  1. I'm looking for a dermatologist who does a good job with botox. Has anyone had experience with Dr. Ben, plastic surgeon? His office is in Laguna Mall. I heard he also offers botox, etc. Also, our son need allergy testing. Suggestion? Thanks.
  2. Need to get a new driver's license but the Chapala office has been closed since March due to COVID-19. Anyone know if Ocotlan office is open? Or Guadalajara office?
  3. My husband and I highly recommend Francisco for insurance needs. We have had our car and private healthcare insurance with him for a few years now and very pleased with his personal attention and knowledge of plans. He has gone the extra mile to help me with my first Mexican private healthcare claims. Highly recommended. Has years of experience. He is fluent in English. 4. EuroFreeze did a great job! Thanks to all for your recommendation. They identified what other shops had done to try and fix the AC, then fixed it right. Very reasonable, and excellent service.
  5. We have used him for oil changes, suspension, shock replacement. Very honest and fair. Get there early, they overbook sometimes.
  6. Our 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander needs air conditioner and heater repair or replacement. Have not found an experienced mechanic here after many tries. Trying to avoid the dealer repair, but willing to go to Guadalajara for mechanic who knows what they are doing. Many thanks!
  7. Need recommendations for a tax accountant to fill out the US tax forms reporting Mexican bank account information. This will be sent to my US accountant for my 2019 US taxes. Can send a PM if needed. Many thanks. "Any U.S. citizen with foreign bank accounts totaling more than $10,000 must declare them to the IRS and the U.S. Treasury, both on income tax returns and on FinCEN Form 114." "Americans with foreign accounts must also submit Form 8938 to the IRS in addition to the largely redundant FBAR form."
  8. Is house insurance a good idea? We're buying a home in Chula Vista. The house has a pool and built primarily with stucco. Our friends say they don't have insurance, as fire hazards are low here and theft issues are a pain to get reimbursement. What is the consensus? Ok to PM. Thanks!
  9. Recommendations for a hair stylist who knows how to cut naturally curly hair? Suzana on Guadalupe Victoria and Galeana is still out of town and I'm getting desperate. Also recommendations for colorist who knows how to do low lights and highlights? Many thanks!
  10. Thinking of selling your home? We would like to BUY a HOME, 3 bedrooms or 2 bedrooms with casita. Chula Vista Norte area, Libramiento, San Antonio, East or Central Ajijic. Our son attends Loyola and we want to be fairly close to the school. LAKE VIEW, modern, open concept preferred. Development ok. Would consider VIEW LOT if ready to build. Prefer Sale by Owner. Please send PM. Thank you!
  11. Do you have recommendations for a dermatologist located in Lakeside area for skin cancer detection? Have had several “moes” surgeries and need screening every 6 months. Also would like recommendations for a dermatologist or plastic surgeon for Botox, Juve injections in either Lakeside or in Guadalajara. Have used Dra. Ana at Dermika and Quality Care’s dermatologist, Dra. Daniella for skin cancer screenings and treatment. Other suggestions? PM is fine. Many thanks.
  12. I'm posting this for our house sitter and pet sitter, Marilyn. She will be visiting us in June and will be available for house and pet sitting in the Lakeside area. We love this woman. She has been caring for our Schnauzer since 2007 and we trust her completely. In her past life she was a Top 100 Realtor and is completely responsible and straightforward. Below is her message. “Greetings, Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Marilyn Robinson, originally from the Berkeley, San Francisco area. Recently retired in San Miguel de Allende, I have time to do the things I enjoy, travel and pet-care. I have many years of experience with cats and dogs, and I love them. As a former Realtor, I can handle most home emergencies. You can leave your pets and home behind worry free. I am available in Ajijic starting the middle of June. Feel free to send me a PM for more information and available dates. Prefer long-term with a minimum of 1week. References are available. If you need a Trusted Petsitter and Housesitter, please let me know. Thank You. Marilyn Robinson Robimar(at)att(dot)net”

  14. Let me clarify post. Took about 15 minute wait time and 10 minutes to do paperwork and photo. Written test was at a computer and took him about 10 minutes.
  15. Ocotlan is MUCH better than going to Guadalajara! The directions to the office posted earlier for Ocotlan are excellent. Took 10 minutes wait to get the license. Air conditioned room with about 20 chairs. We arrived at 9:30am and finished everything by 12noon. See background info below. We are from Baja with Baja MX drivers’ licenses and my husband needed to renew his license with Ajijic address. MX treats Baja as a frontier, and will not honor Baja addresses for Jalisco licenses. He had to take written exam, photo, etc., and driving test. Drivers test was scheduled for 11:30. About 20 people. Everyone gets the same time, 11:30. To take the driving test, drive around the block and park in back of the San Felipe Plaza. Before you get to the motorcycle parking area in back of the theater, on the right side is a government looking building with a rolling metal gate. You may see police cars parked in the lot and other passenger vehicles. Drive in there, and park close to the building on the right side. The woman who administers the written test and takes the photos will set up two loare orange road barriers in the parking lot. The driving test is a parallel parking test. If you don’t pass, return in two weeks for another try. Licenses good for 4 years.
