  1. Uh oh. I have Telmex, not Telcel. I assume that makes a difference.
  2. We are going to San Diego from Chapalalandia next week. Can I use my Mexican cel phone due to our proximity to Mexico in San Diego? Worth a try? Thanks in advance for any info.
  3. He was back in business in front of Super Lake yesterday and today. I saw him packing up to close at about 3:00pm today.
  4. My beloved Sanyo internet radio died last year after about 17 years of great service. No one has been able to fix it anywhere around here. So now I'm looking for recommendations for a replacement. The old radio could search by country or by genre or both, ie, genre within country. That worked just fine for me. It cost about $150 USD way back then. There are dozens of brands and models of internet radio available on el Mercado Libre. So specific recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I even noted that some of the radios for sale only play their own proprietary stations...not interested. Actually, for all those years, that old Sanyo was pretty much exclusively tuned to WNYC, public radio New York City. Thanks for helping in advance.
  5. Or just go to a hardware store and buy a replacement handle for a "swinging" tool like an axe. They are well balanced and IMHO more effective than a baseball bat. Easier to find as well.
  6. And they speak fluent English, so you should have no problem communicating.
  7. Pretty much, yes. I picked up dinner to go tonight. Is that noncompliance?
  8. My wife is preparing for life after a broken hip. When she gives up the walker, she wants to try a couple of the "ski poles" modified for terra firma. What are these called? Where does one buy them? Are they available in the Chapala area? So many questions. We are returning from the beach for a week or two tomorrow, so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  9. Do you have any references for that assertion? Considering the great respect that Mexicans give to their elders, it doesn't sound a likely note.

be very careful. Rios really messed up a good friends eye doing a cataract surgery. He put in the wrong lense, corrected it the next day. He never should have done the 2nd surgery so quickly. Much trauma to the eye. It has been 6 months now. Opthomologist is the States said she needs a corneal transplant. There is a lawsuit against Rio and he is not cooperating...will not produced court ordered documents. Buyer beware here in Mexico

  12. Where did you come up with this statistic? I guarantee you that most homes in the area do NOT have water filters, only gringo homes have pressure systems and water filters. I don't know of more than a handful of (upper-class) Mexicans who have filtered water and pressure systems. Maybe 5 to 7 percent of homes have filtered water Lakeside, certainly not more. Are you making assumptions about where someone visiting here might automatically stay? If so, you are doing a disservice to the OP. He/she could stay for a lot less money in a home without purified water and be happy as could be. (I am now seeing that a lot of other people spoke up about this before me, but I'll post this response anyway.) Good luck and don't worry about the water.
  13. We lived full time Lakeside for four years while spending more and more time on the beach in La Manzanilla, originally to rescue our Airdale terrier from the terrifying fireworks of San Antonio fiestas. Now we live on the beach 8 to 10 months a year and Lakeside in San Antonio Tlaylacapan the rest. Why? There are no humpback whales singing loudly when one dunks the head in Lake Chapala.
