  1. Geez, OK, OK you win if the Pillsbury Bake-Off is the Gold standard. I yield to your expertise. I don't enter Chili Cookoffs or Bake-a-Thons and yes, of course you meant to quibble, haha. I guess if you don't grill a USDA Prime rib eye you are grilling a substitute. So the question really is: is a homemade substitute better than going without? We report, you decide. Saludos
  2. If you like to drink it straight up I agree. I just made 3/4 cup yesterday for use in a blueberry muffin recipe. Everyone liked them so much they're gone today. If you can find the real stuff or powdered, by all means go for it. If not, homemade beats going without.
  3. Much easier to make your own. Milk and vinegar. http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-make-a-quick-easy-buttermilk-substitute-cooking-lessons-from-the-kitchn-185757 Works fine for me.
  4. Tough to implement in real life. Unless you travel with it chances are any medical help will in fact try to resuscitate. Once hospitalized, a talk with the people responsible and the AP in the presence of a witness may well be all you need. If not competent, you next of kin or best friend, etc. MAY be able to discuss your wish with the doc. Having the document you ask about could be very helpful so make sure the right person has possession of it. My wife had a very nice phone conversation with the doctor in charge of her dad's care. The doc explained her dad was not competent to make medical decisions and that in the absence of a DNR they would be required to do so. She asked if he would place a DNR and the doc agreed and a couple of months later he suffered another cardiac arrest and died a peaceful death. One to one is many times better than a legal doc.
  5. Excellent info. I didn't think a 40' could make the turn but obviously I was wrong.
  6. I can visualize where you are talking about across from El Parque. I cannot imagine a 40' Moho being able to turn that corner, but maybe that's just my old feeble brain.
  7. So you would use them again if the need arose?
  8. Wonder how long that post will last. Mod, if you take it down you can delete this one also.\ It is OK your intentions were good as were chillins
  9. First you pointed out a rental in USD, then you say they are illegal. Hmmm.............
  10. I remember many years ago that Mexico was complaining to Canada about their signal bleeding over and stealing business from SKY. I assume Canada said sorry, we didn't mean to and we'll fix it next time. Perhaps next time is coming.
  11. Yes Pete and I have no dog in the fight. It seems to me that Shaw is telling people they will not notice any difference if they have upgraded. Implicit is the assumption that the hardware is in Canada not somewhere that it's not supposed to be.
  12. What am I missing? You have an $11/mo (US) electric bill and you want to spend money to reduce it further? Does that make economic sense?
  13. There is plenty of volunteer charity work available.
  14. I'm not recommending this but I have a friend who says the cheapest way is to buy one on eBay. Used. Then find an audiologist who will work with you and tune it for your particular hearing loss. Could be your recently deceased uncle and you inherited it. Wink wink.
  15. I'm not an EE but I understand supply and demand. I would like to have both a hearing aid and a nice diamond for my wife. I am not willing to pay the going price for either but I am not in the least bit bothered by someone else setting the price. My choice, I don't like Big Brother sticking his nose in those things. Don't inject drugs if you don't want to get Hep C.
  16. Yeah I agree. I bought the same item and then priced a diamond and they wanted 1000 times that. How can that be?
  17. Makes sense but a nice Mexican airline employee advised to get in the Mexican line and all was well that time. Next t we got the lecture but were passed through. Been here long enough to know "it depends ".
  18. And which line do you get in at Migracion? Mexicans or visitors? We were advised Mexican by one person, all went well, and the next time we got a lecture that we are not Mexicans.
  19. Time for a visit from John Taffer?
  20. Haha, yeah I should have complimented Ken on his unusually good directions. I thought I inferred it but obviously not. How many times have people told me "it's about 2 blocks from Oxxo" and here in PV there are usually 5 or 6 Oxxos in the same general area. Almost as bad with Pemex.
  21. Directions in Mexico usually include "It's close to..........". Usually Oxxo or Pemex is involved.
  22. There are gardeners and there are waterers. The waterers outnumber the gardeners in Mexico by about 50-1. If you find a gardener keep him/her any way you can.
