An important factor in this discussion . . . in 2014 exchange rate was about 12 pesos to the US dollar . . . now that rate is pushing 20 pesos to the US dollar. That's about a 60% increase in value of the US dollar.

In the eight years I've lived down here I would guess; (and I mean guess)

    - gasoline  and propane have doubled in cost

    - restaurant meals are up 60 to 70%

    - groceries are up 50%

    - I don't know about rents. I own but electricity and water are probably up 50%

    - property taxes up 20 to 30 %.

and as tycobb said all of this offset by the peso decline

  2. I'm the Upper CV customer Computerguy is referring to.

After 8 years of 1.6 Mbps "service" from Telmex I can't tell you how delighted I am with the lightning ilox speeds. I have three other neighbors on my street who report the same speeds.

I have experienced one outage (a slowdown to Telmex speed) a week ago. The ilox NOC responded in literally seconds and the issue was fixed in a couple of minutes. Impressive technical support.

I could use some feedback from other ilox customers. I've heard their VOIP phone service is a bit spotty and before I port my Telmex number and cancel their service I wanted to hear that ilox now had fully reliable phone service. Any feedback please?

I just received a note from Tech Support at Ilox - only national numbers can  be ported, not foreign numbers.  They apparently do have the ability to provide a US number but you would have no control over what number you would be assigned.

Sounds like that ends my hope of saving my Canadian number. I think I'll just bail on MJ.

I'm still a little confused.... sometimes a normal situation for me.... about just what is going to be the results of this action. You will have, with your iLOX fiber, two phone numbers with two phones?  One a Lakeside Telmex # and the other another a Canadian phone #?

My  objective is to have my Telmex 376 exchange land-line number and my former MJ Canadian phone number on two separate wireless phone sets in my house connected to the ilox modem.

Tom says there are two phone jacks on the bg modem. Hope that helps RickS.

  5. Painfully I got confirmation from MJ that I can port the Canadian phone number I've been using for eight years over to ilox. I can finally dump MJ which has gotten quite expensive over the past few years. Telmex's dial-up grade service here in Chula Vista also made it sometimes difficult to use.

I just changed my MJ password over to a six digit PIN anticipating the port.

The savings will go a long way for ilox billing.

If you are looking to have just one number for everything, and I assume that precludes your cell phone, then only Magic Jack can tell you.

To clarify, as I understand it, iLox offers subscribers two phone lines. I wanted to port my existing Telmex number to one and my existing Majic Jack number to the second line.

That is if I live long enough to experience installation.

I'll call Majic Jack and post their response.
