Many thanks to all of you for helping me with this problem. I now understand how the wallet system works. Tomorrow I'll go to the bank and tell them about the disappearing CVV.

You need to call the Preferred Customer number in Mexico City.  They can help you.  If you go to the branch they will probably put you on the phone with them.

  2. You are using the right substitution    Possibly the you are dialing a wrong number??

To dial a United States 800 number FROM Mexico, replace the 800 prefix with the prefix shown below:

    • 800 numbers: Dial 001-880 -then the number

    • 866 numbers: Dial 001-883 -then the number

    • 877 numbers: Dial 001-882 -then the number

    • 888 numbers: Dial 001-881 -then the number.

  3. So are the previous 2 posts saying that Pedro is lying???

I too have experienced personal service in a Mexican private hospital so ......

Now am I insulting someone by having different experiences than they did?

And that I too say that their statement is wrong and does not apply to all hospitals based on my personal experience make me insulting?

Or is it impossible that nursing services in private hospitals could be different depending on the hospital ??

  4. A foreign citizen with a visa, either temporal or permanente, has been allowed to enter Mexico from day one of the land crossing restrictions. Also a foreign citizen with a "green card" has been able to enter the USA from day one.

The restrictions are for "non essential travel"   You are also allowed to cross for work. medical appointments. etc.

  5. Agree with mudgirl except for one thing.

Every expert says to never, never, never pay for things with a debit card. Your whole account can be drained by fraud and the bank will take a long time to verify your claim... in the meantime you are out all the money because it was a basically a "cash" transaction. If the bank verifies your claim then they replace the money in your account.

Use a credit card.     If fraud occurs the bank freezes the contested charge(s). The merchant who accepted the card receives no money. After the bank investigation if your claim is valid they just eliminate the contested charge(s)

It all depends on where you call from and to where. If from Mexico to Mexico, that is a number like 52-800. This is a toll-free number, which is used mainly in business. I know, because the firm where I work bought such numbers from Hottelecom. https://hottelecom.biz/toll-free-number-of-mexico.html

Mexico to Mexico is only 800   52 is the country code for Mexico and would only be used if calling Mexico from a different country.

The OP was inquiring about USA "toll free" numbers dialing from Mexico

  7. Lifestyles... Just a few uses that work for me.....

My BBVA card allowed me to buy my major appliances with 12-18 months to pay interest free.  Meanwhile I was earning interest on my money.

I bought a Domino's pizza and got a discount by paying with my card because of a promotion a few days ago.  Right now there are other promotions available.

My BBVA card offers a virtual card for on-line purchases that is only good for a few minutes to protect from on-line fraud.

My account allows me to send money to someone who can withdraw it from a BBVA ATM with a special code.

  8. The basic account allows 4 no charge withdrawals per month. After that there is a charge for each withdrawal, starting at $25 and later $50. (unless you want to go to a branch and wait to visit the cashier to get money)

I guess if you can't afford to keep $4000 pesos in an account (like many poor Mexicans) it is an option put to me it would seem to be  like stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime.

That is what I've been told some time ago, however I've heard that it has been upped to $8000. I haven't had any luck finding this portion of the website, could you please send a link to it? Thank you.

    https://www.bbva.mx/personas/servicios-digitales/banca-por-internet.html

Click on menu in the upper right corner   Then under products  cuenta de debito then click on the type of debit you have,. ( most people have libraton premium)

Another issue is speed up.  For example standard for most Telmex is 10 down and .5 going up.  So if you are working and moving large files up you need to take consideration of up speeds.  Another example is my ILOX which has 300 down but 60 up.  Cable modems (wiz) tend to have higher up speeds compared to DSL (telmex)when both have 10 down.

My Telmex is usually about 17-19 down and 4-5 up. I am on copper not fiber optic.  There is no "standard" for most Telmex.

  11. Advice for all.  Anyone with symptoms can make an appointment for the free University UDG drive thru testing.   33 3823 3220  Or you can go to one of many labs that are now offering test for a fee.

My nephew had mild symptoms, called the hotline and was able to drive thru that afternoon. He was told to self quarantine until he got his results.  3 days later he received a positive diagnosis. Most of his symptoms had abated but he followed instructions and self quarantined for 12 days more. Full recovery and none of his family infected.

  12. As best as I can find don't expect to see any rise in the lake until next year.  The only dam that seems to be discharging now is Tepuxtepec on the Mexico- Michoacan border.

All the agricultural dams  to the east of us are far below for lack of rain. None of those send water to the Lerma anyway.  What is indicated by them being low is that the rainfall  east of us that would normally flow to the Rio Lerma has been poor this season.

In 2018 the majority of those dams were at high levels indicating that the rain in the Rio Lerma watershed would have been high. Thus Chapala was at the high level in that year.

You can see that in the last years Chapala has only increased in level after October  in 2018

  13. Most likely land crossing versus air entries prohibitions are based on numbers.

One month Jan 2020 land crossings

Laredo   buses 3149,  pedestrians 309,041   passengers in personal vehicles 897,997

El Paso  buses  1857, pedestrians  552,882  passengers in personal vehicles 1,593,590

Calexico buses  85,   pedestrians    43,565  passengers in personal vehicles   428,522

That is not all the border crossings.

There is absolutely no confusion. A foreign plated vehicle that has not been legalized at the border by a licensed broker is illegal.

The scam here has been "we can get you legal plates from CDMX (Mexico City) for a lot less money & you don't need to go to the border and your car will be legal.IT IS NOT. All insurance policies say your car must be legal .. so the insurance will be invalid.

All the knowledgeable posters on this thread have agreed to that point.  Local atty Spencer  and Sonia from San Miguel de Allende who  is involved in these things have both said the same.

But there is a huge loophole on Mexican insurance that I am not willing to share. Verified by a major insurance broker. Keep banging head against the stone, eventually you will go to heaven as a reward for your good deeds and life as a non sinner.

Only question is has it been verified by an attorney familiar with these matters?   Brokers are independent agents. Not legal authorities.

And you are forgetting that the vehicle will be confiscated, you will have fines to pay.  As to immigration status being revoked I have seen no information saying yes or no, but I wouldn't want to chance it.

Maybe your broker carries errors and omissions insurance that will cover them if you need to sue to recover your loses.

I don't think very many people are willing to risk all for a couple of thousand dollars.

I was not referring to your post...just the confusion that has erupted regarding  "CDMC plated vehicles", whether these are legal or not and the insurance implications relating to this.
