Ibarra's post is a touching one and how true we wish it was for both the animal world and humans too.     However.....apparently it is an old and early "deep fake":    (sorry folks!)

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2021/09/30/fact-check-altered-image-shows-elephant-carrying-lion-cub/5929997001/

Thanks for posting this. My radar went up when I saw it and was going to check it out with snopes but you beat me to it. I find the times we are living in to be vey dangerous because so much false information is being disseminated and people won't know what is truth unless it becomes a habit to fact check. A questionable image being revealed as fake is important to a mindset we should be cultivating - checking and backing up our thinking with facts. It is not about this particular image or feel good story - it's about being told stories and accepting them as reality. It's on a joke and humour page so maybe it's not to be taken seriously but it isn't a funny story - it is a contrived way of manipulating people's feelings.

Most highly recommend Go Solar, STI Solar Technology.     Ron and his team are aces in all solar systems; I am so impressed and happy with the quality, value, and service they have shown me and many others I know.       Featured in this article too in the Guad Reporter recently:

I agree. Absolutely THE BEST = Go Solar, STI in my experience

Read this from BBC news re:  fires  blazing thru all of Canada and causing smoke problems in U.S. ( never mind Canada itself). It describes in detail how to protect yourself from smoke, and proper use of N95 masks to help.  Also has a few other tips.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-65843485

I am in Canada right now and the air quality has been severely affected by the fires. I have never known anything like it. The sun is red and the atmosphere feels like we're in a Sci-Fi movie ... really weird to be having conditions like these, never before experienced - the world is not the world I was lucky enough to have grown up in

  4. Oh sure - of course - stay driving for as long as you can whether you're competent or not? I would hope someone would advise me, if I were driving and a danger to others (and myself) - I would really like to know. If we can pass the test, great. If not, time to stop driving a killing machine - we have a wonderful bike lane and electric bikes are easy to find - plus: we have trains and planes and taxis

You still need to go to INM at the airport just like before but you don’t need to fill out the form, just show your passport and temporal or permanent card and they will stamp your passport with the exit date..

Thanks for this - that's what I needed to know .... do I do this at Guadalajara airport or Mexico City which will be the actual point of departure from the country or does it matter?

  6. As soon as you use your Canadian cell phone number when in Mexico, you are charged $14.00 a day as a daily rate - even with "roaming" turned off. Even if you are just receiving a text with a code to verify an account - no way around it and it is, as far as I know, a universal policy with all the companies offering cell phone plans in Canada.  This policy is a fairly new and certainly has caught many people I know unawares. There is an upside to it - like if you want to pay the $14.00, I think you get some benefits if you need your phone all day for Canadian texts but I haven't investigated so not sure how it works -  just sharing my own experience.

No one made you the "expert" here, why not let people make their own list, since your input was not asked for. The OP is intelligent, don't show her disrespect.

Whoa! Interesting reactions from some people. I have no connection to any of the posters in this thread and read the "rude" comment as just someone trying to say that what suits someone perfectly might be totally wrong for someone else. I thought her list of what one might want to consider, especially for someone who doesn't know lakeside, to be very useful. There are many things we, who have been here a while, will consider but a newcomer to the area wouldn't know to ask

  8. Driving a 2 wheeled bicycle or motorcycle is not the same as driving a car, even if only because it's been shown that other drivers do not recognize them as they do other vehicles ....  have to be doubly alert to not being seen when riding any kind of bike ... https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/01/180105082243.htm

According to human factors/ergonomics researchers Kristen Pammer, Stephanie Sabadas, and Stephanie Lentern, LBFTS crashes are particularly troublesome because, despite clear conditions and the lack of other hazards or distractions, drivers will look in the direction of the oncoming motorcycle -- and in some cases appear to look directly at the motorcycle -- but still pull out into its path

I think that happens a lot here. I think that my neighbour who has been a client of Dr. Moya for years is being over charged. I asked a  bilingual Mexican to go over Moya's bill as a result I told my meighbour not to pay more unless Moya does something specific. The only way Moya will home visit my neighbour is if my neighbour tells Moya he has money or him.

I have been a patient of Dr. Moya for years as well.  I do not believe I am overcharged and I know dr. Moya will come to my home whenever I need him - I have him on speed dial and have his contact information ("for any time of day or night, if needed") .... I don't believe in second hand gossip and I would encourage everyone to find out  for him/herself what they think of his care. I am totally happy with the care and attention I continue to receive from him and very happy not to have to drive to Joco to get it ...

  10. How about we all we all do what our own moral code dictates? So, if you were lucky enough to be born Canadian and have access to amazing health care and pay your taxes,  can you decide you are "entitled" - even if the rules/guidelines (for the sake of the greater good and in order to maintain and fund this) say otherwise - if you can "get away" with something at someone else's expense - that's OK?  I believe we all live according to what we believe to be "right" or "wrong" .... if you can justify living in Mexico and circumventing the guidelines put forth by the government which is trying to provide a better life for those who live in the country - I guess that's your choice. I choose my friends according to their beliefs and behaviour. My code is to do whatever you want - as long as you aren't hurting anyone else. Do you think you might be abusing the system? That's the question.

Moderators, can we please have a new Topic added that is FOR ALL THINGS U.S.A..

We are all not Americans here and it would be nice to give them their own platform to bitch and complain about their political issues without the rest of us  having to endure it. Especially with the November election coming up.

Spare us all the uglies,.....por favor!!!!

I think I would miss feeling "thank goodness that isn't my country" - the more I see what the US is having to deal with, the more I appreciate not having to

Why?  I paid US. taxes ..last year I spent thousands in the US and will do so again this year....what does it matter where I live.

I guess if you're in need then it will be a wonderful support for you. If you aren't in need, I don't think it's an entitlement. This is a time when everyone is giving to everyone else who can't survive without the generosity of our fellow man - the government is taxing the "general man" in order to help those in need - that is why I am glad I pay taxes and contribute to what needs to be done in order that everyone has food and roof

Are you perhaps comparing the number of walkers and cyclists on the bike path to the number of cars on the road>

I drive the carretera regularly and I always observe  many walkers and bike riders using the path.

My partner and I plan to purchase a couple of basic bikes now that a relatively safe riding space is being provided. I am 100% certain we won't be the only ones who will now be able to ride.

"If you build it, they will come." I have had a bicycle here for 13 years and it is only now that I am considering using it as my primary "go to" source of transportation when needing to get somewhere within 5 or 6 miles of where I live. One less car on the carretera and a huge time saver with no worries about where to park.

I know where it is because we lived in Riviera Alta when we first moved back inland from San Pancho in 2011. Basically, you go UP the mountain on Revolution and turn right on Lazaro Cardenas towards Riviera Alta. The signs will be on your LEFT as you head towards Riviera Alta. Luis may or may not be there... his cell phone number was (is) 331-241-9773. He is the landscaper who works with Roberto at Chapala Tree Services (331-411-0242).

Luis has moved from Lazaro Cardenas - he told me he is now near Walmart but I haven't seen his new location so can't be more specific.

Here is what I think - the Chapala government does not have money for "real" projects because of the previous administrations going back a ways has obligated the current budgets for lawsuits and settlements etc... so when the State of Jalisco offers some money for special projects they take it regardless of whether it suits our needs or not.  Obviously we need to make safe and beautiful bike lanes for the 3-400 people a day who use the lane.  The fact that thousands are using the roadways and safety is compromised initially means nothing.  Fast forward a few years and an administration will be ripping it all out to create a 3rd or even 4th lane.  Such a waste.

"If you build it, they will come"  Wouldn't it be wonderful if all the locals could use bikes or trikes instead of automobiles? I am using my bicycle now and it is one less car on the road.
