  1. Although I only smoke four or five cigars a year, I'm interested; particularly given the local connection. I hope you won't mind answering a couple questions. How many are in a box? Is it five, as in the picture? Also, can you comment on their relative strength? I get that tastes are relative, and won't ask for a full review, but people usually agree on strength. I generally prefer them strong or semi-strong. Lastly, I presume they have smaller sizes and different shapes (e.g., robustos, toros, figurados)? Sorry for all the questions but - hell - it isn't like any of us are terribly busy at the moment.
  2. Thank you for this very useful post - particularly the translation. My Spanish lessons are on hiatus due to the current situation, and finding English translations of such important information isn't always easy. As to the substance, this seems like a fairly reasonable and measured approach. I completely agree it would be unwise for anyone in a vulnerable demographic (or who is merely uncomfortable) to become less vigilant simply because it's now legal to do so. However, for those who are not especially vulnerable and/or, for whatever reasons, wish to take their chances, well, that's on them. Of course, some people who do not WISH to return to work may nevertheless now HAVE to if they want to keep their job. I feel for them, truly; but an indefinite lockdown poses problems of its own - a conundrum of which they are, no doubt, more aware than I could possibly be. Now, can we please resume alcohol production and (full) sales so people stop dying of tainted booze? I didn't wish to derail the recent RIP thread because I did not know the gentleman. As we are seeing, his is not a unique case: which makes it all the more tragic. I can get all the booze I want from Costco or Amazon. Not everyone is so lucky.
  3. We've ordered delivery from Bruno's via the Traitte app twice. I just checked and it says Bruno's opens at 3pm today. No idea whether they're taking direct calls. Good luck! It's been great both times we had it.
  4. Anyone know when the sale of low graduation alcohol resumes? Immediately? Soon? To be determined?
  5. The symmetry between the content of the quoted passage and the author's name is just about perfect. Quite a salient point, too. Every constitution (written or not) which I've studied is like a set of handcuffs to which governments long ago palmed the key. We can agree, or not, on whether a given unconstitutional action is appropriate, but we must at least acknowledge the derivation. Or not. That's worked pretty well...
  6. Interesting point about the judge(s) in Chapala; though I hope to never need it! We consulted an attorney on our first lease since we knew neither the legal system nor Spanish. He confirmed one always has the legal right to pay in pesos regardless of what the contract says. Of course, that might not be the best way to build a good relationship with the landlord.
  7. The Kennons' videos were entertaining and informative while we sorted out which areas of Mexico to focus upon. We still watch them. The content and production quality improved a lot over the years. By the end, I think theirs were among the best travelogue style videos on YouTube. I'm saddened they will apparently no longer be producing content, but confident they'll find great happiness and success in their new endeavors. It's selfish, but I wish they'd have dropped a little more info on their decision and new path. But in the end those things are just that - theirs.
  8. I noticed La Paz was closed when we drove by about 11:30am today.
  9. We've used the Traitte app three times, though not yet for Vancouver Wings. It's fantastic. We appreciate the English option and the timely updates to let us know everything is on its way. It's taken 45 minutes from ordering to delivery each time. But they were all from Ajijic (or West Ajijic) to Riberas. No complaints here - except, yeah, fries are gonna be soggy every time.
  10. Thanks for the info. I second the endorsement of iShop. They've been nothing but kind and helpful. Most probably know this, but iShop will accept and hold a package of any reasonable size for only 30 pesos. Handy if you don't have a mailbox or aren't going to be home for a needed delivery.
  11. Ha! I think we're talking about the same ones. The two cranky guys in the balcony were Statler and Waldorf. Apparently, they were named in honor of two famous hotels in New York. I can't verify that, but their running commentary was my favorite part of the show.
  12. If so, I'll be in the balcony with Statler and Waldorf.
  13. That's an interesting possible connection. I haven't seen anything on the comparative age of those diagnosed or dying from Covid-19. I tried to google it but didn't see anything onpoint. Admittedly, I wasn't sure how to phrase the search. Do you recall, or does someone else know, the numbers or source for that? (Quarantine Disclosure - this is a legitimate question, not a snarky or doubting response :)
  14. Excellent points. Unfortunately, it was even worse than that. The US government, frustrated that its citizenry would not embrace Prohibition, ordered the poisoning of industrial alcohols which were being redistilled and consumed as substitutes to traditional booze, which had been largely outlawed. Up to 10,000 people are estimated to have died as a result. In the 1970s, the US government decided to extend this moralistic outreach to poisoning marijuana fields in neighboring Mexico until public outrage mandated a reconsideration. https://slate.com/technology/2010/02/the-little-told-story-of-how-the-u-s-government-poisoned-alcohol-during-prohibition.html What does this have to do with not allowing booze to be sold lakeside? Well, a government's fixation on control often leads to unanticipated, but entirely predictable and unfortunate, outcomes.
  15. I don't have our bill on hand but think it's between 370 and 400 for internet only. The speed isn't great (8 to 10 mbps) but it's been very reliable.
  16. Thanks to all of your input, I think we nailed this. We opted to offer a lunch on the final day. They were very appreciative. I figure some dusty chickens, or some tacos, plus some beers and we should be good. Thanks again.
  17. We hired a contractor to perform some renovations. He supplied and paid the workers. The crew was larger on some days, but two guys were onsite daily and did most of the work. The project, which took approximately seven weeks, is nearly finished. Would it be typical or expected of us to give a bonus (perhaps only to the two primary workers) and, if so, any ideas on the amount? Thanks.
  18. Over the past six months, we've had Wizz's 10mb package at two different homes in Riberas. Our actual speed runs between 8mb and 10mb (it was 9.21mb when I just checked). Obviously, that's not blazing. However, it's only been out twice and each time was less than an hour or two. The only downside for our applications is that large torrent files can take a while. Streaming (e.g., Netflix) and general internet usage is seamless. Good luck with whatever you choose!
  19. 1:00pm, or sometimes a bit earlier.
  20. "Just days before the one-year anniversary of a Mexican Supreme Court ruling that deemed the country’s prohibition of personal use or cultivation of marijuana unconstitutional, the judicial body granted an extension of a deadline it imposed on lawmakers to change the policy. The legislature now has until April 30, 2020 to pass reform legislation, whereas the previous mandate required action by Thursday." Source: https://www.marijuanamoment.net/mexican-supreme-court-grants-marijuana-legalization-deadline-extension/ I'm tempted to crack an easy joke about manana syndrome but, in fairness, they must be dealing with an insane number of competing interest groups and power brokers. Well, April is only six months away...
  21. My wife has tried a variety of gluten free breads from: (1) Pancho's Market in Riberas, (2) Superlake in San Antonio; and (3) the Monday Market at Sunrise Restaurant in San Antonio. The quality has been, based on her reports, pretty inconsistent. Be sure to check the refrigerated sections of the markets. Good luck, and welcome.
  22. Hopefully, this isn't too far off topic because we're having a similar problem. We recently bought Mexican SIM cards (Telcel) for our cellphones and are in the midst of switching over from our US provider (Verizon). Part of this includes changing our numbers for confirming/recovering email accounts, credit cards, banking stuff, etc. By that, I mean when an internet site doesn't recognize your computer (or whatever) and sends a text message to your cell phone with a password for you to use. Okay, here's the problem: none of our friends and family type in the same numbers to text us. Some have to start with +52, some with 0052, and some just start with the actual number. So, can anyone confirm what they've used for this purpose? We're reluctant to ditch Verizon until we know how that works. Thanks.
  23. I don't know the name of the place, but I recently had shorts altered at a lavanderia in San Antonio. Google Maps says the address is González Gallo 69. It's across the street and bit farther down (towards the square) from Mariscos Lety. The work was well done and reasonably priced.

    Malta &Grill

We wanted to try it. Went yesterday (i.e., a Saturday) at bit before 7:00pm. Google said it was open until 8:00pm. They were already closed but we heard what sounded like kitchen staff upstairs. Any idea of the actual hours?
