  1. FWIW, I went through the video and sentence with glasses a couple of days ago attempting to change the password. I received a text today the request was approved. I was allowed to change the password but I still get the same error as before when trying to log in. Invalid RFC or password. The password is good so they must be objecting to the RFC although the associated information is accessible via the QR code. My next guess is that the account is invalid because whoever at SAT created it 10 years ago neglected to input the CURP. What I get from the QR code will have to suffice for a constancia if one is ever needed.
  2. An iPad also works although not without a lot of gyrations. The desktop monitor has no camera. The antivirus program on the laptop was in no way going to allow the SAT page access to the camera even with the option turned off and the protection paused. The iPad allowed access to the camera and the token was sent by text. So far so good. In order to attach a file on an iPad you must access it on iCloud, the local file system or photos. Had to email the photo so that I could save it to photos. Then the video and sentence were a joke but in the end the request was accepted. Now a room full of people at SAT must look at every photo, video and listen to the sentence to see if it passes. I wonder if their system has a place to store this information without losing it. According to one of the videos SAT will respond back in a few days. All this just to get the password on an existing account changed.
  3. All CAPCHA letters are in caps for this site. Some are just bigger than others. At times impossible to read and some screens don't have an option to get another.
  4. You'd need a device like this for a biometric iris or retina scan normally placed just a few inches from your eye. A laptop or iPad camera shot taken 2 or more feet away probably won't even reveal your eye color. The whole exercise seems a bit silly since there's no control or continuity with the video and audio process. Anyone with a newer iPhone knows the gyrations needed to set up facial rec. I too recorded the video with reading glasses not being able to read the sentence without them.
  5. I've found the Magic Jack iPhone app works well when connected to decent Wifi but if you're on the road using cell data the chances of getting an incoming call are hit and miss. I rely on the missed call notification or voicemail left on these attempted calls.
  6. If you have an account at SAT and can successfully log in at sat.gob.mx, select otros tramites then Genera Constancia in the basic services menu. Select the 1st option Inscripcion and then scroll to the right to uncover the Generar Constancia button. It will download a 2 page pdf.
  7. There's another page on the SAT site dealing with changing a password. The screen asks for the RFC number but when entering it an error pops on the 13th character saying only 12 characters are allowed. When pressing the OK button with the 1st 12 characters you get an error saying the RFC number is in an invalid format. It's hard to guess what they're looking for. The forgot password option on the login screen takes you to another screen asking for your electronic signature which of course we don't have. Before getting there you're asked if you have an electronic signature. There is only a Yes button, not one saying no.
  8. There was an article on the Yuclandia (Yucatan site) about the RFC and the author stated that appointments in Merida were tough so people were driving to SAT offices in Campeche and Chetumal. It would make sense since the RFC is not issued by a state but then a lot of government rules in Mexico don't always make sense. Read for yourself by searching yuclandia and RFC. This site rejected posting the link. The article is titled "Mexico’s Three New Requirements for Mexicans over Age 18 & Foreign Residents to Register with SAT"
  9. Remember when all FM3 renewals required a copy of every passport page even when blank? Every year. Year after year. Raised seals were another favorite for notarized documents. Had a friend who presented a notarized document with the usual ink stamp. Rejected. He pulled out an old Woodworkers of America raised seal stamp, affixed it to the document and it was accepted. Unfortunately SAT is probably the worst agency in the Mexican government to deal with followed closely by SEMARNAT which deals with concessions along the coast.
  10. It appears to be more convoluted than that. Mexico - Tax ID Number (RFC) - Sayari Learn This link states that one of the options is the RFC begins with the first consonant and first vowel of the last name. That is consistent with my RFC which starts SABO, not SHBO. There are different options if a maternal name is used. A room full of bureaucrats must of spent weeks coming up with this.
  11. Saw that option but when entering a valid CURP the response is no RFC is on file but when entering the RFC it says the number is valid. Update: The reason the lookup doesn't work is that SAT did not enter my CURP when establishing the RFC number. The lookup works fine for my wife's CURP to RFC lookup since her RFC account has the CURP attached,
  12. It would stand to reason that the only way one could "look up" an RFC number is if you applied for one at a SAT office and it is in their database however there does not appear to be any option buried in that site to make that sort of lookup. The CURP number is in a database so it can be queried. Just about everyone has a CURP but not necessarily a real RFC which is only used when dealing with money/taxes at SAT. I only have a real RFC because I needed to get a refund from SAT for an immigration payment back when inmigrado changed to permanente. I made a payment for inmigrado status the day the change went into effect. The permanente fee was the same but to a different account number. It took 2 years to get the money back.
  13. There appears to be man things you can do on the sat.gob.mx site but looking up your RFC number doesn't seem to be one of them. You can click on obtain a RFC number but you receive a message that you must physically appear at a SAT office to get one. You can calculate a RFC number based on an algorithm but it will not exist in the SAT database until they give you one. The last 3 characters are described as a checksum based on the first 10. It's more like a tie-breaker because there is a good possibility of duplicates based on the name and birthdate algorithm.
  14. There doesn't appear to be a lookup for a RFC number like the one available for a CURP. If you got a real RFC from SAT you received a CIF card with the RFC information printed and available from SAT through the QR code. I store passwords and critical information like CURP, RFC, license, passport and so on in a program called PasswordSafe. I then put a copy of the safe on Dropbox so it can be viewed whenever and wherever needed on my cell phone. It has come in handy when needing a Factura for insurance purposes which requires the RFC number.
  15. My RFC number appears on the car tag payment receipt from earlier this year.
  16. Still out in Las Salvias too. The UPS is keeping the internet up but the one for the TV crapped out after 20 minutes. Time for another battery. CFE seems to have some major issues heading into the rainy season. Just received this from Telmex. Thanks a lot Hola, tu servicio TELMEX xxxxxxx esta en una zona afectada por un corte de electricidad. Estamos trabajando para restablecerlo. Gracias por tu comprension
  17. Their only phone number appears to be Mexico City. Sky removed the English option a long time ago and the chances of getting an English speaking operator is slim to none. The easiest method I've found to contact them is through their chat option online. Use Google Translate to express your issues and then reverse the language to translate the response. Customer service is not their strong suit.
  18. A VOIP service solves the problem of dialing a toll free number although the conversion posted above works but is not free. The + sign used on a cell phone is the indicator that the next 1-3 digits are a country code. The number 1 is the only single digit country code in the world covering the US, Canada and a good portion of the Caribbean. When dialing out on a non-cell, the prefix 011 is used in country code 1 countries while the rest of the world generally initiates an international call using 00. If a country code is 2 digits like Mexico 52 or France 33 (sometimes US caller IDs will identify a call from a Guadalajara cell 33 as coming from France), then there are no 3 digit countries beginning with those numbers. Conversely if a country code is 3 digits then there is no country identified by the first 2 of the 3. For example Bolivia is 591 meaning there is no country 59.
  19. In case anyone is looking for sod, the vivero down from Superlake has some nice cuts that are green and a reasonable amount of dirt around the roots. About $50/meter
  20. You'd be better off going to Home Services just west of town for those products and installation if needed. Jackie seems to have disappeared.
  21. I just heard that Rob passed away yesterday in Arizona. Perhaps some of you played tennis with him or his wife Patsi. He played linebacker for the LA Rams during the Roman Gabriel era, wrote science fiction books and brought the first gaming mouse to the public. The article linked below tells his story in his own words. There were so many people we've met living in Ajijic the last 20 years that lived an extraordinary life. Rob was just one of them. 22. One other route to note on a trip to Tucson is the macrolibramiento around Tepic. It appears on Google Earth but the Garmin in the car tried sending us into town. 45
  23. Las Salvias too. Probably systemwide as all the modem lights look good.
  24. VOIP telephone out again in Las Salvias. It may be time to try ILOX phone again.
