell calendars. If you know of a place that sells them either at Lakeside or Guadalajara please let me know.
