  1. Has anyone found Monk Fruit sweetener?? I don't like the aftertaste of Stevia and read thaqt Monk Fruit is also natural but with less aftertaste. I can buy thru Mercadolibre but is very expensive, or order from US cheaply but have it take a long time to arrive. Any help appreciated.
  2. I have had the same experience with Wal-Mart chicken and ribs and eggs, all smelling spoiled when just purchased. Their produce is often nasty also. I still go there but only for a few things I cannot get elsewhere.
  3. Just sent you a message, SGMike. Thanks.
  4. Does anyone know of a Mexican company that tests for toxic mold and micotoxins in houses to isolate whether they are there and identify the type?? These businesses exist north of the border, and kits can be ordered to sample and send to labs, but I am wondering if there is anything like that here. Thanks for any help.
  5. No one mentioned the Pollito Deli 9 across the street from 7-11 (just south of the Pemex) in Chapala. We think their fried chicken is better than Tony's. Haven't tried Josy's though...and want to!! We do love fried chicken.
  6. We are big fans of great burgers AND Daniel Cordero. We'll be there. Thanks for posting.
  7. I hear you have live entertainment too. Can you tell us the lineup??
  8. Oh! Just answered my own question. I just found a July 2015 article in the GDL Reporter entitled "Phony fumigators on the prowl". I knew I'd read something!! Everyone, be wary of this.
  9. We have a friend who apparently opened his house recently to some people saying they were with some free government program to spray their house and yard. He seemed very impressed with how thorough they were, even asking if he had any more rooms or closets. I was alarmed and suspicious when I heard this because I seem to remember reading something somewhere about this being a scam. I found a post from 2011 like this, but cannot find anything more recent than that. Has anyone heard of this scam, or this "free" program which I am leary of?
  10. FYI, there is ALSO an authorized Emissions Testing Center in Los Cedros, about 5 minutes north of Ixtlahuacan, or 15-20 minutes north of Chapala ... much closer than Guadalajara. Cost is $250 pesos. We got a sticker there just today. It is called AutoServicio Martinez -Techmart. Tel (376) 762-1676. Good mechanics, large covered and well equipped shop, also with computer analysis.
  11. Another recommendation for Carsten Groppe. Very dependable and quality oriented.
  12. Can't believe no one has suggested Il Giardino, a little-known gem right on the main drag in Chapala, just north of La Leña (a block north of the fountain, across from the plaza). They are open till 11 p.m. Mon-Thurs, and till 12 p.m. / midnight Fri-Sat. Their exterior is weathered wood, so it doesn't look fancy. But inside it is terraced up,up and UP the mountainside, and VERY nice. The topmost terraced area (# 4 or 5) has lovely landscaping, awesome mature trees, and a great view. They have an super extensive, somewhat upscale menu (including NOB-style steaks) and they specialize in wood-oven pizzas. We think their food rivals almost any place at Lakeside. And we tend to eat late, so it suits us. Would recommend you check it out, but stick to one of the lower terraces if you drink a lot of beer or wine with dinner.
  13. Contact Alex Peterson, apet.rapidpack@yahoo.com or cell 333 577 7765 or 331 753 8151. He does this, speaks English and is reasonably priced.
  14. I read online that the factory lost its contract with Romertopf and is no longer open. If anyone has been recently, I would love to hear that this info is wrong and they are still open!

    Lobster

I was recently told that there is now a Red Lobster in GDL, near or in Andares mall.
  16. A family member has lost touch with an old friend from Lakeside named James, and she wants to re-connect and make sure all is ok with him. His father's name is Romeo Panlilio. We don't know if they moved away or what. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.
  17. We ate Black Forest baguettes there recently. They were a delightful surprise and worthy of a post here. They were served on at delicious bun made on-site. They had very generous portions of ham and fresh veggies. Overall quite good. They are across from Diane Pearl gallery in Ajijic. Worth trying!
  18. La del Molcajete is our favorite for molcajetes also. And check out their smoked marlin appetizer. Mmmm.
  19. One of their site's "Successful Projects" is Los Faros of Panama. According to Wikipedia, "The project was paralyzed by financial problems and has now been cancelled. It is extremely unlikely that this project will ever get constructed. Had it been constructed though, it was likely that the Central Tower would have been the tallest building on Latin America. It is currently undergoing debt liquidation." I can find no affiliation between Grupo Naimar (founded in 2008, they say) with any of the other "Success Projects" they claim on their site. Their website and their building in GDL are new, with no indication of a history except as claimed on their own web site. I will believe this whole LakeCity project when i see it!
  20. Our SKY satellite TV is not working, and I am wondering if this anyone else is having this problem. (Bill is paid.) If it is just us, we need phone SKY. Seems like this happened one other time and we unplugged the black box for a couple minutes to re-set it and that fixed it, but not this time.

    Rony Chocolat

Yeah, I am really just wanting the simple hard candy peppermints. Had asked my daughter to bring some whe she visited recently from the states, but she forgot. Oh well, maybe next year.

    Rony Chocolat

Rony, this is a bit off-topic but still candy related. My granddaughter LOVED some peppermint candies I brought from the states. They were VERY pepperminty in flavor. I keep buying the Mexican-made peppermints but they seem to have almost no peppermint flavor ... just sugar and a teeniest hint of mint. As a candy maker, do you know where I can find some really good peppermints??
  23. We have lived here for decades, and this year, 3 members of our family have had horrible allergies that led to bronchitis. This is a first for this time of year. We have talked about what might be causing the allergies, but have no answers as to what might be different than past years.
  24. I've not tried this guy in the Chapala plaza, but I recently had Gustavo at Tempus Watch Repair fix a Bulova that no one else had been able to fix. Gustavo has been around many years and is located at Miguel Martinez 544-B, next to the Chapala bus station. He even offers pickup and delivery. So he is another option, and specializes in antiques and fine watches.
