  1. I recently ordered the Artemis Fowl 8-book series as a Christmas gift for our gardener's grandson, who has developed a love of reading. The order arrived in English, instead of the Spanish editions I selected.

If you have English-speaking grandsons (this is a VERY popular series for boys, ages 8-12) who are coming for Christmas and you'd like to have them, please message me. Otherwise, I'll donate to Wilkes.

I know I can buy a  box of mothballs at Superlake, rather expensive.   I purchased Mothballs several  years ago at one  of the local hardware stores near Telmex.  There is a word in Spanish which means mothballs,   I can't for the life of me remember what it is..   I  put a few mothballs behind my washer/dryer to k the eep mice away.  It works.  Does  anyone know the spanish  word?  I can't find it.

    Thank you

  3. Dr. Martha Medina on the corner of Constitución and Ramón Corona is an endodontist who brings in from Guadalajara a terrific periodontist on Tuesdays, Dr. Javier Vásquez Vásquez. Spouse is starting on third implant with him and most highly recommends them both. Tel 376-766-4503

As I have previously posted, the Federal report is obtained online now.  No need to go to MX City.

I understand that; however, if someone has had to get a new passport as did I, s/he may encounter the issue I did. The feds couldn't help me; it was only by having a copy of my own prior (and canceled/replaced) passport did I solve the riddle on my own. Otherwise, this would have been a derailing step.

  5. I needed the local one (in Chapala; I remember the fee being an odd amount, something like $116mx?) and the federal one is from CDMX. I was initially denied the federal as Mexico's records showed me with two foreign passports: technically correct because over the years I had to have my foreign passport renewed and the Mexico computer records showed both. Even with the dates showing one passport was a replacement due to expiry, they wouldn't budge. I had to Uber all over the city and pay a substantial sum to get the consulate to write a letter verifying that one passport replaced the other. Still had to return a second trip...the expense of two flights.

As they say, "Nothing is ever easy."

  6. Juan is the manager of La Fiesta, which is moving  from its current location (and Blue Rose Bistro's original home) on the carretera to its expanded new digs in the old Don Pedro space next to the French Bakery and across the street from the Brew House on the carretera in West Ajijic, just west of the Panteón. Based on a conversation several days ago, I believe Angela, who owns Blue Rose and La Fiesta, is still on track for a soft opening coming up the first week of October. Angela has a post on the facebook restaurant page under Blue Rose Bistro/La Fiesta Restaurant. It's going to be a lovely new spot.

I know it is early but I am working on our schedule for next summer.  Does anyone know why the calendars for 2024 list the date for the 2024 General Election as 7 July, 2024 and, recent articles list the date as 2 June, 2024?  NOTE:  I have purposely deleted candidates names in hopes this post will not be considered political.

     - My research revealed this:

Mexican citizens cast their votes during the general election ( Elecciones generales de México) on the first Sunday of July every 6 years

     - This is what 5 different 2024 calendars have for the election date:

July 7     Sunday     Mexican general election     National holiday

     - Here is a sampling of recent articles:

General elections are scheduled to be held in Mexico on 2 June 2024.

Mexico will go to the polls on June 2 to elect a successor to popular incumbent .xxxxxxx..

Mexico’s broad opposition coalition announced it has chosen xxxxxxx as its candidate in the June 2, 2024 presidential elections

The election is June 2, and xxxxxx will leave office on Sept. 30, 2024.

The INE electoral guide for 2024 is quite comprehensive.

It appears that the tramites site is allowing online appointments at the Plaza Patria location. This is new since I renewed my passport in April when a telephone call was required.

You do have to take the time to set up an online account before proceeding.

Plaza Patria is a great location for passports--there is a very on-the-ball woman there who sets the lines, pre-checks docs, and brings organization to an otherwise chaotic governmental facility. It's a wait, for sure, but impressively organized. And you can go to City Market, restaurante Chai, Dairy Queen, and other jewels while you are there!

  9. The law has changed several times since the mid-1950s. Most recently, in 1998, Mexico permits Mexican citizens to have more than one (Mexican nationality). As for renouncing other citizenships, I asked and was told that the distinction applies to being on Mexican soil. As a Mexican within Mexico, you abide by the laws and benefits, and cannot claim another. So, break a Mexican law as a dual citizen, means you are treated as a Mexican citizen.

  10. Their salmon and steaks are really good; the sandwich offerings are a nice option for smaller portions but the tapas, IMO, aren't a reason to go. The owners are delightful and accommodating and the garden setting is very pretty. Limited parking in front of the restaurant.

That really doesn't answer my question.  Is it Josue, who had been the J in M&J pizza or not?

    Short answer is No.

Longer/background answer: Josué "Josh" split from Moisés (the original M and J team that were at Perry's for a time) and opened his own place in Bugambilias, where the cinema delivery business was supposed to justify the move and location. It didn't and Covid and slow foot traffic caused him to move for a few months southwest past the French Bakery about a block and a half, during which time he and Moisés did reconcile for a bit and resume working together. That location was very tough for most to patronize and, despite their join attempts to have some indoor seating for clients beyond take-out pizzas (and they also had delivery issues), the location closed. I saw Josh several months ago crossing the carretera but, despite promises to reach out to me wherever he lands, he has not.

Juan, who was just a kid and now is a man, bought into M&J when they were off of Javier Mina and I still see him at Popeye's, where that pizza oven and business are still up and going.

OK.  Since Shaw Direct is leaving us high & dry over the course of the next 2 years (due to the mothballing of the Anik F2 satellite), I want to investigate migrating to IPTV in the future.  Very important to me is the recording function of the Shaw DVR so that I can record specific live programs for viewing later.  I hate watching TV on a computer screen so I use Roku players on my TV's for watching Netflix, Prime, etc. now.  Does anyone here have any success with any of the cloud DVR services for recording live TV sports or news channels?  My favorite live TV programs ar things like F1 racing and BBC News.

We have IPTV (your can subscribe on your own, if you want to cut out a provider) and love it, except that under most circumstances we cannot record. However, since we have all the broadcast channels on it, we can go to another affiliate and watch the programming at that time. Series show under the "Series" icon and new episodes post sometime after air time (seems to depend on the show, sometimes a week later, if you want to catch up or binge. We also pay separately for Netflix and Prime, so we don't miss anything we want to watch.

I should have said I got both my RFC and Constancia (one document).  Take your CURP number and ID to the little Papelerila (?) across from the Oxxo/Intercam bank.  She did it on her computer and printed it in a few minutes.

If you don't have a separate document that is solely RFC, you don't have a copy of your RFC document--you only have a document that shows your RFC number. A Constancia sits "on top" of your CURP and RFC and verifies that SAT confirmed the legitimacy of both document numbers assigned to you, so a Constancia shows your CURP, RFC, and registration ID number in the SAT system  to the right of the box and next to your QR code.

Did the papelería have you go through the visual, signature, and oral-reading prompts? Did they give you your own login and password to reprint your Constancia when you will need to? The Constancia (as do many Mexican documents, including birth certificates) have an expiry date of 30 days from the issue date printed on them (see the box under the document title CONSTANCIA DE SITUACION FISCAL). To reprint, you have to be able to log in to your very own account on SAT with your user ID and password, which you select during the preregistration step. (The process for a Constancia is twofold: pre-application and approval by SAT after review, then setup of your SAT account and printing of your Constancia. Sometimes this takes a day or two.) If you don't have the aforementioned information to get into your account and to reprint, you're likely going to have to do the process over when your Constancia expires, as have several people I know who chose this workaround route, rather than fully complete the process through SAT.

I checked and don't have an RFC number. I did find this about getting an RFC online but it looks like it is for Mexican citizens only. https://contigosinfronteras.org/get-your-curp-and-rfc/?lang=en#:~:text=Requirements to apply for the RFC%3A&text=It can be done online,PTSC%2FValidaRFC%2Findex.jsf

I followed the link, but lo and behold...it directs you to a SAT office to complete the RFC after a cursory "preregistration with a CURP."
