  1. That phone number does not seem to be correct. Anyone have another?
  2. Saw the matinee this aft, and it was wonderful. Bravo does great work and finds very interesting shows.
  3. Well, it wouldn't due to post that, would it?
  4. There's something being missed when it comes to prices. Many restaurants are doing well, and as a result, when their lease comes up the landlord wants some of those pesos. They raise the rent, and, guess what, the prices go up. The Ajijic pizza place, Garlic Brothers (?) closed or moved because the landlord wanted more than they could afford. I also think Wookie's points regarding both quality and creativity are well taken. I'm looking forward to trying the place.

    Elena's

It's a very large place, much larger than. it looks, so I don't thin a medium group will be a problem. I like the place, and the prices are excellent.
  6. First thing I do when I get up North, well, maybe second, is go to Duff's Wings on Bayview in Toronto. They know what they're doing.
  7. Eric is right. There are several web sites like that. I use http://myfax.com/free/sendfax WHOOPS. Looks like they changed from free.
  8. I have no mobility issues and have to use great caution in Ajijic. The cobblestones make it tricky for eeveryone - always ;look down!
  9. First, steam cleanng is good *unless* you have a pillow mattress. If you do, you'll destroy the feathers. Amazon sells some matress covers that supposedly are so tight nothing gets through the You might investigate that.
  10. Since it sounds like no one was hurt in the robberies, why not just get a large dog.
  11. I'd like to recommend Ajijic Tree Service. Generally half the price of CTS. It's a family business run by local brothers. They've done a lot of work for me with all the right permits. Ask for Francisco, ‭(333) 452-9843‬.
  12. Can I sell a Canadian plated car in Mexico? I'm Temporale.
  13. I've had luck with Uber. And a local guy (Chapala) gave me his contact info so I can get him directly. Since i'd met him that seemed fine.
  14. OK. Since I what I wanted on the web, I wrote to my friend who is a linguist at a University in Michoacan. This was his response: Criada has a very bad bias. Like slavery. People being servants. Even living in the house most of the time. They are supposed to follow exact instructions without questioning. Criada refers to "criar" raise. Historically poor people gave their child to rich people to be raised (criados). In exchange, they were servants. Me again. This is why the term comes from the verb "criar" which means to raise. Sorry, but this is what happens when you're a philosophy professor (emeritus.)
  15. Sorry - been busy. I stand my my statement about criada, and accept the correction to limpia. And I would marry my maid, but she won't have me.
  16. First, "criada" is not used. It has connotations that are not nice. I use mia mujer que llave. Ipay her $550 per week. She's supposed to work 9 hours but always works a bit more than 10. It's also worth remembering that 10 pesos is c$0.68, so 50 is 3.40, or US$2.50.
  17. I have read that a good way to retrieve a lost cat is to place their litter box outside. Apparently they can smell it from great distances. If they are lost this can be a great help.
  18. I keep about $15 in my Skype account, and can use it at a few cents a minute to call any 1-800.
  19. I'm a snowbird. I would like to politely request that the entire group not be lumped together as one large, loud, rude, uncultured mass. I have owned a house is Ajijic longer than many full-timers have heard of the place. Our personal family situation means that a] I have had to delay my retirement, and b] still cannot come down full-time. Yes, there are many people who have no sense of what Mexico is about, make no effort to change or learn the language, and want Ajijic to become Carmel, CA. I wish they would leave, regardless of how much time they spend in our wonderful aldea.
  20. There's no reason to avoid overnight in Mexico. There's town called Matehuela a couple hours from the border that takes pets. Here's there info: Hotel Las Palmas Midway Inn\nKm 617, Matehuala, Mexico Tel: 01(488) 882-0001, 882-0002, 881-0435 Staying there puts you an easy day's drive from Chapala.
