  2. THis young guy if it is the same( I think he name is Gerardo , bit I am not 100%sure) has a chip on his shoulder and is very annoyed foreigners get the citizenship too easily in his opinion.. His attitude has not changed. The other people are very nice.
  3. no attorney for me only a certified translator French Spanish from Guadalajara. If you speak decent Spanish you do not really need an attorney.
  4. Alcohol tobacco and firearms are all restricted items under the ATF you may want to check the quantity permissible to enter the States.. Also if there are Cuban cigars.. I do not know but I would check this one out too because Trump is sure not helping that relationship..
  5. What a shame! I hope someone else will give it a try..
  6. You may want to look at Abbey Field in Ajijic.. I know nothing about retirement homes hee but I know a man who went ther eafter he suffered a stroke. He liked it very much as he could be as independent as he wanted to , even had his little dog with him bit could have help too.. He ended up very happy fell in love there got married and moved out and now live withhis new family. My mother is 96 and live in a place like Abbey Field in France, she loves t and complain when we go and visit because it takes time away from her scrabble games and little trips with her friends..
  7. the part where you store the water is called pila. people scoop the water from the water reservoir and pour it over whatever they wash. The deep end is to store clean water not to wash clothes.. the scrubbing part is to wash clothes.. I had the plumber drill a hole in the pila and I have a a rubber cover so I can use that part for washing.. I see a lot of people in the communities and no one has a hole put in them as they are not made to empty the water but to be kept full. Recently I was in an indigenous home and they offered the lavadero to wash our hands before eating. I noticed that the Mexico city man who was with me used his hand to scoop the water on the other side..contaminating the pila when the indigenous used the plastic cup to scoop the water to the other side and pour the water over their hands so only the plastic cup ever entered the clean water.

we should start an unofficial list of the sheisters..but many people support these thieves..and believe in them.. It is really scary to see how many people do not have a fifth sense and just trust someone who is nice and speak English.

  9. All banks are under the same laws guys... you are fooling yourself if you think one does something the other cannot do.
  10. We bank at bancomer and both our names are on the account but I am the primary holder so it is not like you call a joint account in the States but it works.. We also have an account at Banamex where my husband is the primary holder and I am the secondary..
  11. was 38 in Tuxtla and no one I know has A/C.. I do not know how they can stand it but it is the way it is..Many of them do not have fan and some are afraid of leaving the windows open during the rainy season because of the dengue and Zika.
  12. Actually raising the maids was common in Europe before the war.. The richer families would inherit kids, orphans, kids from poor family and those kids would help in the larger households and eventually become full time live in servants. Back then there was little cash given out to servants many of them worked for room and board and a little spending money so you can see how the word criada came about. The good old days are over and cleaning ladies, caretakers and maids are now protected by laws and are emloyees so the word criada has taken on a bad connotation and the word is not used any longer. In Chiapas it is not unusual to see the word serviente used on adds on doors but I have never heard anyone referred to her serviente either.. chacha is the word tha is the most common here or ayudante..
  13. What is this? "The pot calling the kettle black¨contest?
  14. Are you guys assuming that those over 60 do not take the test or is it confirmed? Since the test or the study for the exam changed so much maybe the rules changed too.. By the way check the US test before complaining about the Mexican test, I bet you many US born citizens including the present president would probably fail..
  15. English rose you are paying for what your are using minus what you are producing, since you cannot change the output you can lower your usage and you too will pay less.
  16. High end modern furniture in Mexico is all designer´s made and the prices are high, only the upper classes can afford them so there are no deals to be had.. Go to Mueble expo with an interior designer in August in Guadalajara and take pictures and see if someone can reproduce what you want or si if you find a company you like,,there is a bit of everything there.
  17. A friend of mine from Canada has been sending me some pictures of modern Mexican designers that are popular in Mexico , they do exist, I would think that Mexico City has some great modern designers,, it is a question of finding them but they do exist, I have seen them but not in stores. Maybe in Santa Fe.. I would ask in a Mexico city forum. Modern Mexican is in vogue now and it is pretty minimal..
  18. I used to have a property manager who told our cleaning lady to ask for a raise (which by the way I give every year) because the dollar had gone up. I fired the manager , that is what happen the last time someone told me to follow the rate of exchange of the dollar.....
  19. not enough ventilation? HUmidity seeping from outside? Clorox will kill it but it will come back if the cause is not removed..
  20. I had a drain installed in the lavedero as well. They are great to wash by hand but the emptying by hand does not get it . Any plumber can do it. I France the water end was way deeper.like 3 feet deep so we could soak sheets..we also had drains.. I guess the lavadero here reflect the fact that many houses did not have running water so you did not soak clothes and you did not use a lot of water to wash. The board is great for heay clothe like jeans but I would not use it in delicate fabric,
