  1. Dang, Angus! Your speed rocks! I live near Mike the Computer Guy and am thrilled with my speed, especially formerly living in Santa Cruz and only got 1 -2 Mbps down. I use the $599 package and the Telmex guy said I could downgrade to the $299 package and get the same internet speed. But, daddy told me don't fix it if it ain't broke. I am scared to do anything that might cause me to get other parts of lakeside speeds. I think the key (in addition to having "backbone" access) is making sure you have the correct modem that can handle it. There is some difference in Telmex modems. I'll let Mike explain that. I think it is ADSL vs some other kind.
  2. I know an Uber guy who is reliable. Among my friends (I think 4 times, now) he has always been on time. Rufino Rios rfnrios@yahoo.com 744-254-4885 mobile
  3. Curmudgeon, I have the same as you, a Mexican Will for my Mexican assets and a US Will for my US assets. I did use a Notario here in Mexico, where a copy of my will is retained. Because it is registered, it cannot be compromised. I think what Spencer was pointing out is that US Wills cannot be registered as US Wills, in Mexico, and if an unscrupulous preparer here. alters a US Will, it could create problems. I scan my stuff because I have one of those $80 color inkjet printers with a scanner (you know the kind that Gringos use to scan their driver's license in color and get popped for attempted forgery) <g> and send pdf versions to my attorney in the US -- of my Mexican and US documents. I often include the EDT Notice below. which can be modified for your particular needs: EDT (Electronic document transmissions) shall be deemed valid and enforceable in respect of any provisions of this Contract. As applicable, this agreement shall be Incorporate U.S. Public Law 106-229, ‘‘Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act’’ or such other applicable law conforming to the UNCITRAL Model Law on Electronic Signatures (2001) and ELECTRONIC COMMERCE AGREEMENT (ECE/TRADE/257, Geneva, May 2000) adopted by the United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT). EDT documents shall be subject to European Community Directive No. 95/46/EEC, as applicable. Either Party may request hard copy of any document that has been previously transmitted by electronic means provided however, that any such request shall in no manner delay the parties from performing their respective obligations and duties under EDT instruments.
  4. 4 times last night in Riberas and 3 times, so far, this morning.
  5. Times are changing. Some folks, especially the elderly cannot deal with 100 degree plus temps in their houses, well past 11 p.m when the outside cools down to 80. It seemed like every 3rd person bought a fan walking out of Walmart today. The power has gone off 4 times in the last two hours (briefly, but off) in Riberas, possibly because of all the extra fans. We even looked at getting a hotel, but none I know of in the area have air conditioning either. Some friends like to go to the movie theater during the day or casino and cool off... even if for just a little.
  6. It was not my intent to be "homophobic." I thought I was humorously pointing out that gay night is Ajijic is Friday nights. I guess my humor did not come across as funny in some circles.

  7. Speak for yourself, Chillin! I have to walk with my back to the wall in Ajijic on Friday nights!
  8. I am in Riberas and after the storm, lost Internet and my local phone. Then I lost electricity for about 18 hours (brown out type of loss... not enough to run a computer, but the modem lights showed that it was connected to the Internet.) The local phone came back on almost immediately. Internet was out 30 hours or so. Internet came back on, but the local phone was out for 2 - 3 days. Both Internet and local phone have been on for the past 3 days.
  9. Barcelonaman is correct. It is a fluke thing here in Mexico. The sender needs to put a "1" after the country code and prior to the area code when sending to cell phones.
  10. Also the same as a speeding ticket and turning without the flecha. But, at least they will let you pay on the spot and save you the trip to pay the ticket. Very friendly.
  11. My friend left her visitor visa in the nightstand and didn't realize it til she got to the ticket desk. She checked her bag, and they gave her a ticket to take to the immigration window. They charged her $500 pesos and stamped the ticket or some form (I don't recall.) She went back to the ticket desk (they motioned her to the front of the line) she gave it to them, they issued her a boarding pass and she was on her way.
  12. Bwahahaha. Good one, Tiny. Me, too.
  13. Lost internet almost all of Wed night/Thursday in Riberas and lost electric all night last night at about 9 pm until 5 a.m.
  14. This is the style I have come to know that is used lakeside. They shoot fairly high and then explode.

  16. I, too, saw the Merida article at https://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/expats-go-home-the-debate-continues-over-loud-noise/ I suspect there was some politically correct editing and the locals were shouting "Go Home Gringos" not "Go Home ex-pats" I would hate to see that sentiment metastasize here.
  17. A lot of banks in China, Hong Kong and a lot of Europe are closed Tuesday, May 1 for "May Day"
  18. Thanks for the replies. If you need a Petition for Writ of Certiorari to the US Supreme Court, I'm your guy. But my hands are big, clumsy and uncoordinated.
  19. I have a Cinsa hot water heater, and although outside, it is in a mostly covered, walled in area. During the past week, I have had to re-light the pilot light every day. I know we have had a couple windy days, but not every day. My suspicion is leaning toward a problem other than wind. Any suggestion on a home repair (bearing in mind that I am banned from the tool department at Home Depot and need an electrician to change a light bulb) or a good serviceman?

  21. I quit smoking in May of last year, with the help of Nicotine patches. I used to get the patches at Farmacia Christina, but by the time I was into Phase 3, patches were no longer available in all of Mexico. I had someone bring some patches from the US, but apparently they are no banned in Mexico. Fortunately, I am still cigarette free. I understand the e-cigs are also banned. (But there seems to be an open black market for them and the liquid.) Good luck with your efforts! It is really tough the first month, but then gets easier. (I did not say easy, I said easier... e.g. than the first month.)
  22. I saw this neat gizmo on NewAtlas. No idea if it is any good or would help, but it is interesting. I like that it has a library of 31,000 brand name paint colors. Nix Mini Lets You Capture Colors from the Real World — Now 30% off Painting a room, designing a site, shopping for a car — there are countless instances in which we need to examine color. But the human eye just isn't built for comprehending the minute details of color. The Nix Mini, however, is. This color sensor will revolutionize the color delivery process and present you with instant color matches. Simply scan any color critical surface, save it to your phone or tablet, and match it to an existing color library of more than 31,000 brand name paint colors, as well as RGB, HEX, CMYK, and LAB colors. Goodbye, guesswork. Read more
  23. I have never been late on a phone bill here for over 10 years. (Twice I was at the most two days late due to travel.) TelMex has called me with automated messages for the past two day in a row threatening to cancel my service if I don't pay my phone bill immediately -- a bill that is not due until tomorrow! But what about the $5,499 credit to buy stuff from them printed on my bill? Apply it to my bill that is not due! The bill is very clear and shows my last payment and the fact that there is no balance, other than than this month... along with the due date of 12-ABR-2018 Is anyone else experiencing this?
