Art Xik Xik Master Art Lecture Series presents Maestro Antonio Lopez Vega Friday December 19th, 2014 at 5 p.m. Private Residence/Gallery in Ajijic Maestro Lopez Vega is a native son from Ajijic. He attended the Children's Art Program at the Lake Chapala Society and was mentored by Neill James. He was selected as one of only two promising students to be sent to the Art Institute in San Miguel de Allende. Antonio not only succeeded in his classes there, he eventually was selected to be on the respected art school's faculty. Maestro Antonio Lopez Vega will be showing his canvas paintings, sculptures and new works at the reception. Sales of his works will be available the same evening. This is to be an intimate evening with the artist and dialogue. The number of tickets to the event will be limited. Tickets will sell fast. Tickets are $200 pesos each and are available at Diane Pearl Coleciones in Ajijic. We hope you can join us.

  4. Planting A Seed Of Hope Organic School Garden Fundraiser for the Ramon Corona Elementary School in Chapala Community. Saturday December 6th, 2014 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Huerto Café, 212 Hidalgo (carretera) in Riberas Del Pilar (next to Zona Gym and Toscano's Restaurant) An afternoon of fun filled activities will be the theme of this one-of-a-kind fundraising event to happen in our own backyard. The afternoon will consist of a silent auction of donated items, music, ballet folklorico dance and a photography exhibit of the progress of the school garden. Food and drink will be provide by Huerto Café (no host). Admission to the afternoon event will be a donation of a new or used garden tool or $100 pesos suggested donation (no one will be turned away due to lack of funds). We are asking for any of the following items as donations: new or used wheel barrows, rakes, shovels, hand trowels, pitchforks, garden gloves (small sized), watering cans, earthworms, heirloom seeds. All proceeds of the event go to assist the Ramon Corona Elementary School Organic Garden. The food grown in the garden is necessary to feed the families of the 40+ students of the 4th grade. Weaving Week In Axixic Semana de Tejido en Axixic Oaxacan traditional rug weavers, Lucio and Antonieta Ruiz, will demonstrate the processes for making a traditional Zapotec tapete or rug: Carding – Washed wool will be carded to make fiber ready for spinning. Spinning – The carded fiber is then spun into yarn using a traditional Zapotec spinning wheel. Dyeing – Using centuries old knowledge and techniques, the yarn is then dyed into various colors with plants and insects.
