  1. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/state-dept-suspends-overseas-passport-visa-issuance-31729129 saw this and thought you folks needed to be aware of this. I'm not clear if it includes the consulate in GDL. I'll leave it to those affected to muddle it out.
  2. Those of you who visited and partied with us during our time in Ajijic probably met our friends, Ruth and Tom Shirley. I've no doubt that many readers of this webboard are familiar with Ruth and Tom, who were residents of Ajijic for 15+ years. With great sadness, I learned earlier today that Ruth passed away a few days ago following surgery to repair a recently broken hip. Ruth and Tom were our second ever home exchange hosts during our first ever visit to Ajijic. They became great friends (even after we totaled their car). Ruth was a truly gracious and lovely woman. Jay and I will miss her laughter, her dancing and her friendship. Link here to a couple of photos of Ruth and Tom.

  4. Note that AARP is not the only place to get Medicare supplements - and you SHOULD consider other alternatives. And the offerings under the Health Care Act ain't gonna be as "affordable" as everyone thinks. But that's off topic and political, so I should probably shut up about it.
  5. I am in my fifties and have a pre-existing condition, so I am declined by insurance companies for individual coverage. This was one of the MAJOR reasons we considered moving to Lakeside. Research indicated that I would not get insurance in Mexico, either. If I recall correctly, IMSS does not accept everyone anymore, or there was a three year waiting period for services. We did have the funds to self-insure, but that was not a risk I was willing to take. Accordingly, we did not move to Mexico and found other solutions to our specific needs. Floradude and PV Pat are right on target. It's a VERY important thing to consider.

  7. I'm a big fan of Edith and truly miss her haircuts when I'm back home in Arizona - both the quality and the very reasonable prices.

  12. Now I'm beginning to think about the fact that nobody asked for our tourist visa when we returned to AZ last October. Nor did we think to turn them in (we did get our car sticker removed.) and I've long since thrown away the paperwork Are we gonna have a hassle next time we enter Mexico by car? What about if we enter by plane?
  13. Heck yes, you'll be staying right around the corner. We'll not only meet, we'll party hardy.

You really will love the house and location. Only problem is, it will spoil you.

  14. Thank you so very much for your comments about Beth & Kevin's house. I've received the photos and absolutely agree - it's spectacular. I'm emailing with her now to see if we can work out the details on dates, etc.

And thank you for your kind comments to me. Hopefully, we can meet personally while we are visiting this year?
