URGENT Looking for a House Sitter?
Natasha replied to Renee Groot's topic in Ajijic/Chapala/Guadalajara
And f0r the many, like me, who never go near FB??? -
Yeah... it's a REALLY big 2-storey with 10 ft ceilings. Built for a growing family of 5. Don't ask how 2 people (and several pets) use ALL the space.... but we do!

New thread to report and recommend. Aljibe portion: Before you ask..... 4 ft W x 11 ft L x 9 ft deep. Via local Mexican connections found Daniel Enciso cell 331 344 3806 , jefe at main San Antonio pozo (well). Came Wednesday 9 a.m. to insert submersible pump. Back at 2:30 with BIG pressure sprayer machine and a helper. Down there until 5 pm, pumping out rest of water & guck from bottom and cleaning/inspecting walls. Also found 5- gal pailful of tree roots invading (from outside our wall). Luckily entered above aljibe "wall" so no cracks (he inspected carefully). Cut off roots at source. Discovered the valve connection between float and water ingress was broken. I got plumber/elec guy on the line ( knew each other) and they discussed parts needed. Cleaned up after themselves perfectly! I spoke Spanish with him. Did not ask about English, but he is happy to come and quote/do work. Balance of job: Thurs Antonio Navarro 331 115 6014 ( excellent guy known over 12 years) came with parts for (known) tinaco repair plus aljibe ones requested. Brought 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch valves since he hadn't seen. Naturally was 3/4 inch---- 5 x the cost!! (brought hardware bill) but unavoidable. ALL work done---- aljibe, pump, tinaco thing, and a few other picky things on roof. Here at 9. Gone by 11:15. Perfect job at about 35% of prior quote (plus new stuff for aljibe portion). Speaks English but has old style cell so no whatsapp, etc. Said he's happy to do work but warns he's very busy so sometimes people have to wait a day or three. Makes sense because he's a really knowledgeable guy. NOT prepared to get into various opinions of what/ how to do things. Want more info? PM me please....and have a GREAT day!

Do you have a contact for them¿? And did they use a pressure washer once the draining was done? -
Very dirty, large aljibe with mud/silt in bottom needs draining/cleaning ASAP. Please reply ONLY if you have satisfactory personal experience with person recommended. Had one lined up but problems arose and have to start over. Location central San Antonio. Gracias

Which Cash Machine to change a PIN #
Natasha replied to Karina G's topic in Ajijic/Chapala/Guadalajara
(1) She's talking about a Canadian credit card (2) Not everyone (me included) HAS a Mobile Banking app (3) You then refer to the PIN assigned to "...your Santander ATM / Debit Card..." don't think that was the question..... -
Which Cash Machine to change a PIN #
Natasha replied to Karina G's topic in Ajijic/Chapala/Guadalajara
Do you do on-line banking with your Canadian bank? If yes, either phone them or go in and send a secure message, telling them the problem. If your MasterCard came via them (our Visa cards are linked to RBC) they should be able to help you. -
I guess you don't watch the news..... reporting that many who have the Delta variant now had already been vaccinated TWICE? Or the fact that being fully vacc'd does NOT prevent you getting sick... just hopefully not AS sick as you might have been? You don't have to LIKE wearing a mask....nobody does.... but it beats being in an ICU or having severe after-effects several months into the future. So I'll be sure to watch for you on the streets of SA if I'm out so I can cross the street to avoid being in contact.

BUT.... Canada does not recognize many of the vacc's used here (Sinovac, Cansino, etc) so if that's what one has had, they will still be required to quarantine on arrival there. -
Well we've been here a LOT longer than you, and trust me.... we knew some of the victims. Maybe you don't have enough connections within the Mexican community to hear all of what goes on up there. And to be clear.... I dind't say "crime wave"...... but I do insist you are not self-protective enough.

Another option is Sra. Rosario (Mexican nurse) who does all different kinds of in-home care /stays. Highly recommend her. Cell 333 947 7504

OK... have to weigh in with another possibility nobody has mentioned, altho' the presence of a realtor makes it a less likely possibility. Chillin' mentions Chapala Haciendas. Can't say in very recent years, but there was a time a while ago that there were MANY home-invasion robberies, often at gunpoint, and including more than one where occupants were killed. So absolutely Chillin', you SHOULD contact your landlord. For all you know the people were there on a pretense solely for the purpose of casing the joint, to return (or accomplices) later to do the job. You're being naive if you think you should just "let sleeping dogs lie". The landlord (like mine, also a lawyer) would quickly put the word out that he won't tolerate this behaviour and believe me, the message would be received. NOTHING works better than the "Mexican Telegraph". Many years ago our previous Mexican landlord put the word out in the 'hood after a we arrived home to find a broken window and signs of someone being in the house (nothing gone... we got there in the nick of time). He too was feared, went directly to the local small-time "gang", and I can promise you nobody tried again for the next 7 years we lived there.

HELP! Please help save my life.... UNGENT.
Natasha replied to AngusMactavish's topic in Ajijic/Chapala/Guadalajara
A little off the main topic BUT since Angus is there, and others might consider it, please take note: Cihuatlán (where he went to some kind of small clinic... not the place I saw on TV news this a.m.) is in the middle of a "more-then-they-can-cope-with" outbreak of Delta Variant. Hospital is overwhelmed, plus does NOT have good ICU equipment if/when needed. Spreading to other towns nearby---- 3 whose names I didn't write down in time, plus showing up in Manzanillo. That means Barra and Melaque can hardly avoid it. Suggesting NOT a good time for anyone to be thinking of a trip in that direction. -

And on TV this a.m. they showed a bunch of parked pipas being vandalized in Mexico City. Like private people can affect AMLO's *¨Ç*?% decisions? -
You are aware you can't just come here and immediately be allowed to work? The "American School" in Guadalajara might be starting point for possible interest in your skills, and things you have to do for permits etc. apart from residency requirements. (Mr. Google is your friend)

Just called a Mexican nurse I know who does home nursing services etc. and who knows "people" in various places that have them, and will rent them out. She's checking the closest available and the cost (told her one month) and she'll get back to me ASAP: If you want to call me (land line) it's 376 766 3580 OR call her yourself directly if you speak Spanish: Rosario 333 947 7504 -

Angus i know nothing about this equipment, but I did find them for sale (several models/options) on both MercadoLibre and Amazon Mexico. Also, I THINK I remember that Sra. Lidia, who supplies in-home nursing care etc. in Lakeside area and who has/had a connection to the local medical supplies store might rent you one.Her cell is 333 156 9080 Doesn't exactly offer you the fastest/best solution, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. Pretty sure IF you have to buy one that MercadoLibre will get it to you faster than Amazon Mx. And GOOD LUCK -
