The airlines computer systems use algorithms that take into account the average occupancy, the day of the week, the hour of the day, the number of seats already sold, how long it took to sell those seats, and a few dozen more factors. You can price a flight and one hour later find that price has changed.Buy it in one country's type of currency or webpage and it is cheaper somewhere else.  The OP questioned... do they charge what the traffic will bear?      Every successful business in the word prices their product on what the traffic will bear.

So you are saying it doesn't matter what country one buys the ticket in? And your last sentence is very interesting. I will have to decide if that is indeed a better way to run my successful business!

What?? Are you sure you're not talking about kinescope? That technique went out many decades ago. There is lots of software available to convert video tapes to DVDs and various digital formats. eg: https://10techy.com/best-vhs-to-dvd-converters/

These look like great options...pretty inexpensive too!

VHS only though...slides, 8 and 16 millimeter home movies and old photos will need the old fashion way. But since you have a VHS tape these look great!

  3. If it helps, even the pros all use the same method: Essentially all the methods out there play/project the image on a screen, TV or even a wall. Then they place a digital recording device in front of the image being played...slides, old 8/16 mm home movies, VHS tapes....basically whatever!

Simply find a VHS player (easy) a nice TV with good quality screen and then simply set up a digital recording device, camcorder, cell phone etc on a tripod or propped up on a box...whatever you have, and press record.

After you have it recorded on a digital device, you covert it to a DVD or any of the formats of digital files...MP4 etc...this last step frequently requires a teenager or younger.

I have never checked YOUTUBE but the smart money says there are dozens of instructional videos.

Easy...it has always been a super low tech industry.

If folks only knew how easy it is considering most people already have what is needed.

  4. I have a feeling a round-trip airline ticket booked in Mexico from Guadalajara to Los Angeles and back is cheaper than a round-trip ticket booked in the US from Los Angeles to Guadalajara and back.

I know that is true for tickets purchased in Italy. My hypothesis is: US airlines or those foreign airlines  operating out of the US essentially to anywhere and then back to the US will charge what they feel the market will bear....which is more than the corresponding tickets from most places in the world to the US and then returning the place of origin.

    Anyone have a thought?

  5. The link typically is a site selling a diet program of something useless...but no matter what, it's not something good. A test is put your mouse over the top of the link....DO NOT CLICK....on my screen in the lower left, it shows where the link really goes...usually it's a site that makes no sense.

    Don't Click ever!

The exchange rate is the same at any ATM. The rates are set by Visa or Mastercard.  You can check the Visa, or Mastercard website for the  worldwide exchange rates daily

I too used HSBC recently with no surcharge..

I am not to sure of this. It would appear the banks may or may not choose to use the Mastercard or Visa rates.

Bank of America on their site says they set the exchange rate.

    "Answers

    • Hide How does Bank of America determine foreign exchange rates and why might I see different rates online or in the newspaper?

The consumer exchange rate that Bank of America N.A. (Bank of America) offers you is determined by Bank of America and is based upon such factors as we determine relevant, including without limitation, market conditions, exchange rates charged by other parties, our desired rate of return, market risk, credit risk and other market, economic and business factors. When you order foreign currency online or at one of our financial centers, the exchange rate we offer is, in effect, a rate quotation. You may accept or decline our rate quotation. If you accept our rate quotation and we have not canceled your order, you have entered into a final and binding transaction at the rate you accepted. Exchange rates shown in the newspaper and on some currency conversion sites are generally inter-bank rates available only to banks for transactions in an amount of $1 million U.S. dollars or more effected during regular business hours. These rates are not generally available to consumers obtaining foreign currency for international travel and likely will be different from exchange rates offered by Bank of America. Exchange rates offered by other dealers or shown at other sources (including online sources) may be different from Bank of America's exchange rates.Footnote1  The exchange rate you are offered may be different from, and likely inferior to, the rate paid by us to acquire the underlying currency."

      And from Mastercard:

"Please Note: The foreign exchange rate and the converted FX amount are indicative only and inclusive of the bank fee you entered. Your bank may or may not use Mastercard foreign exchange rates to bill you and may impose additional fees in connection with foreign currency transactions. Foreign exchange rates are specific to the date and time Mastercard processes the transaction which may be different from the transaction date. If your transaction is converted by the merchant or ATM operator, Mastercard foreign exchange rates will not apply. This will usually occur when you select to pay in your card's currency as opposed to the currency of the merchant or ATM. "

    Hola

I know this has probably been asked many times but I've searched online and forums but haven't seen anything that is newer than 5 years. I am driving down from Vancouver BC to Chapala this January. It will be the first time. Just wondering if anyone has suggestions on a quick route. I'm thinking it's about a 6 day drive ?  I'm pretty sure I have the route planned to Tucson but I am not sure from Nogales which way to go and how many days it will take. The best towns to stop for the night before Chapala.

Any help from those that have done it would be greatly appreciated

Take a look at these driving instructions. See if they help:

Mainecoons, you are of course right and I admit falling prey to this comment above and I apologize to all for rising to the bait. I was out of line. This board seems to have a lot of name calling and back biting. I am generally not used to it and it simply leaves me unsettled. I believe I will simply fold my tent and leave the discussions to those with thicker skins!

Finally anthropogenic global warming made it to court. Penn. State's Michael Mann sued a real climatologist Dr Tim Ball. Professor Mann  ordered to pay court costs, for failure to produce supporting evidence to prove his claim that global temperatures took a sharp upward turn when the Industrial Revolution and fossil-fuel use began pouring CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.   Pay up :()!
