I recommend the Best Western Mcallen Medical Center. Good price, walking distance to walmart, swimming pool. Also, last time i tried to cross at Pharr, on a sunday, they were closed for few hours around lunchtime. Had to backtrack to the other crossing. That was in may.

FWIW, Mexican driver with mexican cars have been able to cross @ mcallen for the past month. Saying they go pick up American citizens is enough to gain entry.
