  1. Seems we are going to need to remove the current (old) tiles in the lap pool and replace them with new ones. Has anyone does this recently and have recommendations for who does this work, well, and can provide contact information. Thanks for the help. Val Jones

  4. I recently learned the International School on the Libramiento owned by Lana has begun accepting students (I think) as young as Kindergarten age and goes through Secondaria. Her daughter, Lily, is one of the teachers. The facility is impressive and I've heard great things about students receiving a quality education. I also understand it's a bilingual school to ensure all students are proficient in English and Spanish. We've been here a good while and are happy to see more young families moving into the area. Now with multiple and more reliable high-speed internet, we are gaining great fun, young adults and kids. When you and/or they are ready for dance classes, we have 'em! Choices include classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, belly-dancing, afro-Brazilian and more. Salud! Val Jones.
  5. I'm so sorry to read this sad news about Emile. Thinking of Alix and the rest of their family and friends during this terribly difficult time. Sending heartfelt condolences. Val Jones
  6. As our adult dance community continues to grow, we find our Adult Tap class diminishing as students progress into the Intermediate and Advanced Tap classes. So, anyone wanting to try out Tap dance classes? If so, join Robert (our great teacher) at the dance studio on the 3rd floor of Plaza Bougainvillea each Wednesday at Noon for a fun one hour class. Cost is $75 pesos. We have several pairs of "loaner" Tap shoes for new students to start with and help determine proper sizing when you wish to purchase your own shoes. If you need additional information, please contact me, Val Jones, and I'll be happy to help you. Happy dancing! Val.

  8. ARGH!!! 3:47 am this morning, my UPS's starting to beep/scream and the fans were no longer working. I got up, checked it wasn't just our house but the entire Barrio and called CFE. Was told it was a large outage and should be fixed within 4 hours. Fortunately within 30 minutes or so, it came back on. Good thing as this time of the year without any fans, it was HOT! Clearly, as more demand is placed on the current transformers and electrical lines, we will continue to see these problems. I've begged CFE for years to help us in the Barrio de San Sebastián. After much effort, petitions from fellow Mexican neighbors, we did get 2 smaller transformers to replace the one small transformer and have had fewer problems but especially during this time of high demand, we're struggling. Hopefully CFE will be willing and able to provide the electricity for our growing Ribera. Hope springs eternal. Val.
  9. Hey there,

Hope you're doing well, staying safe and healthy. Do you know a contact to report abuse/neglect for an animal in the Lake Chapala area?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Val Jones :)

  10. Hi, Can anyone provide updated contact information to report animal abuse/neglect in the Lake Chapala area? Many thanks, Val Jones
  11. I've been with the Mexican insurance company, GNP, for almost 20 years. Fortunately, I've only had to use it for a hip replacement and a foolish crash on a scooter (never again) that caused a break in my color bone and a couple of ribs. The hip replacement required meeting deductible and small co-pay but the scooter incident was an accident so it had no deductible and was covered 100%. I have been happy with the Agent and the coverage. Currently, my monthly premiums are about $220 USD. I pay for the full year, in advance. Salud! Val Jones
  12. Sounds GREAT! I hope they can make it work. Wonderful location! Salud, Val.
  13. Rob was such a wonderful man and great friend. My heart hurts with his lovely wife, Patsi. RIP, Rob, we miss you. With love and condolences, Val Jones

  15. After reading many positive postings about this restaurant, we went last week. We were so pleased with the cleanliness, attention to COVID precautions, GREAT salad bar and reasonable prices. We definitely will return for a more "order from the menu" dining experience. Several things sounded delicious but we were more interested in checking out the fresh options on the salad bar for our first visit. The owner, Diane (Diana) made an effort to visit each table to introduce herself and ask how the dining experience is/was. We always consider that a positive experience. She was receptive to requests and hopefully we'll see more seafood options in the future. Seems she and her staff are working smartly and gradually introducing additional menu items bit by bit. Our waitress was absolutely delightful. She mentioned she was here for vacation while her university was out on holiday and she'd be returning (on scholarship) within a couple of weeks. Thrilled to see local talent recognized, appreciated and supported by scholarship opportunities. Cheers! Val.
  16. Yea, we were out as well. FINALLY got through to their tech support number and was told that there was damage to the fiber optics cable near SJC on the Carretera and they hoped to have full repair within 5 hours. Seems it did take about that time. Grateful for their attentiveness and willingness to make the repair on a holiday weekend. Cheers, Val.
  17. So sorry to see this....LOVE Bruno's meals! I hope no one was injured and they can repair damages quickly. I agree, we'd all like to see them locate to a space with parking and open air dining but if not, we'll continue to support them with bi-monthly take-out orders. LOVE their Rib-eye, Filet, baked potatoes, salads, etc. Cheers! Val.
  18. I have plenty, LOL! Let me know if you'd be interested in a cheap, second-hand one. Instead of paying for a 2nd bag to the U.S., I've been just buying one there to fill with things to bring to Ajijic. I have hard shell and soft shell. Send me a P.M. if you'd like to come see the selection. Salud! Val.
  19. bmh, thanks, will do. There's absolutely no problem with cremation if a death occurs due to "natural causes." The problem of cremation arises if the death was due to an accident or other causes. Val
  20. bmh, I don't know the answer to your question. Dr. Leon was unaware of this new Jalisco state law and I certainly didn't know about it, either. I now need to amend my will so my remains can be repatriated to the U.S. for cremation. It's an expensive and additional step for my remaining family members to have to take but I don't see another option under the current law. Stay safe and healthy! Val.
  21. After watching a friend experience the unexpected loss of her spouse, she was told there aren't any burial plots in Ajijic nor Chapala and that Ixtluacan was the closest option. She's had to have his body embalmed, flown to the U.S. and will go from there. Apparently there's a relatively new Jalisco state law that says if a death is anything other than from "natural causes", one must bury the body for 5 years before cremation is an option. Clearly, this is very upsetting and problematic for Ex-Pats in Mexico who would like to have cremation for their loved ones. Sadly, this law doesn't spell out exceptions for victims of clear accidents. I understand when a death occurs and there could be potentially troubling circumstances but when a car/plane/ATV accident causes a death, it should be clearly noted on the death certificate and the loved ones should have freedom to have cremation done. Just my .02 worth, Val Jones
  22. I'm so sorry to read this sad news of your loss, thinking of you, sending peaceful and healing energy. Many thanks for taking the time to share your experience with others. Val Jones.
