  1. When we first came to Mexico 22 yrs. ago we asked a friend here what the difference was in Blanco, Reposado and Anejo tequilas.

He told us that the Blanco is what the local gardener drinks mixed with squirt,  Reposado is what he sipped as an after dinner drink or served the priest when the priest came for visit.  When I asked about the Anejo, he explained that was what he served the bishop, if and when he came !   😉

Last Thursday night...yes, the night before Good Friday....my refrigerator died. I bought bags of ice from OXXO, then began making calls. Gualberto did not answer his cell phone or his home phone. My pumber/electrician agreed to come the next morning, but he said he might not be able to fix the refrigerator. He was right. He called a friend who repairs appliances, His name is Jose Morando. His cell phone number is 332-965-8298. He lives in Chapala and has a workshop/store with refurbished appliances on the Libremiento.

Jose came to my house in west Ajijic on Good Friday. He determined that the circuit board had died. Unfortunately, the are no replacements for my 15-year-old refrigerator; but Jose said he had a similar GE fridge at his store. He went back to his shop, then drove back to  my house where he successfully switched the circuit boards. This was a temporary fix to get me through the Easter weekend. He did not want to charge me anything, but I insisted on paying him.

On Monday I checked out new refrigerators at Tio Sam's and another appliance store. I almost had a heart attack when I saw the prices. I called Jose. On Tuesday Jose returned to  mi casa with a helper and a two-year-old, side-by-side, GE, stainless steel refrigerator....just what I had wanted...complete with ice and water dispensers....at a price much lower than what I had seen in other stores. Jose even returned that afternoon to give me a tutorial on how to use all of the buttons on the control panel. I plan to use Jose Morando for all of my appliance needs in the future!

    Does Jose speak English ????

  3. On Nov 9th. I withdrew 10,000 pesos from my Canadian account and it was debited $811.00 Cdn.  Yesterday I again withdrew 10,000.00 pesos and it was $894.00 Cdn.

Living in Mexico is not as inexpensive as it was.... but it sure is warmer ! ! ! !

While we are "snowbirds". but we have been "migrating" here for over 20 years.  We were fans of Rick's restaurants (burgers and breakfasts...).  He DOES know a good burger... from experience making them.

I also miss this "Corned Beef" !!!!

Heidi and I went today....cant wait to go back. When Niisas restaurant first opened, it was owned by a gentleman named Carlo and his chef was Chuy. After a time there was a falling out between Carlo and his partner so Carlo left. A short time later, Chuy did the same. Well, they're back! The restaurant is directly behing Farmacia Guadalajara here in Ajijic.. Their dinner meun looks incredible but we both ordered from their lunch special board. I had the Pastrami sandwich  tand Heidi had the burger wich, IMO, is by far the best burger we've had here at lakeside! Big, juicy full size burger! They're open 12:00 to 8 Monday through Saturday. We also split a piece of home made lemon pie. The bill came to $420 including 2 cokes. We love it!

<snip>  Heidi had the burger wich, IMO, is by far the best burger we've had here at lakeside!<snip>

    Better than Beto's?

Not sure that the Transitos are included in this action.

I'm pretty sure that the Municipal police and the  Public Security Department of Chapala are 2 separate departments.  The local "police" - including the "transitos" are the first responders.  The  Public Security Department of Chapala are the investigators that follow up on crimes that have taken place.

"Starting today, Tuesday, March 19, 2024, starting at 8:00 p.m., the entire Municipal Public Security Department of Chapala Jalisco will be working undpaer protest. But we will be attending to reports and any emergency that occurs in the only units that are in optimal conditions, safeguarding the well-being of the Chapalenses at all times.

This, due to the lack of seriousness and concern shown by the authorities of our municipality. By failing to give us a response to the request that we formally requested from the Interim President. Lic. Gamaliel Soto. Where we made public the abuses, misconduct, harassment and harassment that we have been suffering from the Director of Public Security Alfredo Ulloa. And where we request his dismissal as commissioner.

We were given a deadline to resolve this issue being today. But so far we don't have an answer. Denoting a total lack of concern for the very important issue of the working conditions of the entire Public Security department of the municipality. Who in turn serve all citizens. It is for this reason that we want to make public our position regarding the lack of support from the authorities who are supposed to ensure the good of the citizens and their workers. We regret the inconvenience that the current situation may cause you and we remind you that we are only asking for decent treatment and the necessary equipment to be able to serve you in a better way.

    Sincerely:

The Public Security Department of Chapala, Jalisco."

  9. The following was published in the local OJO magazine in 2014:

Wcross.jpgould you believe that Free Mason Benito Juárez was the one who decapitated the Catholic Church’s control with his Reform Laws of 1859? Would you believe that Masonic Lodge Member and Free Mason Benito Juarez would become President of Mexico in 1861? Or that Mexico did not have another great president until almost a hundred years later, with the election of Free Mason Lazaro Cardenas? But before going further into the fascinating history of the Mason in Mexico, let’s find out who these mysterious Masons are and what they stand for.

A Mason is obliged to obey all moral law and believe in one supreme power. Atheists and agnostics need not apply. Free Masonary is open to men of different religions. Jews were in fact admitted not long after 1723, in the earliest days of Free Masonry. It is not necessary here to discuss initiations and recognition signals among the Masonic order, but to simply say that Nazis surpressed Free Masonry and to this day membership in the order remains illegal in many former communist countries. It is clear that the Masons, or builders, who term God “The Master Architect,” were Masters of their craft and no building has ever been constructed without a Master Mason. No one knows for sure, however, when the Mason´s order developed its religious overtones but there were rituals for initiation and legends connected with Hiram, Soloman¹s master mason. In John Huston’s great film of the Kipling classic, The Man Who Would Be King, the Masonic Emblem that Sean Connery is wearing (purportedly left behind by a tribe once allied with Alexander The Great) saves his life.

There are Masonic manuscripts preserved in the British Museum dated 1390 but the first formal merging of many types of Lodges occurred in England in 1717. Shortly thereafter, the first lodge was founded in Mexico City. The Spanish Inquisition started in Mexico in 1738 and by 1796, they had destroyed the Masons in Mexico. Free Masonery is still condemned in many Catholic-controlled countries, although an inquisition seems a rather strenuous way to express one´s views.

In 1825, American Ambassador Joel Poinsett (whose name the Poinsettia flower carries) founded five lodges in Mexico with the authorization of the Grand Lodge of New York. There was little agreement between the older Scottish Rites so in 1826 the National Mexican Rite was formed. Over the next 120 years, the Masons kept a relatively firm political grip on Mexico. The Masonic Presidents included Guerrero, Pedroza, General Bustamente, Santa Anna, Farias, Gil and Sales who reinstated the Constitution of 1824. Between February of 1857 and 1859, the new Constitution was put into effect by Juárez and the Catholic Church was out. The church then petitioned the European powers for help. Maximillian was the result. By 1868, Maximillian was with his maker though his wife Carlotta lived until 1927, finally dying in a mental asylum in Belgium.

Thus the enlightened hand of the Mason fell on Mexico. Absolute freedom of the press was instituted, along with the abolishment of all privileges of the clergy. Other measures struck hard at laws attributed to the clergy in respect to civil business; betterment of the moral state of the country came about with the  elimination of the monopoly of the clergy in public education; finally, capital punishment for all so-called political transgressions was done away with.

Nowhere, through revolution and inquisition, war and invasion, has Free

Masonery had a greater positive impact than on Mexico and its people.

  13. I phoned Mario at Michael Merryman's Ajijic Electronics about my disappearing channels.

He made the following suggestion below.  It does seem to work to restore most if not all of the missing channels.

We have to do it several times a day and for each channel that we want to watch but it is a good work-around.  Try it....

"Push in your Shaw remote the next sequence of buttons:

Options – then1122, then select with right arrow X8L, then enter then exit.

If you don’t get the channel, push channel up and then down. and for sure you will get the image other wise call to the office. 376 766 1117

    Cheers

    Mario"
