  1. Sometimes, it is better to have an account at Multiva or Intercam to avoid the hassles of always relying on ATM's ,  which are unreliable !!   This is especially true when you are needing cash to pay for large projects or renovations.

That way, you can get money directly out of your bank account and not have to rely even on limits on Intercam or Multiva ATMs.

  2. It's a tough call.   I, too, mentioned the same three C's when I moved here.  Now it is a solid 1 1/2.  The one definite is the climate which you cannot beat !   The half is the cost of living.

Yes, healthcare is the big question mark here ( both the good and the bad quality and increased expense) but the rest of the cost of living is still definitely better than living in the States.  Private health insurance coverage for Expats here is like getting raped -- going up 35-40% a year with all the pre-existing conditions that insurance can not screw you with in Medicare.

All costs of living other than Medicare is through the roof in the States.  Every time I go back to visit family in the States confirms my thinking that the cost of living is through the roof there.

As for culture, I no longer count that as a plus since the corruption and the noise here have exhausted me.   The late or all night music and cohetes don't go along with my wish for quiet sleeping hours.  Then the divisiveness of the people up north is a too negative.  Everything I am seeing is too far left or right politically for me anymore up there !

Babyboomers have found and crowded all the best places to live in the world.  Just take a look at the traffic on our carretera and that will help confirm that!

  3. A group of us went last night and found very good food, pleasant management and good service at Elegante on Constitution.  As many of you probably know, Elegante is now under the management of Jose, also the owner of EL Ancla out in West Ajijic.

All of us enjoyed our food, with entrees such as lamb shank, beef arrachera, salmon, coconut shrimp and molcajete.  Also, some had good desserts such as Tiramisu and carrot cake.  Food and drinks were all good and reasonably priced.

I hope that more people will try Elegante since it looks like it could use more business. Only about a third of the tables were filled on a Friday night.

Jose, the owner, also has daily specials and will make Mexican meals ( like Chile rellenos, etc.) in addition to an already extensive menu.

  4. Buena suerte on that wish !!   Unfortunately, I don't see anything improving among the existing government mentality or consideration in sight at any level in Mexico.

On a local level, take a look how much money they wasted on the Auditorium in Ajijic.  That sure does not benefit the people who need help.  How many people will benefit from that-- a couple of hundred, and all Expats?

It is a shame how the  government abuses the MXN people and it all starts at the top !   ObraDOPE !!

  5. All I know is that both USTVGO and USTV247 are saying: Sorry we are closed.

Have had USTVGO only one week and even changed to Nord VPN to get all the stations on  it.  BUMMER !!!

Does anyone know if they are permanently gone or what is their status?

    Thanks.

  6. This is Mexico. You have to be realistic and not expect any extra services for the money.

For example , our public trash collectors went on strike because the govt did not pay them their last pay of the year nor Christmas bonus.  Maybe that money went into renovating the auditorium in Ajijic that what, maybe 300 citizens will benefit from-- and the Gov. of Jalisco came to dedicate. Talk about having priorites screwed up !!

VERY SAD govt. all the way from Federal to State to Chapala.

  7. The sad part is the erroneous writing in the Guadalajara Reporter when they say : "All Jalisco-plated vehicles are required to have the emissions test".  They fail to discuss anything about the exemptions for metro areas less than 100,000 population.

That falls into similar erroneous statements like:  "Chapala is increasing property taxes by 88% for 2023".  Luckily, so far we are not witnessing that steep of an increase.

Neither statement merits a paid subscription to the Guadalajara Reporter.    Sounds like AMLO is doing their writing: "TOTAL FICTION!"

  8. Mainecoons, I don't think you need a new SIM card.  The problem is the morons behing the counter at Oxxo.  WE have encountered the same problem frequently at Oxxo !! Half the time, the woman says "you want Amigo Sin Limite?"   We say NO ( because that is a plan),-- emphasize that you want " Amigo normal" for two months for 100 p cost."

Then when she rings it up with your phone number, make sure you don't leave the store until the phone dings that you have a message with the Amigo Normal on it.  So, be sure to take your phone with you and have it on.

If you renew Amigo Normal within 24 hours of the expiration of your current two months, then you should not lose the minutes you have accumulated.  They carry over with Amigo Normal.  Good luck
