  1. New diesels use cat converters. Not sure local diesel fuel is good for cats. This has nothing to do with DEF but should be considered. Anybody know??? Local diesel smells of Sulfur to me.
  2. Telmex uses Fiber to eliminate some of the long copper runs from switch to house. This allows faster speeds even with copper to your house and old modem. They also have wired Fiber from switch to new fiber modem in your house in some areas. Both systems improve internet speeds as a rule. Go ask Telmex if they have higher speeds available in your area. Friends in northern La Floresta got ILOX installed and when they went to return modem Telmex said why didn't you ask us as we have faster speeds available in your area. Folks responded we already asked you months ago and you said you would let us know. So it probably would not hurt to ask (yes again I know) as they don't seem well organized to compete with ILOX.
  3. My Net Talk VOIP phone just plugged into an internet jack on both Telmex or ILOX modems.
  4. Oh God its the spelling police. Let it go everybody knew what the person meant. Please yourself.
  5. You can quote the law all you want we have found many places, banks and government offices who will NOT accept a Mexican Notary. My wife was an attorney, real estate broker and a mobile notary and for the vast majority of US notaries they cannot sign and stamp in any state but the state they are licensed in. A few exceptions in a few places exist relating to corp law and international signings but the vast majority of notaries cannot sign in Mexico. Also be aware when you sign you write the place of signing and I bet no one writes down Mexico. Go to the Consulate and pay the money and remember it is per signature and many documents have many places to sign. Yes it is expensive but it is legal.
  6. To be clear I was a prepaid soul. Original install in Los Salvias. Moved to SE corner of San Antonio near La Paz almost to Mirasol. Many people have been installed who are not prepaid. My neighbor who walked in to Ilox was installed before I was installed. It happens all the time and not a big deal. It all depends on many things including the quarter of the moon 🙂
  7. Install was great. Expect person to show up late my noon appointment was closer to two. They get backed up sometimes. His spanglish was great and he was a pro. Last step was showing me on his laptop the speed directly connected to the Ilox modem of 290. My WIFI running on 5000 band line of sight to modem was 50 to 100. Testing using normal 2400 WIFI was 40 to 60. WIFI results using my high power Access point with external antennae. To be frank the Ilox supplied WIFI is pretty low power and I tuned it off to avoid WIFI contention for bandwidth (button on side of FiberHome modem). The only negative other than the public IP issue. He was neat in running his wires, polite, clean and what you want in a tech installer. I tipped him 100 pesos as these folks work hard going up and down ladders avoiding my electric fence and such. This was a move from Los Salvias in Ajijic to the south east corner of San Antonio. FYI you move your own modem. Good luck folks!!
  8. I moved from Los Salvias to the south east corner of San Antonio. They are just starting to do installs as I know two people who were installed in this part of town in the last few days. They are suppose to be at my house at noon. Wish me luck. FYI if you move take your modem with you and go to the office to arrange for install. It was painless and the fellow was very nice and helpful.
  9. Thank you for your help Michael has been found and wallet has been returned.
  10. Mail me on this board with your last name and I will return your wallet to you. LCSCATS
  11. Net talk used it for five years. Very reliable and cheap. Buy two of the adapters so you have a spare if needed.
  12. In the past they charged per signature. Modern real estate contracts can have many places to sign.
  13. New policy. They did tell me for what it is worth that they are trying to change the policy for this branch.
  14. Very good point and I should have pointed out this situation. We still keep a legal full house address in the US and legally live in both countries.
  15. According to State Vial police testing has been suspended. My info is about a month ago. So are people just quoting a suspended law or did something change????
  16. I was told by Bancomer it is 1000USD but you can write multiple checks. My info is about a month old. We switched to money transfers companies. Suggest Zoom and XE and you do have to do a little bit of answering questions and such when you set up. Even had Bancomer asked questions also. Best solution that we found. Better exchange rate than Bancomer also.
  17. US consulate is the only legal option with a few rare options generally for corporations and such. Bet any notary working here won't say its signed lakeside and that should tell you something. I have heard about remote notary work but know nothing about it.
  18. I carry a small trash bag and some hand cleaner and pick up trash everyday along the highway when I go for my morning walk. Good to know some one else is doing the same thing. It makes you feel good and its good honest work. Try it. (Do take hand cleaner it is messy sometimes or one could use gloves).
  19. Yep this is frustrating but not surprising its a brand new system. I use a higher power (800mw) access point with SMA connections for external antenna and various antenna like corner loads like a Klipch corner horn and a 30 ft better quality cable and 12db gain antenna. Nice part about this system is you don't have to change numbers to switch to telmex as all you do is switch the input cable to the local Telmex modem from the ILOX modem. No numbers to type. Also I can move the long wire antenna to anywhere I need it. This system punches thru mexican walls. Telmex WIFI is actually decent. ILOX WIFI is kinda weak and I turn it off. IZZY WIFI is kinda weak also. I have not seen the WIZ new modems so I can't comment on it. So where do you get this stuff? I mail ordered it in US and brought it down with me. Also Fry's in US is another good source. Maybe the technology center in downtown Guad might be a good source but I don't know. Does anyone KNOW that you can buy this stuff in Guad??
  20. Yep every year had to recoat even using the five year. So this year I went over the whole roof with a hammer found the weak spots especially around the cracks and coated with two full strength coats of five year roof coating after fixing the bad spots in the roof. No leaks now.
  21. Wow Mudgirl you must be a blast at a party! Who peed on your wheaties this morning?? They asked what I payed and I told folks. We also do much more for her and others like supporting her granddaughter so she can go to high school and Techschool or whatever she wants after high school. We just finished getting one local kid through high school and now we are putting him through college. He is the first kid ever to finish high school in his family. When he finishes college we will give him a trip to the US on us. Is that enough for your standards???? Really you shouldn't judge folks until you know them. Oh yea we loaned her family with no interest money to buy a truck after the family rig was stolen. They paid it off after six month as thats the kind of folks they are. No I am not a goody two shoes but I do think about my adopted country and the people. You comments to me are why many folks won't post on this board.
  22. I raised my maid to 55P per hour. Paid 50P per hour for years so time for a raise. Also give her 10P for bus trip home. Vacation time and Xmas bonus also. She runs when she cleans needs no direction and always shows up or calls. She is part of our local family. We also get a nice gift for her when we travel. Some say we pay too much. I don't think so but can understand how others might feel different. She works four hours on our house and two in our casita a week. A good maid is such a blessing and a bad one is such a pain in the butt. We have had them both.
