  1. Bruno's generally offers a delicious Prime Rib dinner on Saturday evenings. You can contact the restaurant earlier in the week to reserve your table or "to-go" order. It comes with their wonderful baked potato, sweet corn on the cob and a small salad.

Over the past couple of years with the COVID situation, I've called and picked it up to bring home. It's delicious and I think the price is $300 pesos.

    ENJOY!

  2. The Federal Police report can ONLY be obtained, in person, at the singular location in Mexico City. I needed one several months ago. I went to their website, submitted information and obtained an appointment. Be sure to follow their instructions, be punctual, have ALL of the required paperwork, passport(s), and copies as indicated on the website.

The actual process was well organized and I was in and out within about 30-45 minutes with the important document in my hands. It can be done in the same day with an early morning flight to DF, success with obtaining the document, and later returning to GDL. Since I needed to "certify" the document, I had to spend the night to go to a Consulate the following day.

There's a nice Hotel just around the corner from the Federal building where you get this document. Had good service at a fair price. Send me a PM, if you want the name of the Hotel.

In my case, neither the Jalisco state nor Mexico State criminal history report would suffice. The Federal Police report was required. Good luck with your project.

  3. Saw my regular guy from the wonderful seafood shop on the west side of Ajijic but he was waving me into the seafood shop on the Carretera between Colon and Juarez. He told me they'd closed the seafood shop west of town and he'd started working at the one in Ajijic.

While talking with him, I mentioned we planned to make some sushi rolls this weekend and I normally bought smoked eel from his old place. Asked the current guy but he said he couldn't get it.

Anyone know if I can find some smoked eel, locally?  I know where I can get it in GDL but not worth the drive just for that.

Sorry to learn that seafood shop west of Ajijic has closed, it was my favorite.  :(

    Thanks, in advance.

  4. MtnMama,

Great recipe! I'll keep it for when I am not so pressed for time. I had been delayed in holiday menu preparations by some pressing issues that took priority or I would have taken the time just to make the pie crust.

I appreciate the recipe and the info. about the other options and will be better prepared for future holiday celebrations.  Just one of the GREAT things about this web board.

Stay safe and healthy everyone, Happy Holidays,

    Val. :)

  5. LOL, thanks dichosalocura.....the young lady dug around but only found apple pies in the freezer.  Perhaps I should have tried to search further. The crust I used from Walmart for my southern Chocolate Chess pies wasn't great so we just ate the pie ingredients and left the crust, LOL.  Many thanks to oregontochapala for the reference to Williams Burg pies. I'll put this in my cell phone for future use.

Hope everyone had a pleasant, fun and safe American Thanksgiving!

  7. I guess I waited too long when I went in search of these pie shells yesterday (Tuesday)....None at Panchos, Superlake, Gourmet Garage nor Walmart. Today I was able to purchase from Walmart in the Bakery area, a frozen rectangular shaped "dough" that I was able to thaw and stretch into two pie shells, LOL!  My Chocolate Chess Pie may be interesting tomorrow.  I've baked them and they look fine.  Continuing to live and learn.

    Happy American Thanksgiving!

  8. Looking for new Adult Tap wannabees! D'Le is teaching a class each Wednesday at Noon at the dance studio on the top floor at Plaza Bougainvillea. She has several pairs of "loaner" tap shoes if you want to give it a try and then you can order the correct size from Amazon.com.mx.

Each class is one hour and the cost is $75 pesos. She is fully vaccinated and wears masks for the class. We request all participants also follow these guidelines.

So, if you've always wanted to learn how to Tap, now's your chance. Or, if you did this earlier in life, you can jump in to refresh your memory and progress to the Intermediate Tap class and eventually the Advanced Tap class.
    Happy DANCING!

  10. I was late paying for my 2021 Jalisco fee and it was rather high. I am sorry I don't recall the amount but I won't make that mistake again. I usually pay during the time when you can get a discount but I dropped the ball this year. The fine for paying late was more than the actual fee for the 2017 Kia Sportage car registration.

I paid for it at the place in Chapala where you normally pay for your car tag. I generally renew on-line and print the receipt to keep in my car but since it was late, that option was not available for me this year.

    Good luck!

  11. Mostly Lost is absolutely correct about an Apostille. My sister, Selecia Young-Jones, also offers the service of getting documents to the proper Secretary of State, the Apostille and either returns it to the person requesting it or on to the country requiring it. She has done this for many years not only for my personal needs but others lakeside. Unlike many providers who offer this service, Selecia does it for a considerably low price.

Honestly, I don't have a horse in this race other than to let local folks lakeside know there are legal options available at affordable prices. I've been amazed to learn what some have paid to get a facilitator NOB to get an Apostille for someone who is lakeside.

Those who have used my sister to either notarize documents using the RON (remote online notary) service or have her facilitate getting their documents sent, obtain the Apostille from the Secretary of State and return it or send it on, have been happy with her service and fees. She's just another option available to those needing these services.

    Salud!

  12. Is this an American document or Mexican? If it's an American document, my sister can get it done for you. Her name is Selecia Young-Jones and she's a certified Notary out of Jacksonville, FL. She is able to legally notarize documents remotely using the relatively new technology (Remote on-line Notary) known as RON and has assisted many folks lakeside since the pandemic.  She has also done several Apostille documents for folks needing them done in the U.S.

You can contact her using WhatsApp at 904-333-7311 or her email at:  rainbownotaryandnuptials.com

    Hope this helps you.

    Salud,

  13. My sister, Selecia Young-Jones, is a certified Remote-Online-Notary based in Jacksonville, FL. She has been able to help many lakeside people get their U.S. documents notarized, legally. You can contact her via WhatsApp at 904-333-7311 or at www.rainbownotaryandnuptials.com

She charges $25 USD to do this RON (remote online notary). Give her a call or send her an email and she'll help you out.

  14. Yikes! I'm not sure what to think. I just called Soriana and asked to be transferred to the Pharmacy. I spoke with a lady there who said the testing is open today until 4:30 pm. She went on to say that if I want the results today, I need to be tested before 1 pm. If tested between 1 pm-4:30pm, the results will be sent tomorrow.

I hope when I arrive later this morning they are actually open.

  15. Had my right hip replaced almost 3 years ago in GDL. Strongly recommend Jorge Ulloa for in-home P.T. He and his assistant, Angel, came Monday-Friday for an hour to 90 minutes following my hip replacement surgery. We did multiple exercises on my own massage table.  After 2 weeks, it was time for their Christmas holiday break so I continued doing the same exercises on my own for the next 2 weeks. By the time they returned, I was at the 30 day post surgery time where I could drive myself to their P.T. Clinic in Riberas.  Following one appointment, they cut me loose and told me to continue doing the exercises on my own.  7 weeks later, we were scuba diving in Nicaragua!

Also, Caesar at URDI in the plaza on the libramiento where the PEMEX is located is also EXCELLENT.  He worked with me at his clinic for months before my surgery to strengthen muscles and tendons and try to avoid the surgery but once it was evident I had bone-on-bone in my right hip, I had to move towards replacement.  He and his wife Sandra are FANTASTIC as well.  He also does in-home visits.

Wishing you great luck with your hip replacement and P.T. afterwards.

    Salud!
