  1. Apparently they love Mexican Chayote Squash in India. This video is funny towards the end when the translation sort of goes off the rails. Lots of recipes for Chow Chow - the vegetable not the dog.
  2. Governor Hogan, I forget from which state (I am not American, on my planet we do not tolerate political parasites) has admitted to three shots.
  3. Liked this one on Facebook. It is politicalish, directed at Greg Abbott, Republican Governor of Texas, a very vocal critic of vaccines and masks, etc. Now he has covid, and is apparently scared out his mind. This is a sanitized version. "If the Covid can jump to Greg Abbott-We are screwed!"
  4. Seems like our mountains repelled it to the south, another range turns it south of Puerto Vallarta, rockets through Barra de Navidad, gets to the ocean, doglegs North, then either builds or dissipates until it gets to land, with no more mountains.
  5. She is unlikely to prescribe those heavy drugs, unless you are dieing. She does do natural. She does use radiofrequency to kill the nerves which are causing the pain. This also requires a flouroscope, a type of xray machine. Occasionally the nerves grow back after six months and you need another treatment. I need a hip replacement. Please PM (private) who to avoid.
  6. If you are serious about this, visit a proper pain clinic in Guadalajara. Dra. Rocio Valencio has been recommended to me. Best to setup an appointment by email. Her English she is not so good, eh. http://centrodeldolorguadalajara.com/
  7. Yes, I have the same problem Pete. They will not accept rum or brandy and coca cola as a legitimate medicinal use.
  8. Zeb - be aware that many doctors will be on a two week vacation beginning Sept 1st.
  9. It is not a stupid question at all. It is all one big crap shoot. Some examples? I was diagnosed with an anti biotic resistant e. coli UTI. I spent weeks in hospital over a period of months, with a heavy duty antibiotic drip, and think I tried every antibiotic recommended by the lab. Would not budge. They decided since I was asymptomatic, they would just keep an eye on my kidneys. I went to a Urologist, who prescribed a common anti biotic I had not tried, as well a 3 month prophylactic antibiotic, the e. coli cleared almost immediately and has not returned. My wife developed a sore on her toe. She consulted with two podiatrists, a dermatologist, a wound specialist, an internal medicine specialist, a circulation specialist, and finally an orthopedic surgeon. He wants her in as soon as possible, next week, to have a portion, or all of her toe amputated. The specialists had messed around with her toe for so long that the infection got into her toe bone and they don't want it to spread. So you never know. Hospitals are places people go to die. Palliative care here is not even close to what they offer in the North. People lie to get their loved ones in private care or general wards. I have witnessed the deaths of at least six patients, including a young man who seemed to have everything going for him. Do everything in your power to stay out of hospital. Eat right, keep your weight down, do light cardio and weights, watch out for too much booze. You know all this stuff. It is better than any insurance policy and more likely to produce benefits. Insurance companies are notoriously tight fisted on payouts.
  10. Again, too many variables. Depends on the doctor. Too many attach themselves to what they perceive as sick, dieing creatures, and try to suck their blood ($$$$) out before they die. The biggest tell is that they work in US dollars only, and do not offer receipts or facturas.
  11. Welcome back Senora M. You need internet to get those dogies moving - keep up the good works.
  12. Hope that AMLO gets out of his socialist stupor, and follows the US lead in letting private enterprises to sell and administer vaccines. The country would be fully vaccinated by the end of the year.
  13. 54,000 pesos for a one day emergency visit! I wish I had your sort of money, I guess the used junk business is more lucrative than I thought.
  14. Hound Dog is just pineing for you Senora B.! I have had a bad experience with Dra. Carla. Watch your wallet, she charges the same rates as a top specialist yet she is a GP. She will try to send him to a specialty private clinic in Guadalajara. I would recommend Dra Gabriela Flores at Quality Care. They charge specialist rates for a housecall, 1,000 pesos, but she is also an internal medicine specialist and an ER specialist. She was head of department for both these fields in a busy Guadalajara general hospital. She has seen, or treated 1,000,s of patients. She knows how to do stitches and quickly diagnose and treat medical problems. She is also very smart at drug interactions and keeps excellent digital records. She may be reluctant to do housecalls for new patients, if so, just drop my name Gary Waller, and she will be alright.
  15. Screw them and all the doctor pirates who work there. A woman on Facebook is appealing for help. Her 2 year toddler was admitted to SA hospital with Covid. She died. The hospital is demanding 70,000 pesos blood money ransom. A cautionary tale folks.
  16. Back in the day, as they say, no. Remember Al Gore didn't invent the internet until 1983.
  17. Coca Cola is an easy one. The secret ingredient is a lime leaf, probably Makrut Lime, and they import large quantities from the Carribean. They used to import a lot of coca leaves, they were shipped to a waterfront warehouse just south of Puerto Vallarta. The ruins are still there. Now do you want to know how they get the caramel in Caramilk bars?
  18. You are an explorer Pete. We have never met, but you used regularly to go to the pier, and throw in a string with a weight to measure the Lake levels for us. A well overdue Thank You!
  19. Ferret. Maybe I can help. About ten years ago there was a scandal involving three companies in Guadalajara who were selling fake generics with their own packaging, etc. It was a very dangerous event because the companies often packaged one placebo pill for every full medication pill, for example. The Jalisco and Federal governments came down on them very hard, with big fines and prison time. They also hired many more inspectors, who were also themselves inspected to greatly reduce chances of corruption. The bad actors today, stick to illegal drugs, like meth. One of the major ingredients is Ephedrine, which grows abundantly in Mexico as a wild weed. Partly because of this, Ephedrin, which is highly effective allergy and sinus medicine, is banned in Mexico. Quinine is also banned, because poor women were using it as an abortion pill. Quinine was used to treat some forms of malaria, but it is also an effective treatment for many people suffering from muscle cramps and spasms. You can still import Quinine bark from the USA which afficionados use to make their own tonic water.
  20. If you want a real treat, try to find an African yogurt culture called Amasi. Easy to import. It is so tasty, ferments in 24 hours at room temperature, and the healthiest source of pro- biotics - it even kills/eats e. coli. Use pasteurised whole milk. The food of the Zulu warriors. Then you can make Pap Slap. This is a cornmeal gruel cooked into lumps with butter and salt. The Africans use white cornmeal. You can use any cornmeal, like they use for grits or polenta. That is the Pap. The Slap is the yogurt curds on top. It can be made sweet, with fresh fruit, or savory, with a soft boiled egg.
  21. Best Labs is good, they will come to your house, all masked up etc. About 150 pesos.
  22. Many of the specialists at Quality Care have had poor experiences with the Radiology department at SAH. The most recommended Radiology by far is Banuelos in Guadlajara. They offer better pricing and vastly superior diagnosis. They are a third generation lab. Look them up on Google. Very recently they were able to do an MRI for my wife's foot, with dye contrast, which SAH cannot offer.
  23. A fool's paradise. It is better though, since you used to have the largest tope before San Juan Cosala, right in front of your house. Magnet for jake brakes and drunk drivers. And by the way, you can give yourself a Mexican name, as a rascist in joke for your old hockey goats, but you are in Mexico now. If you want a Mexican name you should at least be able to speak Spanish above toddler level, if that, especially if you have been here full time so many years PETER.
