  1. I heard that as well, for general cancers but better for some others.

I will look into Tomosynthesis, for what runs in my family.

I have heard Banuelos recommended (today) and you are yet another one to give a thumbs up on them.... very good!

Thanks so much for all the info.

I would do some further research on Thermographic screening. There was a study done (2012)
by the American Cancer Society showing that it was not as good as a mammo.
I believe also that in the States it is mandatory for Dr's to inform their
patients with dense breasts that a mammo may not show cancer since the dense
tissue and cancer shows white. Tomosynthesis with a mammo/ultrasound would be a
    better alternative.

Banuelos in Guad is one of the best facilities for woman, very good Dr.'s - mammo,
tomosynthesis, ultrasound, bone density etc. My GYN of 4 years here (Dr. Iliana Ramos) has always
recommended them above all others. They offer a package price when having several
procedures done. You can request same day results also.

If you want the address, phone number just let me know. It is very easy to get to and
    they have parking.

    Good Luck

  2. History of Breast Cancer in my family.

I would like recommendations, specifically for:

Guadalajara breast specialists & Thermographic Breast Screening / Ultrasound Screening resources.

FYI: Why a Thermographic Breast Screening? This can detect breast abnormalities 8-10 years before a mammogram. This is a radiation free screening method which will increase chances of detecting breast cancer at an early stage.

PS: I would also welcome company if another woman would desire testing and would be interested in driving in with me to Guad for these tests.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP!

  3. Hello MtnMama,

Good to know and thanks for the notation on the alternative pharmacia.

I was on bio-identicals NOB recommended by my physician when I did a little research and said no more horse urine. Portimom, I haven't been to them but have heard good things about the clinic and alternative pharmacia across from SuperLake.

  4. You can never research something too much in regard to something as potentially hazardous as medication. That research also applies to the many herbal treatments which are out there. That said; For those interested in this subject and/or, Dr John Lee's work and opinion on estrogen/progesterone, you may find this to be of interest:

Bioidentical Estrogen - How Much and When by Dr John Lee

A little goes a long, long way.

    By John R. Lee, M.D.

I get many questions about what dose of estrogen to use. My favorite answer is, “the lowest dose possible that will relieve symptoms,” but I understand that you need more specific information.

Keep in mind that the information I’m giving you here is a starting point. From here you want to track your symptoms and saliva hormone levels, until you find the optimal dose. Be aware that your optimal dose could change. As you age, if you gain or lose weight, substantially change your diet or start taking other hormones or medications, your need for estrogen can increase or decrease.

There are three major estrogens made by humans: estrone, estradiol and estriol. Estriol has great benefit to the cells of the vagina, but has little effect on breasts or bone. The good news about that is that it doesn’t seem to promote breast cancer, and may even be protective against it. The bad news is that it doesn’t help retain bone. However, if a woman has vaginal dryness and/or vaginal cell atrophy, estriol is the best estrogen to use. The recommended dose is just 0.5 mg twice weekly in a cream, applied vaginally... (for complete article go to link: http://www.virginiahopkinstestkits.com/bioidenticalestrogen.html )

  5. Lakeside7,

    Thanks for your help!

I am a fan of Dr. John Lee's work (several books out about bio-identicals) and the differences between different treatment for HRT. I do appreciate your side note though, so thank you. Physicians typically reach for RX/Pharm, and indeed they attempted that with me prior to any symptoms. If I had not questioned and researched, then I would have placed myself in a situation of being on unopposed estrogen, which Dr Lee believed created a strong risk for breast cancer and reproductive cancers. So, if viewing it that way, indeed there is a greater risk if one were to simply take estrogen replacement therapy alone.

Lowest dose possible was always the rule, and so much easier to adjust using the creams. Even Dr Lee acknowledges (for he recommends progesterone, not estrogen) that certain symptoms (not mentioned here lol) are clear signs of estrogen deficiency.

So I am going to use just enough to balance out my levels, while reviewing results (panels/levels) with a physician and/or labs.

I would recommend Dr John Lee's books to anyone, in fact they are yet another item that was left NOB, and will have to be reordered via ebay! I truly thought I was past the menopause blitz, lol, but ahhhh life has surprises!

I hear that the Medical Group in The Pemex/Libramiento Shopping Center have a Gynecologist on staff

"""""But according to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), there have been no large long-term clinical trials that have studied their safety and effectiveness. ACOG believes that compounded bio-identical hormones should be considered to carry the same risks as FDA-approved drugs, such as those uncovered in the WHI study, and possibly even more."""

  6. Hi Lakeside7,

I had so many tests done in the states, and also saliva tests. I am aware of their value.

I was on bio-identicals, and will most likely have a panel done just to track my levels.

Right now I would like to find the bio-identicals and do a minimal dose (as that was what

served me best when in the states).

Do you have recommendations for any physicians who are well versed in using bio-identicals?

    Thanks for your help!

Why not a visit to a local doctor or IMSS or SP and establish correct meds needed?

  7. Thank you RV, and I do realize that Prmarin is available lakeside.

I am wondering though, where to purchase Bio-identicals (not premarin)

    and that includes progesterone.

I was taking bio-identicals in the states, some time back.

    Thanks for your help.

He means the pharmacy, whose name is Farmacia Similares. Other farmacias will have it also, if you ask for Premarin generico.

  8. cheapest at the west most Similaries in Ajijic. They may have to order it and get in a couple of days.

What do you mean at the west? Are you saying there is a specific place here that has bio-identicals (verses Premarin)?

Similaries = Pharmacies? I am not familiar with that term Similaries.

    Thanks for your input!

  9. Which pharmacy is your source for bio-identical estrogen(and progesterone)?

Which brand / do you ask that source for? (I would like exact information, and what it says on package (eg mg, manufacturer etc)

Which physicians are fully informed of their use?

Did you take the bio-identical progesterone and estrogen together?

Thank you! ( Information from all welcome. )

You can get bio-identical progesterone and estrogen topical gels here, imported from France. I found them to be quite effective and it's easier to tweak the dose with a gel than a pill.

I did a lot of research on hormone replacement about 20 years ago. Premarin is one of the cancer causing hormone drugs. It's name comes from PREgnant MARe's urIN. That's right - pregnant mare's urine. The mares are bred in horrible conditions, and kept nearly constantly pregnant so they will excrete certain hormones in their urine. 17 horse hormones are used in this drug, along with an artificial molecule of something to make the formula unique and patentable. Is this really what you want to put in to your body?

Progestin is an artificial version of progesterone which is the actual human hormone and is not expensive. The Big Pharma companies hype their products for profit while the bio-identical hormones are actually quite inexpensive. Big Pharma can't make a Big Profit off of them because natural human hormones are not patentable. Good luck!

I'd find a good, alternative doctor here to help you with this!

    • Thanks 1
  10. I just wanted to point out to Portimom (who thought new clients pay "much more") that the difference between what Lupe regularly charges was just 60 pesos more than the long-time client pays. He then took 20 pesos off each massage because there were two in the same house.

That 60 pesos is about $4 US more than an existing client pays for a one-hour massage. With the quantity discount, the charge was around $2.50 US more. Considering also that Lupe traveled to Ajijic to do the in-home massages, there is no way I would consider that Portimom paid "much more" as a new client.

Ah, so Ajijic runs a bit more due to being further from him. Thanks for that info!

Quite frankly, if the massage had helped either of us, as in a deep tissue massage... I would have continued, despite that being more.

I just felt I should be responsible in posting my feedback. When someone is in need of deep tissue, they wait for their massage day eagerly, for it really makes a world of a difference. I hope that this feedback helps others like myself, who are trying to find the right massage therapist!

  11. I have been looking for a massage in home person for some time. So I decided to try Lupe. If good, I'd have him come regularly.

I had an in home (Ajijic) massage with Lupe Jan / 2015. He charged 200.00 x 2 (said there was a discount for two in home, and normally charges 220.00 per person) The price was disappointing after having read this here. New clients pay much more?

The massage was very LIGHT (VS. any deep tissue) I gave him a 10% tip on top of that, and will find another person for home massage that can do a firmer (deep tissue for back) massage. PS I did request deep tissue on certain areas, and it was not that type of massage.

After our massage, I worked on my husband to relax his tight muscles... which were not helped. My massaging him, reduced that tension greatly, where the massage therapist didn't. Massaging him regularly (because his shoulder will take time to come to itself) , is work for my shoulders (leaves me sore). Thus, I am still looking for that massage therapist!!!!

  12. Re: Lupe massage, see my new comment at end of thread.

I guess he doesn't go up much for old clients, but the new pay a lot?

Lupe is a professional and even continues taking courses and courses in homeopathic. He gives you the type of massage you need not just a "lala". Why would anybody go somewhere when it's so nice and relaxing to get it in your own home? He was charging me $150p/hr and after a few years of that I now offered him $160 which he reluctantly accepted. He is less if you want to go to his office in Chapala.

  13. It is extras like this that can confuse... so I've concluded (Thanks to the wonderful people here) the simple 33 followed by the 8 digit phone number is best.

045 when dialing a cell phone in a different area code from your land line and 044 when dialing the same area code - it's really not that hard.

That will depend upon where you are calling from and whether you are calling from a celular or a fixed phone. Folks know which to use.

Wait! What about the 045 or 044 one has to put BEFORE the area code and phone number when dialing form a land line? I know we do 045 at Lakeside but what do you put in Guadalajara? And what about in other areas of the country>

  14. Thank you! This project is complete, thanks to all of you... much appreciated!

    I suggest the following:

    MX: 33-0000-0000

    US: 610-000-0000

    DO IT THAT WAY.

Since you've said this is for use within Mexico, there is absolutely no reason to include the country code. In fact, I'd be willing to bet the majority of Mexicans don't even know what the country code is for Mexico. (Why would they?)

Doesn't much matter how you do the US phone #. Nobody is going to dial it (unless you're putting it there to cover your time while still in the US).

    What Travis Said.

  15. I need a shorter understandable version.

    Will the following work:

    +52-1-33-0000-0000

    or is this better:

    Cell: 33-0000-0000

    USA 1-610-000-0000

No, it is not correct. The area code (LADA) for Guadalajara is 33. It is NOT 331. You need to separate the LADA from the telephone number. 33-1000-0000. I know it still 'seems' the same, but it is NOT the same. For example, if your dog gets out of your car and disappears in Guadalajara, a person in Guadalajara will not generally understand if the first numbers are 331. It's a TWO digit area code and an EIGHT digit phone number. The Guadalajaran will only need to call eight digits, without the LADA.

  16. No, it is not correct. The area code (LADA) for Guadalajara is 33. It is NOT 331. You need to separate the LADA from the telephone number. 33-1000-0000. Leave the 1 in the number if you leave the 52.

    52 = Mexico code

    1 = Long distance

    33 = Guadalajara area code

In other words, put the number on the collar just the way the phone company gave it to you. Folks will know how to use it.

First: The line for the inscription is limited to 18 spaces on the first line

16 spaces on the second line

18 spaces on the third line

I have to alter it to have that number fit into 18 spaces.

The number untouched goes like this: 011 +52-1-33-0000-0000 and exceeds that allowance.
    See comment to Liana below
    Thanks
  17. Do it like that. Or like this: 33 10 00 00 00. Or like this: 3310000000. Format doesn't really matter. Mexicans are fluent in cell phone. But you want ten digits total. The rest of it is if your dialing from outside the country. 52 is the country code for Mexico, etc.

I am going to list both a US phone number and a Mexican phone number on those tags.

Either will work in Mexico, because the US number is a call forwarding number that will just go to my Mex cell number.

I want to differentiate between the two.

I might just do it like this as long as it wont confuse:

    MX+52-331-000-0000

    USA+1-714-000-0000

Is that clear enough for locals?

    Thanks

  18. So how would I print a number on a dog collar, so that it is understandable/not confusing?

I just received my phone number today and it reads in a format that appears like this:

    +52-1-33-1000-0000

Would it be better to print it like this:

    331-000-0000 or yet another way?

In fact as I look closer there appears to be an extra digit ... a 1

I wonder if that is what is usually not showing when I see the ten digit numbers alongside of an +52

At any rate if that extra 1 is not suppose to be there when dialing from Mexico, then the example for phone

number would look like this instead: +52-331-000-0000

Is that the correct format and thinking on that?
