  2. I have lived in Mexico over 18 years; here in lakeside for 14 of them. We never went back to the U.S. for anything until 2010, when we attended a family funeral near Monterey, in California. We returned to Mexico after only a few days. At that time, the change in attitudes and the higher stress level were so obvious that we were glad we'd made the decision to move to Mexico. Life is good here, especially after one gets over "needing" products only available in the U.S. It's the same with "needing" U.S. medical care. I've had better experiences here, with much more caring medical people. I've enjoyed the changes and have no desire to take yearly "shopping trips" to find things people can't find in Mexico. In other words, the more people can adapt to "what is", the likelier they are to be content here. As for the increased traffic, I lived much of my life in the Los Angeles area, so I find that complaint is downright funny! When we lived in Laguna Beach, it normally took my husband over two hours to commute to his job in central L.A. It usually takes around 20 minutes to get from our house in Ajijic to Pancho's: 30 minutes when the traffic is bad. I think more people are coming here lately because the Boomer generation has reached retirement age and the economics of living in the U.S. are getting more and more difficult for them. (They are probably going to give other reasons for the move rather than admit that😉).
  3. State Department Federal Credit Union. Good rates; no problem with Mexican addresses.
  4. If they happen to have it available (not always), try the New York style cheesecake. Delicious! They had it today. Yum. They now have a menu with a number of new additions. For dessert, they now also have apple pie.
  5. Yes, both me and esposo have Starkeys. I didn't hear this well with other brands. I change batteries once a week. I also use the heated container for them at night. It helps. But yes, the clogging is something to contend with constantly. Truth is that nothing will replace natural good hearing. In my case, the hearing loss is hereditary. My dad was stone deaf at 70, so I'm grateful for the advances in hearing aid technology in the years since then.
  6. Another un-backed up statement! What, exactly, happened? I had three broken fingers and since my QC orthopedist wasn't there that day and this required "right now" treatment, I went to the SAT emergency doc and was treated promptly. I also had to spend a night there with other problems, also okay. Expensive....yes.
  7. If everyone using it is considerate, there will be no problem.
  8. My question is: Since pedestrians can legally walk on the Malecons or on any street, why not ban pedestrians from using the "bike" path? How about getting serious about enforcing the rules regarding the Malecons for the safety of pedestrians there? That would be the bans on bicycles (of any type) and unleashed dogs. Those of us who are "elders" and/ or unsteady on their feet have a serious problem there.
  9. I am also very hard of hearing, and have done my best to learn Spanish. I can usually understand what I read. My main problem is understanding the Spanish spoken by both natives and expats. This would not be solved by Mudgirl's suggestion, alas. 🙃
  10. Dr. Jessica Flores, general practitioner. Both my husband and I have been her patients for years. Speaks English. Practices in Ajijic on Guadalupe Victoria near the Plaza Bugainvilla mall. Guadalupe Victoria 101C Phone: 331 050 4287
  11. Wild guess: a Superlake. Their present location is a parking nightmare.
  12. The very qualified doctors of Quality Care use the Hospital San Antonio next door for many of their procedures. I would recommend using them rather than the doctors on the hospital staff. I had to spend one night in that hospital, but found the staff to be very attentive. Since I have no health insurance (couldn't qualify) I paid out of pocket. Didn't consider it unreasonable. ...just another experience.
  13. I tried the same store, and never found it open recently. Got a new watch band from a seller at the Wednesday market.
  14. Good primary care doctor who my husband and I have used for several years: Dra. Jessica Flores Guadalupe Victoria, Ajijic, #101C phone: 331 050 4287 She is also involved with an assisted living facility in the area.
  15. We'd like to go there for lunch, but parking is a problem on the side street nearest the "no steps" door. Does anyone know why the main parking lot across from the main entrance to the restaurant seems to be closed most of the time now?
  16. Amazon carries them. Just enter the name of the item as above and several entries pop up. I'd check Amazon.com MX, too.
  17. You can rent a wheelchair on a monthly basis from the place in the small strip mall at the West end of Ajijic on the lake side. It's the strip mall next to and west of Mexa restaurant with a liquor store at the other end. I have used it. I don't know if they deliver.
  18. For some unknown reason, the difference in the price of hamburgers is amazing. There are excellent, good beef burgers at some restaurants, including fries, under 100 pesos. Others which are either no better, or sometimes worse, are priced way up there. You have to wonder whether the owners think their customers are stupid, or just haven't made any comparisons. Much the same applies to steaks.
  19. It will probably never happen, but wouldn't if be great if people would just follow the rule of MYOB! !!! (mInd your own business) All critters know what they like. Have you ever seen a cat running next to its "master" ? LOL.🙃
  20. The problem with the telephone appointment system is that THOSE WITH SEVERE HEARING PROBLEMS usually need to use email because they can't use the telephone! Please provide an email option for us. Thank you.
  21. For those of us who aren't up for super spicy Mexican dishes, Yves has a nice variety to choose from. The spicy sauce is served on the side, for those who want it hotter. I like their beef burritos and ham and cheese enchaladas especially well and go there weekly. Choice of outdoor dining, complete with donkeys, or indoors with quietude and nice equipale chairs, Many offerings include the salad bar for the fearless ones. Some smart folks are bringing their own serving utensils. Me, I'm old and vulnerable, so I'm waiting on that until the plague is over!
  22. We drove by Yves at lunchtime and saw the crowded parking situation, so we went West past the large gas station and soon you will find a little strip mall on the lake side with El Ancla restaurant as the first one on the left. Parked easily and had an excellent lunch. It's been one of our "go to" favorites for a long time. Never crowded at lunch. Indoor and outdoor seating. Pleasant and helpful staff.
