  3. Auto Zone at the Walmart intersection will test the battery for you. Just drive uup and go and ask for test. They will do it in the car and show you the test. They will replace it if needed quickly. They did this to my dying battery 2 months age.
  4. There is too often "a cloud on the title" of much of that property. I have known gringos who have lost their homes after many trials up to the supreme court of Jalisco. The court ruled that since they gringos had built a residence they could live there until they died or moved but then the property went to the pretender who had never paid a centavo of taxes. They seem to come out of the wood work over there. The pretender to the property claimed that the property had belonged to his collective family many years ago and that when it was sold all members of his family had not signed on to the sale. This was several generations ago. We haven't had title companies here in Mexico like in the USA or Canada but several years ago Stewart Title had opened here (Guadalajara). They were actually researching the titles back for many years and if they approved you bought their title insurance. There were many properties they would just not insure. In theory Notarios research the title and insure that it is clear and seller has the right to the property and to the sale. In reality courts often overturn the Notarios decision on the title. I don't know if Stewart Title has survived here. They are really big in Texas. If I couldn't get title insurance I wouldn't play their shell game.
  5. Of course it could be mostly folks interested in pain relief who just won't take their narcotic prescription because they are afraid of it's side effects.
  6. As I recall NAFTA exempted autos from duty, including used cars. When the deal was done and signed all around the Mexican auto dealers assn. raised cane and Mexico never honored the used car importation rules. It they had there would be no need for the $300 deposit. In the late 80s and early 90s folks used to drive to Panama or Costa Rica and sell their Travelalls for more than they could in the USA and fly home. Not a bad way to spend 2-3 months. None of the countries going south needed a deposit including the country where you sold the car.
  7. We have used Intercam and gotten pretty good rates,. They skim about 70¢ to 75¢ (centavos) off every dollar. The Very best rate will be at an ATM, you get very close to actual FX rates. Check the actual rate here
  8. Interesting side note: Years ago the GR article said the bomberos hate fighting a fire there as there were too many rattlesnakes. I hope they have snakeproof gaiters. I am always amazed that snakes seem to survive the brush fires. It is probably the same guy sets them year after year.
  9. Maincoons, please post exactly how to delete duplicate messages. This is a much more common problem than before the update. I have and I can edit but do not find any delete. Thanks

PS might make it a sticky topic

  10. Thank goodness the driver was in a light weight golfcart and not an automoble as she could have been.
  11. Peter, here is one for sale in Calgary: Shaw Direct HDPVR630 Advanced HD satellite PVR MPEG4 receiver HDPVR 630 DSR630
  12. I have changed VoiP vendors and the new company uses a Linksys SPA-2102 adaper. My previous company used a PAP-2 but it was locked so I am trying to install the SPA-2102. The insrtuctions for forwarding port on my Telmex Infinitum_EchoLife-HG520b router don't seem to work. I enter my static ip address and it does not go to the router/modem, it just times out. So the router is not seeing the telephone digital adapter. Any suggestions?
  13. I've never heard if a bait. They only eat live bugs. The spray is effective in killing them before they sting anyone. Having your home sprayed will have the secondary benefit of controling the palmetto bugs, roaches. The Home Defense spray from Costco or Sams in the gallon spray bottle works well but don't expect to last 6 months here. Cynoff is really toxic and will last 3-4 months.
  14. Some chiropractors buy very evpensive machines and than want to use it to pay for it on EVERY patient. If you just have a hammer then every problem every problem looks like a nail. I'd see Dr Victor Youcha.
  15. The Prepaid does not allow use in USA. I changed to ATT Mexico on a two year contract and get unlimited data and calls to and in USA and Canada.
  16. Don't over look one of the huge benefits of the solar panels that you might not think of: that they eleiminate the inch a day evaperation. Evaperation here is a big problem especially with any winds which are common at night. Of course you know that evaperation is a cooling event. It actually lowers the temp. We can roll up the cover with spouse and me before we get in pool and then pull it back over the pool before we get out of pool, pretty easy. Good solar panels offer 1000 BTU per sq/ft The other choice is a heatpump but you would need a photovoaltic system to operate it they use lots of eletricity.
  17. The solar cover can be attached to a roller that is as wide as the pool. My pool guy cranks it up by himself. When I do it, my wife gets on the other end to keep it even. Most panels available here are 1 meter wide and either 10' or 12" long. It is true it is impossible to bet it to 85°F during November and December. USing gas is very expensive. Of you have room on the ground you cah nave an low cost rack made to get them up off the ground or you can put them on a nearby steep slope..
  18. Thank God they never promoted those All Electric Homes here like they did in the USA in1965-75's. Mexico is one of the most expensive cost per KWH in the world. This may be the only place on the planet where you can get a 2.5 year pay back at 26¢ per KWH.
  19. There is no MRI machine at lakeside. You might ask at that new hospital going in to Jocotepec. You may need a doctor to write the instructions as to anatomy area in Spanish for the MRI tech
  20. Please remember that the people do NOT live in/on the USA economy. So you want to raise them because the imported items you use cost more but they don't your employee more? So you really think that you can lower their rate of pay when the dollar goes down? If this is what you are after get them to agree to be paid in USD equilivent. The USD is massively over valued and economist everywhere think it is going back down. It has been at historic highs against world currencies for two years now and has increased more with more light on the horizon in the last co,uple of months. Ask your help if you can lower their salary when the rate goes back down. I can guess what the answer will be. Why change it only when the dollar rate changes, change it with the euro too. If you wan to be a reasonable person watch Mexico's announced inflation rate available in Janurary and adjust wages for inflation 2-5%. Having a company that had 1oo+ persons for years I can tell you that the business schools recommend that raises be based on increased performance, or better performance. Rare is the employee who is perfect. So the only possible justification for a raise is inflation or better performance. More work in less time perhaps?
  21. Do you recall the current price fot the Taxi

    Thanks
