  1. I've been away from Lakeside for two years, but I seem to remember people, though perhaps not gringos, actually in the water at the beach at the west side of the Chapala pier.  Does anyone swim there now?  Is it said to be safe or unsafe?  Has Dr. Strong had anything to say about it?

I saw lots of footprints in the beach sand this afternoon, but no one on the beach or in the water.

  2. I lived year-round in San Antonio Tlayacapan from 2003 to 2016.  I lost confidence in the first dentist I went to, and the second one was only at the Clinica Ajijic for a little while.  So, on the recommendation of a friend, I saw Dr. Olivera and was very satisfied with him and with the two assistants that he had trained.  I am, by the way, a dental wimp who cannot tolerate any dental pain.

  3. I also received good service at the shop south of the traffic light on the east side of San Jose in San Antonio (a convenient location for me, as I live in San Antonio)--until my car broke down on the way to the airport and had to be towed there. When I subsequently inquired about the status of my car, I found that its repair had been farmed out to a shop in Chapala unknown to me. When I finally got my car back and paid the very significant charge, it did not run properly. So I took it to Escalera, after which it did run properly, so the next time it needed service, I took it back to Escalera, where, as far as I know, the service was again good.

The lesson from these posts seems to be that although one may receive good service at a shop, there is no guarantee that the service received there will always be good.

  4. According to an article in today's Mexico News Daily (mexiconewsdaily.com), in 2001 arsenic and fluoride in the Lermer-Chapala aquifer were in "concentrations 10 times greater than what are deemed tolerable limits for human consumption," and now "concentrations [of pollutants] have doubled in some places, and arsenic--a carcinogen--has been recorded at 20 and up to 30 times over its acceptable levels." Does anyone have information about the levels of arsenic and other pollutants in tap water at Lakeside?
