  1. How old are you? Do you want a gringa or a Mexican? If you like dogs and gringas then volunter at an animal shelter, many single ladies can be found there. If you want a Mexican , take a stroll on the malecon or the tianguis. If you are younger / drinker and / or want someone active then try Adelitas when they have live music or Barco.
  2. Meters used to be 500 pesos, then 1000 now in 2015 are 1500, they are good if you dont use as much water as you are being charged for.
  3. RFC 200 or 300 pesos to get, pretty cheap with us, most notarios charging 300 to 500 pesos.
  4. RV you needed an RFC number, it was possible that the notary applied for one for you. We get people their CURP numbers and RFC numbers, we need some questions answered (home address, type of home, color, nearest landmark, phone #s and email and CURP #) and assuming the system is working we can do the RFC in about 10 to 15 minutes, sometimes less.
  5. No, no and no. A CURP is not a tax ID number, a tax ID number is an RFC number and they do not issue CURP numbers at city hall anymore (since 2 years ago), only through immigration. It is best to buy a property and have an RFC number, there were some new rules published (I do not know how they have been implemented as it is too early to tell) that state if you do not buy with an RFC than your basis is zero which means all your future sales price could be capital gains.
  6. There are few reputable import companies and most are doing frauds. We have bailed people out of jail and had their cars released from impound due to falsified documents. Many reputable people are getting caught up in the mess and it is a very shady business. A few people do it well but with all the changes much is still up in the air and things can change at any time, nobody is going to tell the reputable people that they will start to get fake documents or that at a later audit they will cancel all previous documents. People need to get real and not even think of nationalizing cars where the real street value is less than 3 to 4 times the cost to nationalize. Is it really worth risking jail and having your car impounded and thousands in legal fees to nationalize your 1989 Toyota that is worth $4,000US? Be very careful, use reputable people who give you their name and you know where they are, verify all documents.
  7. I would be weary of anybody asking for your money who does not give you their name nor have a local address and phone number. People are still losing money to car import people.
  8. My thoughts: Ameca route is bad at night (narcos on the loose) and when the pilgrims are dragging themselves on their knees and in the roadway. Ameca is good when it is high season like spring break or 3 day weekend, then Ameca is free and you save an hour or two versus the backup toll highways.
  9. Here in Mexico there is no licensing but there is a certification from the AMIB, Mexican Association of Financial Intermediaries, I have the certification in mortgage lending. To get it they check your credit rating, make you take classes and an exam, better than nothing.
  10. Here are the names of 4 people who are approved by the State Judicial Council for Chinese, I do not think I know them personally but not just anybody can be on the court list. 11. Hello all, here is part of my new guide, Mexican Law Enforcement Vehicles http://www.chapalalaw.com/Mxpolice.pdf
  12. Many stops are unconstitutional and the municpal adminsitrative laws give police the right to detain people for just about anything. Few people will go to the time and trouble to complain and it does keep the peace. I hope to have a new revamped driving guide ready for publication in the next 2 weeks.
  13. I am updating the traffic guide for 2014 in the new few weeks, stay tuned.
  14. The government announced that people who already have a CURP can apply for an RFC tax ID number online without having to make an appointment and bring documents to one of the SAT offices.
  15. There are many factors 3 groups, one who have a 3 or 4 and don't need financials, others who need financials and others who submitted to Guadalajara. Guadalajara was giving people a hard time at the beginning of the year and then later started approving people and doing it in a few weeks not months as Chapala got busy. It is a roll of the dice as Chapala is still behind and Guadalajara is lagging as well as placing some strange conditions.
  16. Here is the one for travel, it is important to present them with the travel letter and filled out form first and then your passport.
  17. Sample for Canje (Visa from consulate you swap for card in Mexico) The yellow is where they should fill in the box for Canje and give you 30 days
  18. Supposedly with transito changing its name to movilidad there will be some changes soon, once that happens I will amend accordingly.
  19. Just tried to register a cell number from here, got error using the 800 number and had to dial 33 9628-0000
  20. PROFECO, Mexico's consumer protection agency has set up a toll free number to register your phone number in the do not call registry so you will not receive solicitation calls, a business violating this registry can face stiff fines. For Guadalajara and Mexico City dial 9628-0000 and other areas (like Chapala) call 01-800-962-8000 from the phone number you want to register Options are in Spanish but once you call choose option 1 (hit the 1 key) to register and then hit option 4 to block all solicitation calls.
  21. Well did you ask the lady about the letter they are sending out? I spent a few hours at SAT in Guadalajara today to become a somewhat expert on the Retorno Seguro, we can get them in 24 hours, we will charge 1,000 pesos to do it. Gives you 5 business days to drive your car out of the country.
  22. One very good doctor in Guadalajara that specializes in knees (English skills unknown but translators are easier to find than good doctors) Doctor Jose Antonio Gonzalez Alvarez 33 3630 3103 Dr. Santiago Hernandez might also have a suggestion for a knee specialist
