  1. Visa Expiration During COVID These are temporary programs and not all Inmigracion offices may implement. This process is available in San Miguel and where else, I do not know. 1. Visa Expires When in Mexico You may renew a Temporary Resident visa which has expired. There is no fine. There is no penalty. 2. Visa Expires When Outside of Mexico You may renew a Temporary Resident visa which has expired. There is no fine. There is no penalty. However, it is critical, when entering Mexico, that you complete an FMM and you must not mark tourist and best not to check any category and no stamp by Immigration staff. You must convince the immigration officer at your point of entry not to enter you as a tourist on their computers. If this happens you will be a tourist and you will need to start over at a Mexican consulate. www.soniadiaz.mx
  2. Do you really think they did not weigh this option? Plus they have dogs and it is summer time.
  3. The problem with anything medically related including medicines, sprays, vitamins, etc is they are held up at Aduana. What they want is clearance through COFEPRIS which is kin to the FDA and Health Canada. This includes scientific studies etc. For an individual it is impossible.
  4. Their vehicles, trailer and extensive belongings are in Canada. While they thought of this option it is a major hardship according to them.
  5. TEMPORARY RESIDENT PROCESS STARTED WITHIN MEXICO If your FMM tourist card expired and it has been renewed in Mexico under a humanitarian process you may apply for a Temporary Resident visa without leaving Mexico. The renewal will be for 1, 2 or 3 years. It is up to Inmigracion staff to determine how many years. These are higher financials vs what is required at a Mexican consulate. Only a few INM offices will allow this process. I have submitted 4 processes with INM in San Miguel as we "test" the process. 6. It means Canadians may not drive to Mexico as they are not allowed to enter the US by car. Some are desperate as even their house has sold and they have no where to live.
  7. There is little chance of it clearing Aduana.
  8. Actually, for months their web site indicated only open for emergencies and one could not make an appointment through SRE for the MX consulate in Laredo. The last time I tried to make an appointment for a client was Friday using SRE's web site and it was not possible. I also asked on their FB page on Thursday when they may open and they did not respond. Based on a post yesterday on Expats in Mexico i was informed they are now taking appointments for August so I believe starting this month they are scheduling appointments which is great as I have more than ten clients waiting to go. Even now when one goes to their web site they talk about emergencies and the page for types of visas remains blanks. If you have more up to date information please share.

  11. This is a email I received in Spanish (and I translated) from the head of the visa department at the Mexican consulate in Austin. In includes the financial qualifiers for a pre-approved temporary and permanent resident visa. Dear Sonia: I greet you with pleasure. Indeed many people I have interviewed at the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin as part of their visa application to reside in Mexico have mentioned your name. In fact, last week an American couple who processed her visa gave me your book, since they had two copies. I understand that it has become a bible for foreigners looking to retire in Mexico, because unfortunately it is often difficult to find accurate information in English. I myself have been learning about the subject, as I have hardly been in charge of the visa department for a few months, so the experiences of foreigners are very useful to me. Regarding the financial solvency requirements for temporary and permanent residence, I share them below. I would like to mention that it is common for these to change since the amounts that a foreigner must verify are linked to the minimum wage in Mexico City. In January of this year, the minimum wage increased by about 20%, which affected the minimum amounts to verify financial solvency. Likewise, they are also subject to the exchange rate between the Mexican peso and the US dollar: Temporary residence: Original and photocopy of bank statements or savings accounts of the last 12 months showing a monthly final balance of $ 28,000 dollars Original document and photocopy of Social Security that proves a monthly income per pension of $ 1,670 dollars for the last 6 months, as well as bank statements to verify the deposit of said salary or pension. In the case of salary, they must be accompanied by an employment verification letter specifying their seniority in the position and their salary, as well as pay slips. Possession of real estate in national territory: original and copy of Public Deed granted before a Notary Public that proves that the foreign person is the owner of real estate, with a value that exceeds $ 222,000 dollars. Permanent residence: Original and photocopy of bank statements or savings accounts of the last 12 months showing a monthly final balance of $ 111,000 dollars. Original document and photocopy of Social Security that proves a monthly income per pension of $ 2,770 dollars for the last 6 months, as well as bank statements to verify the deposit of said salary or pension. Permanent resident visas can only be processed by retired people, that is, those who are over 62 years old and receive a Social Security pension, or who are under 62 years old and receive a pension from their last job (for example: from the army, teachers association, government offices, etc.). In the case of the person you mention, there is no "prior approval" as such, but you can contact me directly to request a visa and I will respond by sending you the requirements and steps to follow. I hope this information is helpful to you. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions. Many greetings, José Manuel Murillo Consul in charge of the visa department
  12. Each consulate has a FB and web site. Laredo is closed. I recommend Austin where I have clients being approved weekly. Others include El Paso, Del Rio, Boston, Atlanta, etc.To enter Mexico, the border never closed. José Manuel Murillo Consul in charge of visas department mexicoenaustin@sre.gob.mx jmurillov@sre.gob.mx
  13. What you were told was correct. FYI an adult child may sponsor an adult parent.
  14. Yes, they are respecting visas that expired as far back as in April. I am now using the humanitarian process for renewals. At first there were 3 fees. 16. TEMPORARY RESIDENT PROCESS STARTED WITHIN MEXICO - Revised This is a Federal INM directive. However, some INM offices may not implement. This is doable in San Miguel de Allende. If your FMM tourist card expired and it has been renewed in Mexico under an humanitarian process you may apply for a Temporary Resident visa without leaving Mexico. The renewal will be for 1, 2 or 3 years. It is up to Inmigracion staff to determine how many years. These are higher financials vs what is required at a Mexican consulate. 17. From my web site: Who May Drive Your Foreign Plated Car in Mexico? Vehicles with Temporary Import Permits may be driven in Mexico by the importer, their spouse, their parents, grandparents, brothers or sisters, children, grandchildren even though they are not foreigners or by a foreigner who is a Tourist or Temporary Resident without the permit holder in the vehicle. Or, by a Mexican National when, whichever of the prior persons authorized to drive are in the vehicle. This means if car permit is in the name of a Temporary Resident, that person's spouse even if a Permanent Resident or a Mexican national can drive the foreign plated vehicle without the person in whose name is the car permit being in the vehicle. It also mean a Mexican national such as a maid, gardener, mechanic, bellhop, etc can not drive your vehicle without the TIP holder in the car. In the case, if caught cars have been confiscated plus fines.
  18. The worse case scenario is go to the airport a little earlier than normal. The airline may ask that you have a current FMM. If so, they will direct you to immigration nearby to pay 575 pesos for another FMM.
  19. For a 2015 take the vehicle to Aduana and show them the documents to "nationalize" but have a taxi waiting. So go ahead and have your friend prove us wrong.
  20. A client from Chapala obtained her new 180 TIP after picking up her new FMM yesterday.
  21. Client just pad $3500 US to nationalize a 2011 Ford Explorer. On my web site under vehicles is some info re nationalizing and the web site of one of the few honest brokers.
  22. In San Miguel, as soon as a FMM has expired I can apply for a new FMM good for 180 days. If you have a car with a TIP that has expired, as soon as you have your new FMM you may obtain a new car permit at Aduana at in Queretaro. None of this is possible in Chapala nor Guadalajara. In PV and Rivera Nayarit, Teresa is able to obtain new FMM's starting the first day of expiration.
