  1. Yup, patina on copper is what makes it valuable but to each his own.
  2. The price will probably go up. It's a great alternative for folks who have no other decent choice.
  3. The good old days...when Bruno himself used to bring out the white board.
  4. Yeah...and if you want to come in the back room I have something to show you that is so hot I can't even display them.
  5. Yes, memories of El Serape. Great margs, food up and down but generally better than average. Remembering Marco's nephew, Martito, walking down to the liquor store a block or so east for tequila. There was no liquor store right next door. Then whipping up the margs for us and asking Marco how old the boy was. Uh, 12 or 13, not sure! We're not in Kansas anymore.
  6. ...and can the "Guess the date of first rain" contest be far behind?
  7. No application needed for up to three ranks higher. Deeper research needed if trying to go above that to avoid detection.
  8. We used to tell friend that from roughly mid-Nov to mid-May PV had the best weather we had ever lived in, including Lakeside. Between times was hot and humid. October was worst with usually cloudy, humid and no breeze weather.
  9. Rick and Sarah were more interested in converting half of their house into a bar. Reminded me of the old song "I'm gonna hire a wino to decorate our home". Sad
  10. Exactly...and I know, from working at a large one, how much they like to make money. Since no company that I know of will write collision/comp on a Mexican plated vehicle you can be sure they are all convinced doing so would be an invitation for big losses. It ain't some big conspiracy.
  11. Generally considered the second hardest language to learn behind only Mandarin Chinese.
  12. Actually USPS has a free box for Cremated Remains and yes it ships Priority Mail. Include the special tape and everything. So the trick would be to order it online foe delivery to whomever would be actually doing the mailing for you.
  13. If you want some ideas about production values and a great YouTube experience watch some of Traveling Robert. He consistently wins lots of awards there and has a large following. I don't believe he has been to Lakeside but lots of other places around the world and especially the USA. Born in Cuba now living in Miami. A joy to watch any of his videos.
  14. Get on the website, make your down payment and get on the waiting list. If you change your mind you get your deposit back.
  15. You are probably correct that they have stopped accepting packages without a US return address. All due to the anthrax issue of several years ago. Maybe using a friend's or relative's address for the return would help.
  16. Hmmm....our mail carrier just picked up 3 small packages from our porch about a half hour ago. We usually have 2-10 every day going out and so far, so good. Not sure where you got that idea. Just remember anything over 1 pound goes Priority Mail. You will have to look up the cost on their website. You will need to know the Zip Code of the city where they will enter the USPS system. Time consuming but very doable. Figure around $6 or less up to a pound.
  17. OK, did not realize that, thanks much.
  18. How many are flying in on their personal jet? Asking for a friend.
  19. Visit with a Notario long before you plan on selling to learn all the steps you need to take to either avoid or minimize your Capital Gain in Mexico. We had to switch some utilities to be in my wife's name otherwise she would not be exempt. Don't count on a Realtor to guide you through this. They don't get paid for it and thus may not have your best interest in mind. Been there, done that and paid 0 Capital Gain. Edit: Adding that I believe the utility switch to my wife's name had to have been done at least 90 days before the sale, so 3 statements, yeah, hard copies, what else in Mexico. Make sure you have all your legal documents, both people, when you go to switch. Much more complicated than when we set them up. "Why are you asking us to switch?"
  20. Thanks for that. We both live (lived) here in Alamo Country Club. He gave me his address shortly before we moved here and said to stop by and say hello. That's not my style so I emailed him and he said he wasn't well enough right then but he wanted to meet up. Shortly after, Covid struck and sadly I did not get the opportunity to meet him. We both grew up in Upstate New York and had some similar interests. He had a wonderful life story to tell. He had a great job with Eastman/Kodak that took him all over the world. He quit that job and he and his family bought a boat and sailed to the South Pacific for several years. Yeah, he really did that. They left Chapala to go to a lower altitude and they ended up in Tucson. For whatever reason, that didn't work so they moved here. He and MC were friendly adversaries on this board. We have a very popular FB group here of only owners but I rarely saw any posts from him, just a few from his wife. I asked him if they were going to the Pot Luck back when we first got here and he replied "Pot Yuck". We differed on our politics but his life experiences made him a person I would have liked to have known better. RIP Bob.
  21. The way "government" is widely pronounced...and probably the way it should be spelled to more closely resemble what it actually does.
  22. Pay a lawyer and get the real answer instead of some gringo "opinions". Sheesh!
  23. Sorry to hear about slainte. We sometimes disagreed but I enjoyed the back and forth. How long ago?
