  1. No I was being much more selfish. I cleaned dirty diapers and frankly It takes a big effort to want to go back to that versus using disposable diapers.. I also learned how to ron before the electric irons were available as in Europe we got the appliances way later because of the war and I do not want to go back to the good old days.. Also washed by by hand and hang clothes outside and took them down when t threaten to rain and so on and I do not want to do that again either...I can do without a tv but that or electric can openers or knives but that is about it, we could all go back to the good old days but frankly I do not care to.
  2. Have you ever cleaned diapers with blood on poop on? Obviously not if you are comparing that to using the latest electronic gadget.
  3. People in the good old days did not have a choice so really there were no better than today.. no point being self righteous about the good old days. The minute women could get diapers for their babies and did not have to wash the dirty diapers they went on to the new thing...
  4. yes and sometimes a good deal is just that..a good deal
  5. I live in Chiapas and Ajijic. I have a Chiapas driver´s license and a Chiapas address and no one has ever questioned my Jalisco plates.
  6. yes for me Telcel has the better coverage when I travel through Mexico except in my house in Chiapas where Movie Star is way better but on the road Movie Star does not have as good a coverage.. .Sometimes you cannot win.
  7. Go to MY Telcel and see what your saldo is . If you are on a plan the saldo should show as a minus. I am on the 200 something plan and once in a while I give telcel an extra month and it show as a negative so I owe nothing at the end of the month and NO it does not expire.. There is something wrong.. The shop either did not put the money for a year or you are using the internet a lot and go over your limit so have to pay extra.. I would go to the telcel office in the shipping center where the movie house is off the libramiento with someone who speaks Spanish if they do not and ask them about it. Something is wrong and yes you can pay for the plan a year ahead if you want to but the saldo should show..It sounds like you went through it or the shop did not put the money in.
  8. I have had a Mexican cell phone for many years and I do not have your problems. I have a plan that I pay every month via credit card. use the phone for banking and use it a whole lot and do not have any problems so I would not be so prompt to blame telcel. If you do not have receipt , contracts etc to back up what you are saying you are wasting your time with a demand. The fact that you got your smart phone stolen has nothing to do with telcel.. either. If you have no money in your phone you are the only one to blame as well..
  9. My husband uses Dr. Hugo Chavez fron Quality card and dr Garcia Otero from Guadalajara

    Pasta Trenta

The price of seafood goes up during lent as Catholic are not supposed to have meat during that time.at Easter Lent is over so the demand for seafood goes down. Carnaval is Tuesday March 5th so Lent starts on the 6th on Ash Wednesday.
  11. 8 kids are dead and maybe more in the ashes..who knows.. Pure stupidity.. imagine taking kids to steal gasoline.. What we see is greed, thevery and a totally out of control country. Pretty scary to see how many dishonnest people there are...and that s a tiny fraction of the reality.
  12. 8 kids were killed too, who are the $%&/()s bringing their kids to watch or help steal gasoline.. Stealing gasoline is so common that no one seem to want to stop it not the police and not the arly. The army was there according to the reports and told people to get away as it was getting dangerous. Of course no one paid attenton to the warning.. This country is close to anarchy.. army cops and thieves alll there and no one does anything and this has been ging on for years..and then you have all these pick up on the road with large quantities of gasolines in plasxtic containers.. No regard for anyone security it is terrible.
  13. We had an invasion of wht the gardner calls palomillas this year, they look like tiny moths.. The gardner srayed the yard and they died outside. Maybe if you have plants nside the eggs or whatever were there and came out.. There were clouds of them outside and they are not bobos.. the bobos are smaller and fly higher..They are both seasonal .
  14. We have one in san cristobal de las casas as well
  15. what are the brand names? They have nice linens and lamps..and are great for apartment dwellers..I like their kitchens as well..
  16. THis young guy if it is the same( I think he name is Gerardo , bit I am not 100%sure) has a chip on his shoulder and is very annoyed foreigners get the citizenship too easily in his opinion.. His attitude has not changed. The other people are very nice.
  17. no attorney for me only a certified translator French Spanish from Guadalajara. If you speak decent Spanish you do not really need an attorney.
  18. Alcohol tobacco and firearms are all restricted items under the ATF you may want to check the quantity permissible to enter the States.. Also if there are Cuban cigars.. I do not know but I would check this one out too because Trump is sure not helping that relationship..
  19. You may want to look at Abbey Field in Ajijic.. I know nothing about retirement homes hee but I know a man who went ther eafter he suffered a stroke. He liked it very much as he could be as independent as he wanted to , even had his little dog with him bit could have help too.. He ended up very happy fell in love there got married and moved out and now live withhis new family. My mother is 96 and live in a place like Abbey Field in France, she loves t and complain when we go and visit because it takes time away from her scrabble games and little trips with her friends..
  20. the part where you store the water is called pila. people scoop the water from the water reservoir and pour it over whatever they wash. The deep end is to store clean water not to wash clothes.. the scrubbing part is to wash clothes.. I had the plumber drill a hole in the pila and I have a a rubber cover so I can use that part for washing.. I see a lot of people in the communities and no one has a hole put in them as they are not made to empty the water but to be kept full. Recently I was in an indigenous home and they offered the lavadero to wash our hands before eating. I noticed that the Mexico city man who was with me used his hand to scoop the water on the other side..contaminating the pila when the indigenous used the plastic cup to scoop the water to the other side and pour the water over their hands so only the plastic cup ever entered the clean water.

we should start an unofficial list of the sheisters..but many people support these thieves..and believe in them.. It is really scary to see how many people do not have a fifth sense and just trust someone who is nice and speak English.

  22. was 38 in Tuxtla and no one I know has A/C.. I do not know how they can stand it but it is the way it is..Many of them do not have fan and some are afraid of leaving the windows open during the rainy season because of the dengue and Zika.
  23. Actually raising the maids was common in Europe before the war.. The richer families would inherit kids, orphans, kids from poor family and those kids would help in the larger households and eventually become full time live in servants. Back then there was little cash given out to servants many of them worked for room and board and a little spending money so you can see how the word criada came about. The good old days are over and cleaning ladies, caretakers and maids are now protected by laws and are emloyees so the word criada has taken on a bad connotation and the word is not used any longer. In Chiapas it is not unusual to see the word serviente used on adds on doors but I have never heard anyone referred to her serviente either.. chacha is the word tha is the most common here or ayudante..
