  1. According to this page, You can register and see your account info: https://www.asoservices.solutions/CHAPALA/PAGO_WEB/Control_Acceso/Automatizacion/Registro_Usuario
  2. When I was in Havana, I stopped outside a window of a house to listen to the music they were playing in the living room. When they noticed me, they stopped playing and invited me in. They gave me some orange juice and introduced me to brother, mother, sister, everyone. We had a good time, a very good human time.
  3. I use a service in the states that receives my mail, scans the envelope and sends me an email to let me know. I can view the scan and decide what to do next: have them scan the contents, forward it, or shred it. This might not be the best option if you're only going to be away a few months, but thought I'd toss it out there in case. I've been using this service for over 10 years and it's been handy. Most all my dealings are electronic, but there's still a small amount of paper involved.
  4. A street hustler guy I know stopped by the table where I was having coffee with a Mexican friend. After he went on his way, I told my friend how I always had trouble understanding that guy. My friend said: Don't worry. I couldn't understand him, either. 🙂
  5. In case you don't know, TOB is secret insider code for: https://www.insidelakeside.com/ but don't tell anybody else....😎
  6. Okay, have fun and if I see you around, I'll try and say hello. I'm from Guanajuato but am in Chapala off and on. Also, don't mind the trolls and the rude/unpleasant people. Most people are cool, but there's always a few who live to put others down.
  7. Got into Chapala from Guanajuato this afternoon. All tolls went up in February, except the 22 peso one near Silao. On the way back last time, wasn't sure because I took the scenic (aka free) route. Lots of fun little towns, but slow.
  8. Could be on some roads I suppose, but I travel between Chapala and Guanajuato every two weeks and have the tolls memorized... Well, I did anyway...Plus I spoke with the lady at the caseta about the increase.
  9. I traveled from Guanajuato to Chapala on Feb 13. When I returned on Feb 16, the tolls had gone up. So much for thinking they only raise tolls in January...
  10. I love the way you have trained your doggies to pick stuff up. The only thing my dogs pick up is food if it falls on the floor, and they don't give it back.
  11. Sometimes people start saying something negative about me or my dog. Here's what I do: I just keep going on my way. Not worth engaging. I know my dog. You know yours. End of story. Have a good run.
  12. Lately, I've traveled from Guanajuato to Chapala several times. The app.sct.gob.mx site is way off. For instance, it shows the first toll here in Guanajuato to be 24 pesos, which it hasn't been for at least 6 years. Others similarly out of date. Tollsmart at least is closer to the real price. Plus, app.sct.gob.mx still uses Adobe flash player. Tells you all you need to know about their commitment to stay updated. Which is to say, they don't have one.
  13. According to: https://www.tollsmart.com/trip-calculators/ it's MXN $2597 Never used this before, not sure how accurate, but maybe give you an idea.
  14. Since we're on the topic of death (sort of) , allow me to mention: https://lastlanding.com/ a digital deadman switch service for people who want to make sure that selected info gets into the right hands in the event of their disappearance or death. It's a good way to make sure things that need to be disclosed do indeed get disclosed. And speaking of disclosure: I am the creator / owner.
  15. About thirteen years ago, somebody told me of a writer's conference in San Miguel de Allende. I went because it was in Mexico and I didn't know anything much about Mexico. At the end of the conference week, I went home and started getting ready to move. Lived in San Miguel for a while, Mexico City for a while, San Cristobal de las Casas, and later wound up in Guanajuato where I've been for about 10 years. Haven't been in the states now for about 5 years.
