Cousin visiting soon and she wants a tattoo. Where would you recommend she go lakeside?  Thanks

    I would recommend Chapala Ink.

It is across from OXXO on Pepe Guizar.

If coming from Chapala Centro turn right at pemex it is last on left. If from Ajijic turn Left after Soriana and first street on right across from Oxxo. Tell "El Negro" "Gringo Loco" says hello. You can get a good burger at the attached restaurant "Burger Ink" which is in google maps if you need further direction

  2. Got a Netflix notification of a new Documentary about the 1MDB scandal and I am Watching "Man on the Run" at this very moment 8:20pm Friday January 5th.

I have. Had glitches like that happen and I have had to do everything from Turning the TV off, Turning the Router off, etc

Experience with getting an Uber in Guadalajara to Ajijic.

It can be hard sometimes. I have done it. I asked the drivers why they are here.. Most tell me they have picked someone up at the airport or Guadalajara and they wait in the area to see if they get a return trip. A few have been in membrillos just across the mountain and come over to Ajijic when hailed by the app. If you have an appointment I would try early.

I had a HUGE drop in range when I went from Telmex's ADSL to their fiber optic router. Multiple friends have said the same.

2.4 gives much more range than 5.0. I can still stream off of the 2.4 speed. Telmex must have different boxes, because when I am at one of my friends, the 2.4 option isn't available. 🤔

I've got an external router plugged into output 1 that vastly increased the distance.

I've been told to only use output one if doing this. I do not recall why; but it works.

Everyone should login to their routers. They come from Telmex at Medium Signal Strength. You enter an IP address and it access your router. Hundreds of settings one being signal strength and another set channel to auto. If it detects for example your neighbors router it will select a different channel to help with interference. I believe the router page to login is 192.168.1.254. You enter this in your address bar. Like where you enter telmex.com

  5. It depends on what type of router. Internal antenna or external.

    It also depends on placement.

I have found that the rebar in the concrete can even effect the signal.

You also can login to your router and put strength at Maximum.

192.168.1.254 is the address you put in the address bar and you will be presented with logging in to your router. They come from the factory at medium strength. There are many settings and pages. You can rename the wifi to broadcast HOME or SMITHS instead of Infinitum##### You can change the password. If you ever forget it just reset the router. (The tiny button) it will revert to factory settings. You can also setup multiple wifis. It can broadcast several names. Each with its own password. Great for guests. You will see when you login to router and look around the pages.

You can also set auto channel. This will help it avoid any other routers nearby using the same channel.

You can also buy an after market router with Four External Antennas

I used an ATM recently at CTBanco.

Below is the letter of what happened, published in the current Guadalajara Reporter.

    Michael Forbes, editor
    Guadalajara Reporter
    Dear Editor:

I used an ATM in Ajijic and got no cash. And things went downhill fast.

On May 11, I used a CIBanco ATM in Ajijic to withdraw $10,500 pesos from my USAA checking account with a debit card. The requested receipt slid out showing a $10,500 withdrawal. But no cash appeared.

CIBanco brushed me off, saying to report the incident to my bank. I  reported the matter to USAA. A USAA dispute resolution team received from CI Banco what it called documentation that $10,500 was received.

USAA showed me CI Banco's "documentation" upon which USAA based its decision in favor of CI Banco. I couldn't make any sense of it. I saw nothing that had anything to do with my complaint, no numbers corresponding, etc. Nevertheless, USAA deducted $607.79 USD from my USAA checking account, apparently reimbursing CI Banco.

In deciding in favor of CI Banco, USAA, in effect, found  it plausible that the ATM that day issued $10,500 pesos, that I got it, and am now claiming I didn't in order to get it again. It's ludicrous.

I am 91 years old. I have no history of robbing banks. In fact, it is devastating to lose the $10,500 pesos that I expected to use to cover my growing medical bills along with basic monthly expenses.

Clearly, USAA failed in its responsibility to me, as I told them in subsequent communications, written and verbal.
Which so far got me nowhere.

ATM no-cash incidents happen; however the ones I've heard about have been resolved to the ATM-users' satisfaction. Nevertheless, ATM users are at risk with certain banks with malfunctioning ATMs.

What will become of my efforts to regain the $607.79 USD I lost to a bank with a malfunctioning ATM? Not even the Shadow knows.

It has happened twice to me. I could hear the machine twirling away. It finally stopped and no money. I also complained with USAA and they won. I started using my cell video. No problems just delete when done. It happened again. This time I had a video that it never dispensed the money even though it gave the receipt. I showed them everything from selecting the money, everything including the screen going back to the next customer.

It was still a huge inconvenience waiting. But they credited my account pretty quick after getting the video. I hope they told the Mexican bank. Maybe they will think twice before they do it again. At least take them off the advertised Atm network.

What if your Spanish isn't up to par?  Between hearing loss and other factors, mine isn't.  Is there an English speaker there?

You could copy to a piece of paper and show them the paper. I would maybe say Lo siento mi español no es bueno

  8. If you currently have the old Telmex and your asking if you should get fiber I don't think you have a choice. They replace the old cable with the fiber.

But if you are asking because you have a different company Telmex fiber works a lot better and a lot faster. With no down time or slow times. than the other old cable.

  9. I regularly pull 20,000 from Banorte in Chapala across from the Church near Malecon.

A little trick to know in case you don't. If you use an ATM here make sure to decline the conversion. Many people think if you decline it stops the transaction. It doesn't. They want you to use their rate if you decline it reverts to the current rate listed by the card you use. It is always a better rate than local banks have. Pulling over 20,000 and declining their rate will save you a lot of pesos.

I am trying to order 3,500.pesos order. I aways pay cash on delivery, today it is asking for payment info, i click on and it will not go thru.  I need some of the things to so will have my driver take me this afternoon if i Cant get order to go thru...HOORORS

Have you used cash before? I had no idea you could pay with cash.

  11. I agree with what you have done. I also did it and was questioned once and started to count my items out loud to the employee and asked it multiples of one item counted as one or individual. She walked away.

I now do not go. I joined walmart pass for about 500 pesos a year. I have also received a coupon every month so far for 200 pesos so i have recovered the initial annual cost.

Walmart pass you order online and they deliver. The first few orders were a little difficult but you can use the app to scan the barcode of your items or search.

Once you start ordering it has your normal ordered items and you can also mark favorites.

Now i simply select how many and place the order and select delivery time. Not even stepping inside the store anymore.

    Self checkout from the couch.

I assume I will have to eventually at some point go inside for a coffee machine or something.

  12. Checkout at Walmart has been pretty bad for sometime.

I recently signed up for the Walmart Pass.

I think its 400 pesos a year but you get a coupon every month to use at checkout. They have 200 pesos. That alone is worth the membership.

With the pass you order online and they deliver to your house. These type things like Uber Eats, Rappi, are normally only available in the larger cities like Guadalajara but this works. I live near Santa Cruz.

When you first order I would suggest marking favorites so on the next order it is much faster looking things up.

If your good with apps. Download the walmart app and you can scan your items barcode.

When finished you select a delivery time from a list of available tomorrow times.

I have found that if you place the order at 2 pm or later it will be next day delivery.

I give the Driver 100 pesos. But with the coupon I am still ahead. I am probably saving another 50 pesos in gas and hiw much is my time worth??? It has been excellent for me.

My neighbors are even jumping in and asking me to get a few things for them. They love it. It takes them 2 buses to Walmart and 2 buses home and that takes hours.

No more worries about the frozen food melting waiting in line.

No more waiting in line. No more driving to the traffic zone in Ajijic. The pass has been great for me. They only reason we go now is to see something in person like looking at a TV or Microwave etc.

I would think it would be good for those that have difficulty getting around and those that do not have a car and pay for taxi.
