  1. My question was, do I need to continue contributing to her IMSS while the maid is a "no show."
  2. What happens if a maid, who is supposed to work once a week for 5 hours, decides not to show up. The employer does not need to pay her, but is the employer, by law, still responsible for her IMSS, etc. for that period of time? What happens if the employee does not show up for two or three weeks, or even a more extended period of time, without communicating with the employer? I have found this type a situation, more so with maids than with gardeners, where the excuse or explanation is I had to take my child to the dentist, or go the the child's school, or, or, or and on and on. Of course,
  3. Will this apply to part time domestic help and gardeners?
  4. I see an Ilox van and an Ilox person stringing up cable in Villa Nova.
  5. In 2002, El Torito used to have its bolillos in an uncovered basket, on a shelf close to the floor. I shopped at El Torito on a regular basis and bought my buns there. One day, someone brought their dog to the store. The dog lifted its leg and p**d on the bolillos. I do not shop at that store any longer.
  6. Our local Ajijic Walmart was out of stock lunchtime today. Oh well!
  7. When I go to my friends' home for a meal, their pets are kept away in a totally separate area than where they are wining and dining their guests. It has nothing to do with it being a FREE meal. These hosts know the meaning of courtesy and graciousness.
  8. Well. lunsdawgs, I hope you live up to your name and go to Emillia's restaurant often enough to compensate for those of us who won't. I vote with my pocket book and will not favor law breakers.
  9. The servers at a restaurant are not "petting" the soles of shoes. The soles of my shoes are not resting on the seats of chairs like some dog's asses. I am not stroking the soles of my shoes and sticking my hands into my food plate unlike owners of dogs who are feeding their pets. The soles of my shoes remain firmly on the ground where they belong. I've seen servers pet animals and then continue on to serve food without washing their hands first. If dog owners want to practice low levels of hygiene in their own homes, that is their prerogative. But they do not have a right to impose their habit
  10. I'm glad restaurants like Ajijic Tango and Fonda Dona Lola obey the law. Their business model works and they're doing just fine. Restaurants who break the law, who need to depend on dog lovers bringing their pets for business may not have the quality of food to compete for business. This is their way to compensate. I don't need to eat there. The law exists to enforce hygiene. What is the level of hygiene in these restaurants?
  11. Try Maskaras Clinic. Call them to see if they can X-ray the required area.

I had lamb shank at Pale. They call it osso bucco on the menu but it is lamb shank. It is an addition to their revised menu.
  13. You need to contact your own bank. That is also what HSBC will tell you.
  14. My maid, who was supposed to work one day a week, for five hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., never, ever showed up on time. She'd come any time between 9:45 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. but always left before 2:00 p.m. Her reason was the bus. Her pay was never docked. If I left the house, she would leave soon after. About once a month she would not show up at all, without calling or letting me know in advance. She did not get paid for those days. I got tired of her behavior and started making her sign for payments, noting date, arrival time and departure time. I made a note of days that she did not s
  15. This thread is about wages for maids which has morphed into tipping at restaurants. Why not leave the percentage of tipping up to individual discretion instead of arguing what is the correct amount in Mexico? No tipping in Canada does't mean no tipping required in Mexico. 20% tipping in the U.S. doesn't mean you have to do the same here. Do what you think is right.
  16. I just ordered a set of dishes from Amazon Mexico on a Wednesday night, using a US credit card. The cc company sent me an e-mail asking if this was my transaction. I clicked "yes." AmazonMx sent me an e-mail that the order was received and I would get my package the following Tuesday. I received an e-mail the following day (Thursday) informing me that I would received my package on Friday. When the package was shipped they informed me and I could track it's movement. It was delivered on Friday evening.

    Panettone at SL

The Costco panettone is the traditional one. Just don't be tempted to eat it all in one sitting.
  18. The orange and blue, plain colored sponges, are for wiping surfaces, e.g. kitchen counter tops. The other two, with the fancy designs, are for scrubbing dishes, and pots and pans. The textures are different. Superlake was out of the orange and blue type sponges, but have since restocked.
  19. Superlake has restocked this item. I bought some this afternoon.
  20. I am appalled when I see a dog's bottom resting on a chair seat or cushion which is meant for a person. The dog's owner may think its bottom is clean; I beg to differ. I don't want a naked human bottom on the seat, either. Both instances are unhygienic. I vote with my pocket book and my feet. There is no point complaining - nothing has changed in the 16 years I've lived here and it looks like nothing is likely to change. Owners who bring their dogs to restaurants think not only is their dog their best friend, it's their only friend. It's a sad situation for these owners and I feel sorry for th
  21. There are two restaurants that I go to very frequently, Ajijic Tango and Fonda Dona Lola, that do not allow pets. Both restaurants do very well. Ajijic Tango does not accept reservations at the weekend as they are too busy. Restaurants can do very well while following Mexican law.
  22. Jualberto Real (cell phone no. 331-026-5450) repaired my Whirlpool dishwasher and replaced the panel.
  23. I spoke with the Notario in Villa Nova and she informed me that she was not authorized to notarize my one page letter which is written in English.
  24. Does anyone have the telephone no. of the notario in Villa Nova? Thanks.
  25. Are his meds generic, branded or both. Thanks.
