  1. I went to Walmart and they used to have lots of house phones and they do not any longer which seems to indicate the demand is down , so they have them on their site and so does Amazon etc.. so what, the demand is down and they will disappear. I have fiber so I do not use a home phone any more so bye to the house phone. I do what I need to do with my cell phone or my tabletand the people I know are doing the same thing..
  2. not everyone has a cell phone but those who do not will soon be gone..Even my mother has one and she is 101 year old. I do not know people who do not have a cell and I work with indigenous and some of them cannot read or write and the have smart phones and communicate via audio messages. I went to walmart to get a house phone and I did not see any. They are on their way out Telmex has a few and the internet..I know many people who do not have a house phone they are being replaced by cell phones.
  3. there ARE COMPANIES THAT WILL SELL YOU WHAT THEY CALL GIUAS.. You prepay the shipment via these comapnies and get a large discount with any of the usual package companies like fed ex estafeta, dhl etc In Chiapas we use Huipix but I was just with a friend from Oaxaca and they use another company something pak.. I am sure Guadalajara must have such companies. You need to know size and weight you can use bank cards to pay. I do not know if they speak English either.
  4. regular telephones are also getting harder to find ,
  5. If it is legit just get it printed at the papeleria in San Antonio. That is what I did..If it is not legit then you will need to go to Guadaljara or Ocotlan. The papeleria willnot be able to do it.
  6. and same in La Floresta a round about would eliminate a light
  7. when the governor came the traffic was flowing fine.. They put transitos at the lights and it was smooth going , maybe they should learn from that instead of swamping the strets in Chapal and getting motocycle and other vehicules impounded. When I told the transitos they should be in Ajijic they gave me the name of the boss and suggested that I showed him the pictures I took of the Ajijic disaster.. Only one problem, the boss stops working at 3 and I do not get there untul after 3.
  8. there is a demntia group Lakeside mostly women, one men made of the spouses of the dementia patients. Ask about it at LCS they will give you the contacts. they meet every weeks and exchange information. Lots of very useful information and they know about caregivers , the quality and prices of homes etc.. The could be of great help to you.
  9. when we bought our house the peso was 8 to 1 -....
  10. Spencer is no replacement for a notario. He may use one for his business or work with one but that is not the same thing. Notario come in a limited number , attorneys are a dime a dozen
  11. Beware of the lakeside experts and their pacemakers. A few years ago my husband was toldmby his doctor to check with a cardio. He went to the one recommended by his doctor and was told on that saturday he needed a pacemake rightaway. It was urgent and the cardio offered to take us to Guadaljara that day. I said no way, took my husband home and called two specialists at Puerto de Hierro and made appointments first thing the following monday morning. The two cardiologists that we saw separately both agreed my husband did not need a pacemaker and that electric shocks to the heart was what was needed. They did it and my husband s heart went back to normal and was normal until he died of something unrelated several years later. It pays to get second and third opinions. I just got two lung specialists who wanted me to do a bronchoscopy,I really was not anxious to do that and went to a top specialist in Guadaljara who had me do another scan and cameisup with a totally differnt diagnosis that made sense to me so I am now seeing a gastro instead of doing a bunch of tests on the lungs that did not make sense to me. Find out who the good specialists are in Guadalajara and get second opinions..That is my advice.
  12. that and the virgin of the Guadalupe that goes on for 9 days and end today will give you lots of noise.. then the posadas will start, less noise but another oportunity for noise.. just hold on to your chair until Ash wednesday then it will be almost quiet until easter.. I said almost not totally..
  13. Officially it has not reverted to 2 ways but since rio Zula Linda VIsta was closed all week de facto it had to be 2 ways also the section of Ocampo to 6 Esquinas is de facto 2 ways although the signage says 1 way. Monday I will complain to the commandante of the transito and let s see if they do anything.. They are very busy now stopping the motos without placas and hauling them off. to the pound.. ---
  14. i guess you do not live in the area. Making Ocampo one way before starting working on the portion between rio zula and linda vista is what causes the problem. the streets between ocampo aand zaragosa are 2 ways and people park on them so only one car can get through. Zaragosa is 2 ways instead of one and they close it down to work on the street There was one night last week when I was not sure I could get home at all. Ocampo at 6 esquinas is one way but most people do not obey and the side streets get closed on and off for work.. so there is no way to get through, add the beautifying to the plaza that made the street more narrow and the buses going through and people parking on both sides of the street and you have arguments and scratches etc.. Today I stopped a patrol car and ask them what to do. They told me to speak to vialidad. I got there at 3pm today and the office was closed . Let s see what they say tomorrow. We all know traffic changes depending on the time of the day and for those who have the luxury of being able to escape it , it is nice but people have to go to work, take kids to schools etcc so for people who actually have to get somewhere at a certain time, going out when the traffic is light it is not an option.
  15. not bad?? It is so screwed up that this week there is no way to go home without breaking the law.. I have to take a street the wrong way to get home otherwise I cannot get home. I call that really bad..
  16. There is a true story or a joke circulation amongst Mexican lawyers right now.. A man calls the police telling them that someone is in his yard and is armed and he asked them to arrive as soon as possible. They anser there is no patrol car near and cannot make it. 15 mn the same man calls the police to tell them that he killed the intruder and to please come.. The police arrives immediately and ask where the body is. The man says he did not kill anyone and the police says why did you say you killed someone? The man answers why did you say there was no patrol car available..... and the beat goes on..Viva Mexico.
  17. when I got to Ajijic 21 years ago I bought a house that week in March so I went to the Telares on COlon to celebrate, I tried to pay with a credit card and was told cash only so I went to the bank to get the cash at Bancomer.. kittycorner from the bank.. No money at the bank they had just been robbed..in front of the police .. of course the siren was going and no police in sight. The robbers got on a pick up down Colon, but an old man was trying to park in front of the post office.. the pick up was honking its horn so the old man stalled and blocked the pick up.. The guys at the back jumped off on the street and proceeded to push his car clear accross the intersection and then took of.. FInally the police woke up and ran to help the bank.. A true story... went back to the restaurant told them the bank had no money and they told me to return the next day to pay them.. It was pretty relaxed in those days.
  18. The Minerva has lights the Arch of Triumph does not.. A young woman ask me to accompany her to the place she lived in once and she had to drive accross the Arch of Triumph were 9 or 12 4 lanes avenues enter with heavy traffic, the one thing you remember is priority on th eright and the one that hits you in the back is at falt, close your eyes and go..well my friend friekes and we went around around she was scared of putting th eblinker and bluff her way through, the more you go around and the more you go in the center so we went around and around the center , I know we were going to die of starvation if I did not do something..I told her stop at a cop on the left and I asked him to stop all the traffice so she could get out. He was nice and did it little by little..amongst insults and horns going non stop, I was mortified but we got out. The Minerva is a piece of cake in comparaison.. On this intersection it would not be that bad especially if a transito was there to until people got used to it..
  19. I just had to pay for the deed on 50% of the house after my husband s death and I paid 7 % of the price of the house listed on the predial. On houses that you just purchased I would think th e10% of the purchased price would be in th eballpark. Anyone can confirm?
  20. One paramedic was very decent and he did tell the police that he was more qualified than they were to say my husand had died of natural death and that he did not have suspecious bruises.. They were trying to scare me to extort me, no doubt. Bu the other one sneaked out to make the call. lawyer who worked with one ambulance company told me that some of the ambulance people are in with the police to split whatever they get.. I am not surprised but when in Mexico you have to be aware of the various possibilities. Most of the time people are wonderfully helpful but you have the bad apples who ruin it for others. My brother who died of covid 2 years ago in France was a wonderful guy and was in the job to help people and I had nothing but good experience with paramedics here and in the States but this time I got the bad batch in my opinion,
  21. The buyer pays. The largest cost is the title from issued by the notario .
  22. That has to be better than what we have now.. We have to congratulate Chapala! Actually a round about like what they have i EUrope would be the solution..no lights of anytype with priority to those who come from the right...of course you would have to have driver who know what priority to the right mean and respect it.. two big hurdles
  23. I hope lots of people go to the class, it is extremely important for people to know how to do CPR in case of an emergency. I told the story of what happened to me with cruz roja not as a vengeance but as a warning of what the reality is.. I know that if all the foreigners and some of the Mexican put pressure on Cruz Roja you can get an agreement that they will only call the police after they give the people in the house a warning it will help the community at large. I have left the area so too late for me but for the people who do not want to be in this situation, get together and demand a change before giving your money blindly..
  24. The doctor was the first person I called but at one in the morning , the doctor did not answer until I send a message , the third one ( I called twice and sent a message once) that my husband was ead according the paramedic. As things were going on that night I sent a whatsapp to a friend to document hings and I can tell you that some of th ethings I reported, I do not remember as of this day. This is how I know I went through a trauma and I still have holes in memory of that night although I have them on whatsapp. SO yes I was inschock but bit enough to go to pieces.
  25. I did not have to pay anything on the spot and did not have anything prepaid. The funeral home charged me what whatever afterwards . They were super nice and helpful. The funeral home also reports the death to the US consulate or the consulate of the country the person comes from My husband was a binational and I told the funeral home not to report it to the US consulate as in Mexico he was Mexican and that I would advised the consulate and they let me do this. I di not want any chance of our account being blocked before I changed the place where my social security was deposited.. It took 2 months for SS to deposit to my account in Mexico so I received two cheks for my husband in th eUS account that was blocked. SS asked me for the bank information , The account was blocked the minute I reported the death and SS took the money out of our US account immediately although I could not use the account for 7 months. I am not a US citizen so thing for aliens ca be complicated.. SS cannot go to a Mexican bank and help them themselves.
