    SMOKE HOUSE

Skip's is on Av. Patria in Guadalajara. They have a FB page.
  2. Although they vary each time due to increases and additions/closings of some toll booths, our tolls are about $1500 for a car. Motorcycles, motorhomes, buses, trucks are different. We also have a toll tag but, unlike the US, there's no discount on the tolls for using the tag.
  3. Not all unknown callers are scammers: currently, the phone companies are leaving recorded messages to notify their customers of the dialing changeover that takes over Mexico-wide on August 3. I guess we will be re-inputting our contacts in landlines and cells.
  4. Starting July 25 and over the next two months, the LD channels are migrating to HD. Some channels (eg. Slice) just abruptly left. Darn! This site won't accept an xlxs file format or I"d post all 14 pages of the spreadsheet.
  5. We considering switching from Telmex to Ilox. Not keeping both, but making the switch, which requires giving up our Telmex landline for the ILOX VOIP. Has anyone done so and successfully transferred their Telmex phone number to their ILOX phone? Or must one get a new phone number from Ilox? I've heard keeping the same number is possible, but would like to confirm with someone who has done this successfully since having to acquire a new number would be a factor in the decision.
  6. The city is installing colored pedestrian crossings that supposedly will stand out more than the lines that are painted and deteriorate quickly. With the eco event being held this weekend, the malec贸n traffic surely will be tied up. Gobierno de Chapala May 29 at 12:35 PM 路 馃毀馃殰馃毟El tramo de la Av. Madero esquina Ram贸n Corona a la altura del restaurante Cazadores, se encuentra cerrada a la circulaci贸n debido a que el personal de Obras P煤blicas est谩 trabajando en la creaci贸n de cruces peatonales con estampado en cemento. Utiliza v铆as alternas. Agradecemos tu comprensi贸n por las molestias que esto pueda ocasionar. #GobiernoDeLaGente
  7. The pump is still out of service. The municipality last week indicated that it may be mid-week at earliest to resume service. And they indeed will proceed by providing less flow than typical to service all their customers. Our neighborhood has been ordering pipas since mid-last week.
  8. The bar code will be different; if returning to Guadalajara by air, the agent will make you complete another form and you may get a lecture or have to pay a fine for its replacement. Other arrival cities may be different and land crossings are different again.
  9. Tejuino...you either love it or you don't. I personally think it's the best drink EVER, especially on days like today. Only problem is that with the ciclopista prohibiting any parking in front of Arra帽aga on the carretera, it's a PITA to park. Theirs are terrific, by the way.
  10. The date of this article is 2015; in 2019 we have a new administration, new laws going into effect. All the Mexican sources I am trying to follow show that there is a pilot program going on now, that multiple employers of a single domestic will share proportionately in the expenses incurred in registering that person for their Seguro Social benefits. Some sources say that the expense will be divided among the employer, the employee, and the government; others do not give this clarification. It will all shake out soon.
  11. Does anyone have any positive recommendations for someone to come out and service our Mirage minisplit ac/-heat? It's a few years old and I'm thinking it's time to get it checked although it seems to be functioning properly. TIA!
  12. "Chofer" does mean "driver" but a Jalisco driver license for a car says "automovilista." For a pickup under 3000 kg or an auto up to 15 passengers, one applies for a "chofer" designation; the categories of driver licenses are: Modalidad: Chofer, automovilista, motociclista, permiso de menor, conductor de servicio de transporte p煤blico
  13. Walmart has color remover, but it is a different brand. Over by the laundry soaps, eye level.
  14. I needed the new one for my passport.
  15. Done for the past week; he's being neutered tomorrow. Local vets think either he was dumped last weekend or jumped from a Tapatio's truck and cannot find his way home. I've clocked miles and miles the past eight days looking for anyone who knows him or can offer him a home. SOL...
  16. Might it be possible to add this guy to the adoption? He's still hanging around; I posted several days ago but no takers so far. Thank you so much! Might anyone in Rancho del Oro area be able to identify a young-ish, large, intact male yellow lab mix with two one-inch-long horizontal scars over one eye who may have escaped his home on Saturday afternoon? He followed the trash truck up Cj贸n de la Zapota on Saturday night and at that time was wearing a collar. Today he has reappeared, sans collar. He is limping and appears tired but nourished and is super-sweet. I've fed and left water for him and I am hoping someone in the area will know who he belongs to. Here's "Bombones" who looks to be about 50 lbs young, but looks lighter (to me) in these photos.
  17. Not Siamese, but Dr. Ladr贸n this morning has two adorable white babies up for adoption.

  19. I can't speak to the oxygen concentrator but my experience at Lakeside Medical is that the equipment rentals are per month; I rented a wheelchair in March, returned it well before 30 days, and was told (both before I rented and confirmed on return) that the rentals are for a monthly period, regardless of how many days you actually use the device.
  20. Congrats. Just now seeing this. Did you get clarity on my posting of INE and printing the updated CURP (it has a colored Mexican flag on it)?
  21. This happens frequently at Laredo (but not at Colombia, in my experience.) The agent (and supervisor) told me that at that location their bar-coded numbers on the FMMs are tracked so they could not use the FMM form I had completed in advance since the number would not mesh with the sequence of numbers they were given. I just copied the info to the new form, destroyed the first one, and they let me go to the front of the line when I had completed the copying. And yes, land border crossing officials appear less familiar with RP and RT holders, whose process for in and out registrations essentially is the reverse of tourists: almost always a supervisor to help the agent. (PS: the correct computer code is "8")
  22. Like REC, we also use Jes煤s Tejeda, who is a very responsive, bilingual broker. For the dozen or so years we've used him for our insurance needs (car, home, medical) he always has been upfront, responsive, and reliable. He will review with you the multiple providers he carries; the pros, cons, and recent histories of each, so you can make an informed decision. Like all insurance, your multiple variables are reflected in the cost and coverages.
  23. You must pick it up in person and sign and sign and thumbprint; there's an oath to read and sign reiterating your allegiance to Mexico while on Mexican soil. Another recommendation: after you get your document and your passport (both) , apply for certified copies of your naturalization document. You pay at the bank before submitting the application ($20 each) but your naturalization papers cannot be notarized by a notario, as you do other papers (license, etc.)--only by SRE. This way, you can have multiples in different places for security. It is a booger, I'm told, to try to replace the original and my attorney suggested getting multiple copies. It takes about 3 weeks. You can have them mailed or give someone (like your attorney) power of attorney to pick them up if you don't want yet another trip to Guadalajara for this reason. And your INE application takes about 3 weeks: they'll give you a pick-up date.
