  1. 1) We entered at Columbia Solidarity Bridge Crossing, Laredo, TX. INM visit easy peasy at the same we secured our TIP (see below). If you are Residente Temporal vs. Tourista make sure they identify you as Residente on your entery into Mexico and not as a Tourista.

    2) I "second" Lewis & Lewis... good online site to buy "tourista" auto insurance for Tourists and Residente Temporal, and very good rates. They also allow you to select the region of the country you will be driving. For example its basically the Bajio Region north or the entire country. Since we never planned to driveĀ our vehicle to Mexico City, Oaxaca, Ixtapa, etc. (its easy to fly there) it saved a bit of premium.

    3) We did our TIP at the Banjercito at Columbia Solidarity Bridge Crossing, Laredo, TX. Took about 30 minutes in line. No experience from any friends purchasing online, only hearsay. Online TIPĀ https://www.banjercito.com.mx/registroVehiculos/Ā Ā You do have one other interesting option living in Colorado, you can visit a US based Banjercito office and take care of it in person. Might be worth a phone call atĀ

  2. On May 17, 2023 I started a thread on recommendations for top Lakeside agencies and Mexican Insurers. Out of that discussion came a couple of comments on Mexican Auto Insurance by KM (premium based on use, kilometers driven).Ā  šŸš—Ā  Here is an atricle linkĀ https://www.rastreator.mx/seguros-de-auto/articulos-destacados/compara-seguros-de-auto-por-kilometro.

Do you have first-hand experience with this type of Mexican Auto Insurance? Who is your insurer?Ā šŸš—

What is an easy way to determine breakeven pointĀ šŸ’°Ā  (is it worth it) vs. traditional auto insurance in Mexico?

  3. We purchased our Luuna memory foam Mexican King-size mattress at Costco on a travelling vendor sale a couple years back (they are also available now with free shipping on Amazon.com.mx) and we love its quality... made in Mexico!

As a tall guy (6' 6" - 2 meters) we found that Mexican Kings are wider than they are long 200 cm x 190 cm, so we just turned our 2 colchon individual wood frames sideways (190 cm x 100 cm) and now the bed sleeps longer than the width. The sheets look fine sideways with neutral prints and the outside bedding and covers we put on as reqular.

Problem solved way cheaper than getting a US/CAN NOB bedding size.

    Buena suerte!

  4. Thanks all for the help and recommendations.Ā šŸŒ“

I was able to get in with Dra Cynthia at Chapala Dental šŸ¦·Ā Care on Friday. It was quite the ordeal as it turned out my broken tooth was also infected in the root. Both Dr Eloy and Dra Cynthia assured me it was important to get that tooth out. Very compassionate during my 95 minutes of discomfort Ā trying to wriggle out of the dental chair šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«Ā due to the infection and my tooth in 4 parts. Back in 3 weeks after infection is gone.

  5. We crossed in Loredo at the Columbia Solidarity International Bridge. It was about $430 USD for our Nissan Versa Hatchback and the process took about 30 mins because we did not do it in advance and only one office window was open. I've read mixed reviews doing it online and printing it out but don't know anyone first hand who has done it. It would sure be easier if you could time your crossing and prepare the TIP online. Perhaps this method has improved?

  6. Well, my skill at procrastination šŸ¤”Ā Ā arranging a visit to a Dentista for cleaning/exam has brought me to a need for help.

Looking for a very good dentist (who isn't?) for an issue with a back top molar that cracked and then on a recent trip broke. Most, if not all of the one tooth is gone and starting to cause some discomfort.Ā

What kind of a Dentist can fix that issue?

    Any first hand recommendations?

Doesn't matter if the Dentista is in Guadalajara or Lakeside.Ā šŸ¦·Ā Ā Thanks in adavnce for any help.

  7. From my understanding, TIP is only available for Tourista or Temporal. You can't bring a foreign plated vehicle into MX as a Permenente for fear of it being confiscated on a traffic stop. Isn't that correct?

If you will be driving I've had good insurance success with Lewis & Lewis. Good rates, quality carrier like Qualitas. Visist www.mexicanautoinsurance.com

  8. Tequila visit is a very good idea IF you and your son enjoy Tequila. Its really only about 90 mins from Chapala- Ajijic.Ā

My recommendation is Forteleza Tequila (top rated tequileria and tequila on Tequila Matchmaker) for reservations. It was a small, fantastic tour with tastings. They will do the tours in english too. Forteleza/Los Abuelos still do things the old-fashioned (antigua) way. They are in downtown Tequila. My friends and our spouses really enjoyed the tour, property and tequila.

A second choice is Cava de Oro tequila just a little east of downtown Tequila in El Arenal. Nice tour and tastings of a premium tequila. Nearby is the son's tequleria Adictivo which is also worth a visit. Family and friends really enjoyed this visit too. Not a commercial tour like Cuervo, much smaller.

    Buena suerte!

  9. We went to Cozumel on Tuesday of this past week and Miguel was still there but the restaurant vibe WAS different. Waiters were having to learn/use a notebook computer type of ordering system and no one was rude but the fun, busy mood of the restaurant seems to have vanished. Manuel just did not seem his usual self. That's too bad to hear. The food and drinks were still good but the owner is just not very engaged.Ā

Hope someone does post where the two waiters do land.

  10. I would highly recommend a visit to Colibri Bakery in ChapalaĀ near Greg's Auto Repair and LetraCH restaurant. Colibri BakeryĀ has excellent cakes šŸ„®, pies šŸ„§, cookies and some frozen prepared meals MANY with Gluten-free and Vegan options. They do take phone orders too. Check their Facebook page.

Our neighbors and friends who are not gluten-sensative as I am, really enjoy the GF pies and cakes we get and they are NOT gluten sensitive.Ā

  11. Any experience using T-Mobile from the States in Jalisco or Mexico in General?

We currently have Verizon from the States with unlimited calls, unlimited texts and internet use.... phone service has been good (roaming with TelCel) all around Mexico but Verizon is expensive. I know we could $ave real money with a Mexican Phone plan, but it's NOT happening right now.

What kind of T-Mobile plan do you have? Is T-Mobile a good choice for a NOB plan to use in Mexico?

We're heading back to the US soon for a short family visit and I wanted to compare T-Mobile to see if I could save some money versus Verizon.

šŸ¤ Ā Mucas gracias for your comments and help!!

I have a Mexican friend who sells different types of insurance and investments products. SheĀ  is encouraging me sign up for Mapfre Car insurance. She states they respond the same as the others ( Qualitas, HDI, etc. ) to car accidents.

Who is the Broker your friend works for (or her name and contact). I may like to get a quote on MAPFRE for my insurance. Gracias!

  13. We LOVE it here too šŸ‡²šŸ‡½Ā and coming up on 3 years full time.

Human nature says to shut the door behind you and only tell your closest freinds about our little paradise, BUT it was thanks to many of you over the years - reading your posts from afar - that convinced us to give Mexico and Chapala/Ajijic a try... and we're sure glad you did

Now, to San Carlos.... I still receive a weekly newsletter from San Carlos that was on our "short list" of about 15 places in MX, even though we have never been. Take a look here...Ā https://mailchi.mp/whatsupsancarlos/newsletter-nov28-390668?e=84199735e6

  14. Now, to continue riding this horse.... šŸ‡Ā I just went onto the Visa Debit Card Agreement (USA) and here's exactly what it says, and after reading it I'm once again thinking that the OP may have a point and the question about which local banks offer the best conversion may have some validity or am I missing something below? (As many have said how you calculate your conversion rate is not being done the same for everyone, though it should be).

Page 4 of the VISA DEBIT AGREEMENT.Ā

5.)Ā  ATM's OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES

"If you use your Card to withdraw foreign currency
from an ATM, or to pay for a purchase with foreign
currency, we charge your account for the U.S. dollar
equivalent of the transaction. Depending on the spe-
cific arrangements that are in place, the exchange
rate and calculation of the U.S. dollar equivalent will
be done by the bank at which you conduct the trans-
action, the network to which the ATM belongs, or
    VisaĀ®.
The bank or network may also charge a fee.
The currency conversion rate used on the processing
date may differ from the rate in effect on the pur-
chase date or statement posting date. If the exchange
    is done by VisaĀ®
, the exchange rate between the
transaction currency and the billing currency used for
processing international transactions is as follows:
a rate selected by VisaĀ®from the range of rates
available in wholesale currency markets for the appli-
cable central processing date, which rate may vary
from the rate VisaĀ® itself receives, or the government-
mandated rate in effect for the applicable central
processing date, in each instance, plus or minus any
    adjustment determined by us

  15. Hola Airchamby,

Starlink šŸš€Ā is only worth it if ACTUAL LIVE stats like this will please you at home....

128 Mbps download; 7.6 Mbps upload, 45 ms Latency and no downtime greater than 3 secs in the past 12 hrs and that's on 7 devices.

We live east of Vista del Lago and we had no options other than TelMex and Telcel which failed ā˜¹ļøĀ horribly.

    Buena suerte!
