  1. We have an exterior fountain set in the middle of an 8x4 foot pond..one foot deep. I thought it'd be nice to have some aquatic plants and flowers in the water. Can anyone offer suggestions as to what type of plants would be appropriate, and where I might source them? Thanks, Eric
  2. I found a link to a company (Vuelo Aventura) that offers ultralight flights on the carreterra Guadalajara/Jocotepec/Chapala but was unable to find the address on google Earth. Is this business still operational? Has anyone had experience taking a flight with them? Here's the link: https://www.yumping.com.mx/ultraligeros/vuelo-aventura--e19692827#app-layer-multisolicitud
  3. Across the street from us is a house that rents to weekenders from Guad that sometimes play loud music late into the night. Initially I was pretty bothered, but soon realized that there was nothing I could do to effect any change...that I was going to have to change my perspective or plan to be angry for a very long time. For the sake of my sanity, I now take the view that everyone has a right to celebrate joyously and I have no right to expect the world to conform to me. And when it's my turn to celebrate, or cut timber, or blow up the biggest, loudest fireworks that I can afford, I'll do so unencumbered by guilt but maybe with a little schadenfreud. The minute that I acknowledged their right to live unmolested, I was no longer angry and the music, though loud, wasn't accompanied by feelings of outrage and devious plots of revenge. A perceived violation of my "rights" was transformed from a life-altering event to a minor inconvenience. It's wonderful here now. Eric
  4. It interesting that for the past few days I've been exploring the requirements for obtaining a license to fly ultralight aircraft in Mx. I was thrilled to see an orange winged, single prop plane fly over my house in west Ajijic and hoped it would come back so I could get another look! He appeared to be flying at a couple hundred feet. What a beautiful sight!
  5. I regret that I sleep like a rock and miss most of the really good storms, but the night of this storm there was a clap of thunder so loud that I was certain lightening had struck directly outside our bedroom window. Scared the crap out of us! Five minutes later I was fast asleep.
  6. In Chapala, behind Soriana, four or five houses off Pepe Guizar and near the OXXO, is a feed store. Alfalfa, duck food, chicken food, dog and cat food, rostrojo, whole or split corn, salt blocks etc etc. I'm sorry I don't have a name or address, maybe someone else can provide that.
  7. UFC 202 is going to have a fantastic lineup and I really really want to see Brock Lesnar fight again. Are there going to be any venues showing this fight on August 20? Eric
  8. It has been lightly raining for a couple of hours here in La Cristina. Not much wind, only distant slow rolling thunder. I figure we must have caught the very edge of the storm. I don't own a TV but Internet service has been fine. Eric
  9. Whoa! $180 pesos doesn't even get you a hot dog?
  10. I thought VA payments were all direct deposit now? Mine shows up on the first of each month like clockwork. This is my first time hearing that social security needs to be informed when leaving the country for extended periods. I don't know why that would be the case since ssdi payments aren't affected by your physical location. Eric
  11. ROFL! I just woke up and this is the first thing I read. I'm still laughing! What a great way to start the day, thank you! Hahaha! Eric
  12. If you research Rapamycin you'll find that the anti-aging claims are backed by some pretty sound science. Definitely not snake oil. There are some very promising anti-aging therapies in the pipeline such as telomere lengthening and various senolytics, in addition to organ regeneration via stem cells and crispr gene editing therapies that have the potential to add a significant number of years of life. Life extension technology is increasing at an exponential rate and even we older folks will be able to benefit should we choose to be early adopters. If Rapamycin has even a fair chance of adding 5 or 10 years to my life with tolerable side effects then I'll take it. I've got only one life to live and I intend to drag it out it out as long as possible.
  13. The anti-aging/cancer drug Rapamycin's risk profile looks good in dogs and mice. Can Rapamycin be obtained Lakeside or in Guad? http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26568298 https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/02/160209105352.htm http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3577923/Could-miracle-drug-extend-life-results-anti-ageing-medical-trial-dogs-astonishing-says-scientist.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490
  14. Since Leslie doesn't post under this name, I see no reason that her good name should be sullied by my occasional impulsive or reactionary posts. I can't find a way to change my name. Is it even possible? Eric
  15. i posted this because I see an awful lot of this in this forum and I think it's helpful to understand what's driving it. My goal is to understand it, forgive it in others when it pisses me off, and to recognize my own capacity for pettiness, https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/20140627213331-6128092-the-petty-personality-psychtests-study-reveals-why-certain-people-tend-to-pick-fights People who are petty appear to pick meaningless fights without provocation or reason, but this is actually not true,” explains Dr. Jerabek, president of PsychTests. “There are multiple underlying causes for their tendency to lash out at others, and our research has highlighted some of them. Argumentative people feel more than just anger or frustration. They experience a lot of complicated, variable emotions, and don’t know how to analyze and regulate them. They are less comfortable with emotions in general, and most importantly, they are less self-aware. This results in an exaggerated response to minor issues … it seems out of the blue or petty to others, but in reality, they are reacting to something very real that is bothering them; they just don’t realize what that really is.”
  16. My bad. I had only been awake for five minutes. It doesn't bother me enough to edit it, and besides, the grammar police need entertaining too ?
  17. I don't remember asking this question before (early onset?) and I assure you that I'm not trolling. You presume to know quite a lot about about my life, who I am, and what motivates me. I promise you, you know nothing. Your hostility and arrogance indicates an unhealthy pathology and I'm concerned for you. Their are some really good therapists in the area that could help you feel better, if you PM me I can give you a good recommendation. Peace, Eric
  18. Is there any crime associated with the canacinta fishermen. Do they cause trouble, or do they just live and work?
  19. There appears to be a squatter camp on the beach at the bottom of La Cristina. What's the background story?

  21. Someone living here locally has asked me how she might find a long-term house rental in Guad proper, but I haven't a clue. Does anyone have any suggestions that I can pass on to her? Thanks, Eric
