  1. I agree that online is preferrable for most business these days, but there are some things that can't be dealt with online. I found that out when my wallet was stolen and my Mexican and Canadian debit cards needed to be cancelled and in the case of my Canadian card, a new one couriered.
  2. 24 years ago the plus sign wasn't used. I don't think it was used in place of 00 until a couple of years ago, but if others know different, feel free to correct me.
  3. Worth a try, but there are banks and other entities which do not, in fact, have any non-toll free numbers listed. Been through that.
  4. The plus sign goes before the 1, not after. +1 or 001. The plus sign is equivalent to the 00. They are usually interchangeable. My neighbor's calls to the US weren't connecting with +1, so he tried 001 and it worked, who knows why.
  5. Human trafficking does not necessarily involve transporting people, or selling them to someone who takes them away. It can be, and is often, revoltingly, a matter of poverty stricken families basically pimping out their children to foreign pedophiles who go specifically to places where they know this is prevalent and they can get away with their criminal behavior.
  6. Sod may be treated with weed killers and other nasty chemicals.
  7. Human trafficking is indeed a cause for concern regardless of the scale of it. Unfortunately, it happens all over the world. But thanks for correcting that- Mexico is not anywhere near the top of the list and while it is more common in poverty stricken areas of the world, it happens in the first world, too. https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/human-trafficking-statistics-by-state
  8. I wasn't referring to Jorge, but to what bmh had said about other physios not giving you what Jorge does, so one would tend to forget what they were told to do.
  9. That's when a pen and paper come in handy. I'd forget half the stuff I had to do if I didn't write it down.
  10. And where did you come up with that bit of misinformation?
  11. Reality check- there have been 204 mass shooting incidents in the US so far in 2020 (and we aren't even halfway through the year), spanning 32 states. While some were targeted shootings, where innocent bystanders got shot, many were simply mass shootings committed by mentally deranged individuals. At least in Mexico, we don't have nutcases with guns opening fire in a Walmart to kill random shoppers or kids showing up at school with an assault weapon massacring their classmates and teachers.
  12. No. FYI words have definitions that you can look up in the dictionary if you don't know the meaning of them.
  13. You miss the point. If other countries put out advisories about crime in the US like the US state dept. does, no one would ever entertain the thought of going there. Mexico has 32 states. That advisory list is falsely telling people that 50% of Mexico, 16 entire states, are unsafe for travel, which is absurd.
  14. Do you realize that companies have websites that list their locations, phone numbers, addresses, and Google maps to their outlets? Sherwin Williams does and I found it in 5 seconds by typing Sherwin Williams Ajijic into a Google search.
  15. When they first posted, they were asked some simple questions that most people would want to know about potential housesitters, such as if they spoke Spanish, or had done housesits in Mexico before. They responded arrogantly, as if how dare anyone question their ability to be anything other than stellar housesitters, able to handle any situation that might come up. A person who really wanted to housesit and present themselves well would have answered along the lines of "We understand a little Spanish, and we have house sat in other Spanish speaking countries without difficulty" or "We have a smattering of Spanish. Do you think it necessary Lakeside to speak fluent Spanish in order to be able to handle anything that might come up? We were under the impression that English was widely spoken in the area, so hadn't considered that would be an issue."
  16. I believe you can also check the status on their website.
  17. So now you're judging who people you don't know are because you don't like their responses? I would never employ housesitters with your condescending attitude.
  18. Stop playing dumb just so you can act like you're smart and superior. No one, including me, when mentioning climate-change deniers, means the deniers are saying the climate has never changed. Obviously we are talking about man-made climate change, which it is quite apparent is a scientifically measurable thing. And yes, of course it is a huge problem with extremely difficult solutions. But all one has to do is look at the data on how quickly and how much the air pollution levels went down during Covid lockdowns to understand that humans reducing their emissions is not some insurmountable problem. It just takes a willingness for humanity to cooperate. A seemingly tall order these days.
  19. And you are "sure" based on what? Your scientific training, degrees, and research or your man-made cllimate-change denial stance?
  20. The climate change deniers find it necessary to jump in and deny, based on some personal anecdotal observation. Denial is what they're into, not reading or absorbing information.
  21. Sure, plants which are introduced from other countries either need to be coddled because the climate is quite different, or they can become endemic to the new region if the climate is condusive to self- propagation by seed or root spreading. Scotch broom and blackberries were introduced to Canada by British immigrants. They quickly spread and became endemic to the point that they can be unwanted invasive plants, at least where I lived in British Columbia.
  22. Did I say there is anything wrong with info being made readily available for free vaccinations? Rabies is a horrible disease which will kill one's dog and possibly endander the lives of other animals and humans should a rabies-infected dog bite another dog or person. And why do gringoes put out the false notion that all the Mexicans can't afford to pay to vaccinate their dogs, or whatever? Or that all gringoes can? Some might find it too expensive, but by no means are all Mexicans destitute, nor all gringoes well-heeled.
  23. Of course nurseries might sell plants that are not native to an area, but no, distribution doesn't mean where a plant or animal originated. It means where it is currently found, aside from isolated imported plants or trees someone may have bought.
  24. I only go to Canada once a year for a month or two to visit kids and grandkids, so no Canadian carrier. Rogers also is what shows up for Telcel, at least in BC, where I go.
  25. Dog vaccinations are not at all expensive at the vet in Mexico. So while sure, it's great to have it given for free, no one should wait for a free clinic or door-to-door offering to protect their dog from rabies.
