  1. THIS. I don't know if the potatoes at the markets are any different, but when making mashed, cough up the extra and go to SL or Pancho's and buy actual russets. The local stuff makes a really gluey, soupy mess and is pretty much inedible. They usually cook semi-ok for potato salad, if you're not too picky.
  2. BOB HOPE SAYINGS On his deathbed, they asked him where he wanted to be buried. Bob Hope replied: "Surprise me." ON TURNING 70 - "I still chase women, but only downhill." ON TURNING 80 - "That's the time of your life when even your birthday suit needs pressing." ON TURNING 90 - "You know you are getting old when the candles cost more than the cake." ON TURNING 100 - " I don't feel old. In fact, I don't feel anything until noon. Then it's time for my nap." ON GIVING UP HIS EARLY CAREER (BOXING) - "I ruined my hands in the ring. The referee kept stepping on them." ON GOLF - "Golf is my profession. Show business is just to pay the green fees." ON PRESIDENTS - "I have performed for 12 presidents but entertained only six." ON WHY HE CHOOSE SHOWBIZ FOR HIS CAREER - "When I was born, the doctor said to my mother, congratulations, you have an eight-pound ham." ON RECEIVING THE CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL - "I feel very humble, but I think I have the strength of character to fight it." ON HIS FAMILY'S EARLY POVERTY - "Four of us slept in the one bed. When it got cold, mother threw on another brother." ON HIS SIX BROTHERS - "That's how I learned to dance. Waiting for the bathroom." ON HIS EARLY FAILURES - "I would not have had anything to eat if it wasn't for the stuff the audience threw at me." ON GOING TO HEAVEN - "I have done benefits for ALL religions. I would hate to blow the hereafter on a technicality."
  3. Thanks...they sure looked like the smaller ones that I get in a package. Since WM only sells 3 types usually (white, "setas," and cremini with portabellos every so often), I never even thought to check the name. Since I've only heard folks using "champinon" for mushroom in the past, it never dawned on me to look "seta" up to see what they actually were. Lesson learned!
  4. Setas I don't know squat about mushrooms but I buy these all the time at WM and that's what the package says.
  5. NOTE TO TOTAL PLAY: PLEASE COME TO CHAPALA HACIENDAS.
  6. It was started at 6 days, lowered to 4 and I changed it to 3 because we still had mineral rings when water dried. The flush just goes to the side of our yard but I didn't realize that there was quite a bit of water that was flushed. It's not connected into our septic or absorption tank but there's a small hose for the discharge on the side of our aljibe and then it goes into the grass...which would be great except it's on a hill and the septic and absorption are below, although to the side. I've been going nuts trying to figure out why the water level got so high so quickly in the absorption tank (insert huge "Duh!" here). Anyway, salt was about a bag a month. I don't know if that's super fast but it seemed worth it if the mineral rings disappeared. They've lessened but haven't totally gone away. I do like the feeling of the water, though, so it's still worth it. Now, I have it switched back to every 4 days and I'll definitely keep an eye on the tank! How much salt are you going through?
  7. Wow, we didn't realize that, either. Thanks for the info...you may have just kept us from flooding our absorption tank/septic tank because I had it set to regenerate a LOT more than average (very hard water).
  8. Oh, I wish I had some emoticons left to give you! I love that if certain folks agree with a posting, it's fair media and if they disagree, it's "right-wing" whatever -- ignoring those who sit in the middle, sometimes heavy left, sometimes heavy right. I wonder how many of those over 65 were actually suffering from other diseases/conditions and the 'Rona was that final straw (like several of my sister's in-law relatives)? Nope, that doesn't match the script that's already been written. (Edited to add this) And to those that think the unvax should not be admitted into hospitals, REALLY? Since when do you become the arbiter of who is "worthy" of treatment and who is not? This alone frightens the hell out of me. I really wish the mod would close down these postings. We've beaten it to death and nothing changes. Give info of where shots are available; give info about whether or not kids are back in school or what the latest regulations are, but shut this down when it becomes personal. And for some, it always becomes personal.
  9. He's also very good at responding to Whats App. It may not be the same day but nothing I have is a rush.
  10. Sadly, our last 3 visits to them were very disappointing. The ribs were average (probably leftovers from Tuesdays) and the last time we were there, they served them with french fries that were either recooked or cooked in very old oil. They were inedible with that overly crisp and greasy texture to them that makes me think they were refried. We're taking a pass for a while and hope they get back to their old standards because they used to be so good. My Greek wrap has always been good but they stopped giving tzatziki sauce, although advertised, and have tried on several occasions to substitute it with tartar sauce...ugh! Service, though, is always very good and the staff is friendly, so we will give them another chance down the road.
  11. Check at Pancho's or Superlake. I know we bought Cross & Blackwell(?) locally. I'd try Pancho's first since they seem to have a tremendous amount of imported food items. Good luck!
  12. When the new 500 peso bill came out, I used it and some change to pay a bill. The vendor kept looking at me and repeating the price. I kept looking back like, "What?" Finally, he looked a little more closely and realized his mistake. Whatever the Treasury folks are smoking, it's STRONG. Here we go again...
  13. I have seen the error of my ways! Thanks to the insightful DM that I received this morning (subject line was "sad emojis"), everything has become clear! No more logical arguments for me, trying to read both sides of an issue and even - GASP! - sometimes changing my viewpoint, no, from now on, I will wait to receive this type of argument because it was so clear, so impersonal and such a great way to convince me that I've been wrong all along! virgo lady 717 Started conversation: 8 hours ago Dear Ding-a-Ling, Get a Life. On a more serious note, I really thought about whether or not to post this. After I stopped laughing when I first read it, I realized that it puts everything I feel about this topic in a nutshell: there is a group that is so self-righteous that they believe that if they're unable to convince others of their viewpoint that it's perfectly acceptable to be a bully. There is so much more I'd like to say, but it won't change a thing -- on either side. To those that contacted me via DM and have given support, thank you and I won't "out" you because no one should receive these types of messages.
  14. And maybe Mommy can't read or is trying hard to keep her lollipops. I will say this slowly: I. HAD. THE. SHOT. Got it? Just because I was forced to do it doesn't mean I have the arrogance to tell others to do so. We are getting into frightening times when people like you have no problem telling others what to do and using every means, both legal and questionable, to do so. You may feel righteous now, so enjoy because next time it could, and should, be you. Geezus, give it a break and move on to someone who actually wants your "guidance."
  15. Sorry, but you're not my mommy. I am old enough to make my own decisions concerning MY health.
  16. Go right ahead. I've had the vaxx but we are getting in very dangerous and scary territory when we MANDATE this vaccine.
  17. What I find sad is that when opposing folks give an opinion, we are "uneducated," "in denial," or some other patronizing word because we're not falling in with the party line. Somehow, that makes us yokels who've never seen running water, soap, or any other cleanliness product. I previously mentioned my sister's vaxxed BIL dying in hospital and reported as the virus -- what they failed to mention was that he was obese, diabetic and 79. The man was already one step in the grave before he passed. It could have easily been the flu or anything else that got him but it was the latest bug. There are many just like him that are reported as the bug when 1 of who-knows-how-many other factors would have done it nearly as soon as the bug. It was just a race of what got there first. Scream your lungs out all you will, the "facts" can be tweaked. As for me, I will continue to take off the mask whenever I'm outside and have a chance to breathe fresh air. I will continue to follow the rules because I am a guest in this country. I will do nothing more than what I am required to do. I a neither anti-vaxxer or a denier; I am an adult with free will and find the condescending posts of other to be just mind boggling. Do what you need to do to keep you and yours safe but don't you dare try to tell me that you know best for me. You don't.
  18. I am not portraying any picture of the issue, you are. I am stating my opinion, observations, etc. You are insistent on insulting and pushing a view that you want to cram down others' throats. I chose to observe before jumping. Unlike you, I don't believe it's my place to tell others what to do. This is all I have to say on it as you will no more convince me of the "righteousness" of your views than I will you. If you're right, you have my permission to dance on my cremains. If you're wrong, life goes on. Either way, it's not for you to tell others what they should and should not do. Don't agree? Then avoid them (me).
  19. And they are getting boosters and still getting ill. My point was not to be "willfully dense" or to insult others whom I disagree with (ring a bell?), but simply trying to make the point that this is new territory that we're in...every day Fauci changes his tune and every day we're told something new. Meanwhile, both vax and unvax are in the hospitals and will continue to be so. It's not your place, nor mine, to make judgments about them. Yes, the vax reduces the chances of becoming ill, but it appears so does maintaining your weight (and who knows what else?). Can you look in a mirror and not pinch an inch? If you get hospitalized with COVID, not because you weren't vaxxed but because you're morbidly obese, does that make you fair game? So, if not blindly obeying those who seem to be blind themselves makes me dense, well, DUH!
  20. OK, sorry to be posting so much under this topic, but I just came upon this and found it very interesting. I'm not saying it's the be-all, end-all but this isn't the first time I've read something along these lines. Thoughts, anyone? https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/the-coronavirus-attacks-fat-tissue-scientists-find/ar-AARCqfv?li=BBnb7Kz
  21. From Mudgirl: "In addition to the points Ferret made, the unvaccinated infected clog up the hospitals, taking up beds and resources that have led to people who require non-Covid related care unable to get a bed, often with dire consequences. " So, could you please explain to me why my sister's sister-in-law, fully vaccinated, etc, is taking up a bed? Or her vax brother-in-law who took up a bed AND DIED? I guess anyone who doesn't fall within the party line should just be tossed out? Sorry, Granny. Guess you should have taken the flu shot when you had the chance? Oops, Uncle Charlie -- sorry about your liver, but you DID have drinks during your lifetime. OK, enough of being silly. My point (duh) is simply saying to use absolutes gets us nowhere. None of us is judge and jury for those who are admitted into hospital. You don't have to agree with one side or the other but the sense of righteous indignation that oozes out of some of the posts just leaves me shaking my head. Be like MaineCoons or Ferret and give us valid points to consider while giving your opinion. Who knows? You might change a mind or open one up a little.
