Did you have an expired license?  We have been to Plaza Las Torres twice, really early and the lines were about 400 people long, came back home. Our licenses expire 6th of May.  Just curious if we should make an appointment which according to you and the website won't be for 20 days, after expiration.  Any thoughts?

My license was expired 1 month. This was in no way an issue when I renewed.

  2. You can make an appointment to renew your Jalisco driver license. People with appointments go to a separate facility in Guad that does not accept walk-ins on appointment days. You need to show up 10 minutes before your time and not be late. When I was there the guard at the door would not allow anyone but the appointee inside, no facilitators/translators. (However, when the guards changed some minutes later, the new guard allowed a translator person to enter.)  I suggest you don't try this appointment method if you are illiterate. There were 5 stations to progress thru, each with a specific purpose. They were very efficient. At the payment station I showed my INAPAM card to the "guard" and I was immediately sent to the head of the line (there were about 15 people waiting).  It took me 39 minutes from the time I walked in on Tuesday until I left with license in hand. I had to wait 20 days for my appointment, as the reservation system works 20 days ahead. From what I understand, but did NOT confirm, you have 90 days to renew after your license expires. When I made my appointment I carried a copy of it in my car.

Why pay a commission to pay bills? You can pay CFE using the CFEContigo app, you can pay Telmex directly on their site and you can buy airtime at any ATM or from your Mexican bank account's website.

Thanks, oregontochapala!  Never used to be able to use non-Mexican cards or PayPal.  I just paid my CFE using a foreign card.

  4. I just tried using this service.  I registered (email and pick a password), then successfully paid my Telmex bill. The service is NOT free. They charged a small commission of $8 to handle the transaction, which is about what OXXO would charge. I also got a message that it would take 24 to 48 hours for the transaction to post.

You can also pay CFE and others. The program is smart. You enter a company name and your account number and it retrieves the amount you owe.

Allowing dogs into restaurants is widely practiced in Europe.

I never see this in Europe, particularly in Italy.  Where are you talking about, Harry?

  6. At the Chopo next to Dermika, the Chopo sign is gone and now it says ISILAB. Their on line ad says "New lab in Ajijic" and makes no mention of Chopo. Going online to Chopo, they make no mention of Ajijic, just Riberas. So, it seems they have reverted to ISILAB.

Are you sure that your solar panels are clean, and producing as they should? A bit of dust and bird droppings will reduce their efficiency.

Well, in 6 years I've never cleaned them, and energy production has been remarkably consistent year-to-year until now.  Maybe the last 3 months have been abnormally dirty?-- kinda like a 100 year event of dirtiness? Anyway I check the inverter now and then and output is as expected, so cleanliness or lack thereof is not the culprit. Something is afoot at CFE if you ask me.

  8. My solar kW credit balance no longer appears on my bill. It's been that way for the last 2 or 3 bills. And my bill amount, which has been 46p every bill for years, is now over 300p. Our consumption has not changed. We were always producing more than we used.

What do you mean your CURP card, we don't get hard copies, you can only print it off the computer as far as I know.

I printed mine off the computer and had it laminated (which most any papeleria will do for 2 or 3 pesos). That was accepted with no problem when I renewed.

Thanks again. I guess you have to be prepared for anything. I know a guy that did it here and after registering with a local doctor he also had to go to Guadalajara to register with the hospital there in case he needed to use that hospital at some point.

I went to the SJC clinic after I originally enrolled and was told there was nothing more to do (despite what other people have posted about this which no doubt is true for where they are). But it was good to go to look around, see the set up, get the hours, etc.

Thanks for the info El Bizco.  Did you need an appointment at the Jocotopec hospital to get the renewal or is a walk in ok?

You just walk in. I went at 2pm and there was no line at all. Took me less than 5 minutes. The window closes at 3pm. The documents I was asked for were exactly what I posted above.

I sent you a PM  It was requesting the same information Cedros asked for.  I don't know why it did not go through.

For Seguro Popular renewal you need to bring:
    1. Original and copy of your resident visa, or IFE voter card/ID if a citizen.
    2. Proof of address and a copy. A utility bill will do, doesn't have to be in your name.
    3. Your CURP card and a copy.

  13. "Cataract lens replacement is a piece of cake." I have had 2 friends who were blinded by botched cataract surgery. I prefer put it off or hopefully not at all.

I am blind in 1 eye from this. Also, once you have cataract surgery you are at a 25% higher risk of retinal detachment. Be sure to ask your doctor about this! 2 years after the surgery both my retinas detached within a 3 month period. I'm lucky I can see at all. But cataract lens replacement IS a piece of cake as RV says, and when your cataracts get really bad you pretty much have to do the surgery despite the risks. It is really, really important to get the right person to do the surgery. I thought I had the best.
