The problem with anything medically related including medicines, sprays, vitamins, etc is they are held up at Aduana. What they want is clearance through COFEPRIS which is kin to the FDA and Health Canada. This includes scientific studies etc. For an individual it is impossible.

Their vehicles, trailer and extensive belongings are in Canada. While they thought of this option it is a major hardship according to them.

Investments ~$112,000 US / $154,000 C (20,000 days x minimum wage 123.22) with 12 months of individual statements, or Monthly income ~$2404 US / $3080 C (400 days x minimum wage 123.22) employment or pension showing 6 months of bank statements, or · Offer of employment There is a review fee of 1325 pesos plus the regular Temporary Resident fees and the amount depends if your application is approved for 1, 2 or 3 years. My fee is 3000 pesos. Certified translation may be anywhere from 1000 to 2500 pesos depending how many pages. Process time for your visa is about 11 weeks. It means Canadians may not drive to Mexico as they are not allowed to enter the US by car. Some are desperate as even their house has sold and they have no where to live.

Actually, for months their web site indicated only open for emergencies and one could not make an appointment through SRE for the MX consulate in Laredo. The last time I tried to make an appointment for a client was Friday using SRE's web site and it was not possible. I also asked on their FB page on Thursday when they may open and they did not respond. Based on a post yesterday on Expats in Mexico i was informed they are now taking appointments for August so I believe starting this month they are scheduling appointments which is great as I have more than ten clients waiting to go. Even now when one goes to their web site they talk about emergencies and the page for types of visas remains blanks. If you have more up to date information please share.

From my web site: Who May Drive Your Foreign Plated Car in Mexico? Vehicles with Temporary Import Permits may be driven in Mexico by the importer, their spouse, their parents, grandparents, brothers or sisters, children, grandchildren even though they are not foreigners or by a foreigner who is a Tourist or Temporary Resident without the permit holder in the vehicle. Or, by a Mexican National when, whichever of the prior persons authorized to drive are in the vehicle. This means if car permit is in the name of a Temporary Resident, that person's spouse even if a Permanent Resident or a Mexican national can drive the foreign plated vehicle without the person in whose name is the car permit being in the vehicle. It also mean a Mexican national such as a maid, gardener, mechanic, bellhop, etc can not drive your vehicle without the TIP holder in the car. In the case, if caught cars have been confiscated plus fines.

The worse case scenario is go to the airport a little earlier than normal. The airline may ask that you have a current FMM. If so, they will direct you to immigration nearby to pay 575 pesos for another FMM.

For a 2015 take the vehicle to Aduana and show them the documents to "nationalize" but have a taxi waiting. So go ahead and have your friend prove us wrong.

In San Miguel, as soon as a FMM has expired I can apply for a new FMM good for 180 days. If you have a car with a TIP that has expired, as soon as you have your new FMM you may obtain a new car permit at Aduana at in Queretaro. None of this is possible in Chapala nor Guadalajara. In PV and Rivera Nayarit, Teresa is able to obtain new FMM's starting the first day of expiration.
