Report Driving mexican plated car to Canada in Customs and Immigration Posted June 28 ... I posted this some time ago, so time for an update. I purchased a Mexican car, a Nissan March (Micra) Jalisco plated it, properly insured it with Qualitas and drove it to Canada. Crossing the border the Americans couldn't care less... arriving in Canada.. just about the same. Immigration noted the car.. and I declared I was a Canadian NON-Resident arriving to visit family and friends after a long COVID absence, which was essentially true... he said "have a good day"... no hassles... no further questions. In fact following the rules you could become a kind of reverse snowbird.. travel to Canada as a non-resident with Mexican residente permanente in your Mexican car, stay for up 6 months (in BC you can drive it for 6 months) in the summer, Qualitas will insure you (cheaper than ICBC)... I had a special 'pink card' from them, and then you would return to Mexico for the winter. What's not to like?
